lol. heard it. Some of Wilners callers indicate such a frightening lack of baseball knowledge for a fan base. They go on endlessly about meaningless intangibles and bunting.

Barker makes me appreciate Wilner more. Never thought I would say that!

That is pretty much every casual fan. Most don't really understand the sports they watch.

I have watched this thread throughout the year, and never weighed in because I had nothing nice to say. That being said, I think I have a solution... I should be manager of the Blue Jays. It's going to be increasingly tougher to get tickets, and this way I would have a good seat to every game for the rest of the year.

I would let my two and half year old son manage Junior Jays days, and we could really see how little the manager affects the outcome of games. The first Saturday that Toopy and Binou were playing the left side of the infield, instead of Tulo and JD may cause the adults at RC to revolt.

This game was over if Gibby just went with Sanchez at the beginning of the 8th, Price had already thrown 100 pitches - Gibbons is terrible

Honestly who cares at this point. Gibby is this teams manager, and these moves are now just accepted.

I would have gone with Lowe over Sanchez.

Lmao yea it gibbons fault Sanchez left a fastball.over the middle of the plate.

You must admit though, with the kind of high contact pitcher Sanchez is, that was not the right time for him. Just saying, Lowe would have been a better choice.

Not horrible though,

Hey, did you guys hear that no one except Sanchez and Osuna are allowed to pitch the 8th and 9th innings? 3rd game in 4 days? Who cares. It's the 8th. Gotta go with Sanchez. No one else.

2 days in first place till gibby tried to manage and got blasted

When the Jays start winning blowouts again, the blowhards in this thread will come in with their sarcasm and talk up Gibbons, while the team's record in close games (when managing actually helps determine the outcome of a game) continues to plummet.

That's correct.

No, it's not. Sanchez is coming off an injury and is still in his first month of full-time relieving since coming off the DL, and Osuna is 20 with like a 40 IP career high prior to this season. You actually have good relievers in the pen now aside from those two. Use them if those two have pitched in too many games recently.

If Sanchez starts the inning they'd never have gotten 3 runs

I think I would've gone with Hawkins, but...I agree whichever reliever he wanted to use, he should have started the innng.

The win streak was fun, but tonight proves that you can stack this roster with any amount of talent and this franchise is still going nowhere as long as Gibbons is manager. I doubt we'll be seeing first place again this year, and the thought of Gibbons "managing" the wildcard game is horrifying. The worst part is that simply making the playoffs will be enough to keep his job intact.

Did you even post at all during the win streak?

Just my opinion, not trying to flame anyone, but there's no way in hell price should've started that inning period. I told my wife when I saw him come out, this guy is tired and he's going to get hit.

I'm just lost as to how a fan can see it coming as plain as day, but the organization the allows this guy to be our manager can't see it and nor can the manager in turn see it himself. Gibbons is not a big league manager on any level. His decision making is beyond poor.

When Sanchez was brought out for the ninth against the Astros, I said out loud to my wife, "look at this kid, he's exhausted and if they don't watch it, they're going to hurt him." It was plain as day that he was fatigued, you could see it on his face and with his body language. Yet Gibbons ran him out there for what? A complete game? The chance of a complete game shutout? And look what happened...what was likely to happen when you do that to a pitcher NEEDLESSLY. The same thing tonight, Price LABORED through his start and managed to get you seven scoreless. So obvious his night was over, yet not to the guy entrusted to manage our major league team. I could see it as plain as day his night was done and what was likely to happen? Happened.

I'm not jumping on this guy because of tonight. It's an accumulation of poor decisions resulting in losses for our baseball team. Tonight was just simply another notch in the belt and another loss that should never have happened.

Price struggled the whole game. He shouldn't have pitched the 8th. We also had a rested BP.

Sanchez, Lowe, Hawkins were all good bets to pitch the 8th.

You are a huge f***ing idiot. I won't try to change you but I hope, at the very least, that you are aware of this fact.

Lowe is good. Cecil is good. Hendriks is good. Hawkins is solid.

He doesn't have to keep the 8th and 9th reserved for 2 guys only.

You think taking Price...the guy you traded your farm for in a critical game after 99 pitches when he hasn't given up a run is an easy decision? I don't care what you said to your wife. I'm sure 3 or 4 days ago you said they shouldn't be doing this and then it worked out and you said...man gibby got lucky. These decisions of could do this, could do that, should have pulled him, should have left him in....they are very easy to know the answer to after you've seen the result.

The Jays have given away a lot of games this year. This wasn't one of them. They Yankees won this game. Shame on you guys blaming the Jays for giving it away and not acknowledging the opponent who clearly won this one.

Then explain why Girardi does the same with Betances/Miller?

I'm fine with Price starting the 8th. I'm not fine with Sanchez over Lowe in a situation where you need K's and you bring in a contact guy over a guy with 13+ K/9 strikeout machine numbers.

Every loss this year was won by the opponent.

the ones where routine balls went through reyes' legs were given to the opposition by Reyes. I guess you either couldn't pick up on the inference of deservedly won by the opponents.

Price was tired period and he labored through some tough jams during this game. There's no way Price should've come out to pitch the 8th inning in this game, it makes no sense period. The yanks won this game due to poor decision making by our manager. We had four or five guys who were a better choice to start that inning over Price. He had done his job and his night was over. Our pen is relatively well rested and there's ZER reason to bring in Price to start that inning

You're not honestly comparing Sanchez and Osuna to those guys are you? There's a reason Girardi does this and their numbers speak for themselves.

Posted
Mistake #1 (this one is debatable): Price does not start the 8th. Bring in Sanchez with no runners on, and he shuts the door. But fine, he comes out, at least take him out when the first guy gets on.

Mistake #2: Sanchez coming out with runners on second and third is moronic. He's a pitch to contact pitcher, meaning your conceding 1 run AT LEAST. In a 2-run ball game the last thing you want is to concede a run. Mark Lowe is the right call there.

Mistake #3 (not game related/somewhat game related): What are they waiting for to go back to a 4 man bench? You don't need an 8 man Pen now that the starting pitching is stabilized and our starters are going deep for the most part. Bring up Pompey and have another right handed hitter on the bench and a 4th outfielder. If this was the case, you're not handcuffed by having to bat Revere in a tough lefty on lefty matchup because you now have a defensive replacement should the game go to extras.

Like I said...don't beat yourself. Of course we're not going to win every game from here on out..but don't lose because you're beating yourself.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I just don't see ANY sense in bringing Price back out there when you have Cecil, Hawkins, Hendriks, Lowe and Sanchez out there. I list Sanchez last because in that situation with runners on 2-2 and one out, he's the last guy I bring in. You're going to bring him in, bring him in to start the inning, after that, do what makes sense baseball wise. And to me, baseball wise, bringing in Price was a bad baseball decision. He pitched six out of seven stressful innings where he worked his way out of jams. No sense whatsoever bringing that guy in to throw even one more pitch. On top of everything else, you risk hurting your teams most valuable pitching asset.

However, Girardi needs to watch Betances' innings.. he's only 16 appearances away from a career high in appearances. Ditto for Justin Wilson, and Andrew Miller did get injured earlier this season. Frequently, GIrardi goes to Betances for more than 1 inning.. this cannot be sustained forever. Sooner or later, he will break down.. unfortunately, the Yanks bullpen is a mixed bag after Betances and Miller.

There numbers are very similar and if you lose at least you lose with your best guys
