Effit Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 People are incredibly predictable, are you kidding me? I knew you were going to say that.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Stats Stats are we talking Stats!!! Nice LOL but regardless of all the stats in the world it's probably still best we just play the f***ing Games! Paper champions seldomly Win!!! Enjoy Go Jays Go!!! pretty sure stats are quite relevant to this thread...

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Eno Sarris on Estrada QO: "I say yes. I like his skillset. If I'm Toronto, getting him back for one year is fine." It is stupid to not sign a QO. He's not going to get less than what he will get with a QO, which would be around <$15m. I'm sure he will get a 3-4 year contract for $12m each at least
NotThatGuy Verified Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Yup. I think the responses to my post prove my point. I say projections can't be trusted, and within 10 minutes I have 3-4 posters implying I am stupid. I won't continue to argue this. It's a losing battle, not worth fighting. And what you'll see, is that they'll all say "of course they're not perfect, you dumb-dumb, no one ever said they were" ... and then the next time you disagree about a particular player's expected performance, they'll whip out their 1-inch projection, and call you a dumb-dumb for not believing it, and for believing in your own assessment. It's kinda like people sitting around guessing that 2+2=999, and then someone says 2+2 usually equals, on average, 998 and ... boom ... that guy is smarter! Let's listen to him! He was closest! No, he's still a big stupidhead ... let's not listen to him.

If there's anything Ruben Amaro has taught us, it's that ignoring stats and projections while valuing scouting and the eye test lead to winning baseball.

See? "Projections totally aren't perfect, but if you rely on anything else to supplement, or even replace it, in part of in whole, or even mention those things, you are Ruben Amaro." Ruben Amaro being to baseball discussion and brains as Hitler is to political discussions and evilness.

I feel like Amaro is the Hitler of GMs. You mention him and everyone is in agreement that he's just horrible.

They also have much better analytic teams than people give them credit for. Amaro is one of the exceptions, not the rule.

I really wish you would add something relevant to baseball discussion other than "omg just let everyone play ball and hope it works out better than last year.... every player will either be as good as the were last year better or worse, why bother trying to predict it"

A lot easier to stand on the sidelines and make fun of everyone else.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Plot twist Moogy is Gregg Zaun Not possible. I agreed wth Zaun once.

Not only does this have nothing to do with what I'm saying now, it is pretty much the opposite of how I have acted in the past.

King Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Can we get him to do the play by play. That was awesome. Towards the end of the regular season I was watching the game on TVA Sports (French). The guy who screams "RUSSELL RUSSELL RUSSELL" in that commercial was doing the commentating. Much better than Buck despite me having no idea what the f*** he was saying.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Estrada trade was horrible Spanky said so Let's get back hall of famer Adam Lind
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Estrada trade was horrible Spanky said so Let's get back hall of famer Adam Lind Lind would look pretty great in the 5/6 spot in out lineup.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 What position would he play though? Same position he always has DH + Clubhouse Cancer + GIDP whenever it matters
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Much better than Buck despite me having no idea what the f*** he was saying. It really helps if you don't.
