Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Some nice words from Danny V.. I know some people are saying he was a clubhouse cancer, but he never came across that way to me. “Everybody knows I loved it here. I had great relationships with our front office, our coaches, every player in the clubhouse,” Valencia said. “The city was great to me and the fans were awesome. I have nothing but great memories. I can’t say anything bad about it here. I really loved it.” http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/brett-lawrie-returns-to-toronto-with-dose-of-perspective/ he's a journeyman who knows not to bite the hand that feeds him
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 he's a journeyman who knows not to bite the hand that feeds him Or maybe actually a nice guy? Rare thing these days I know, with everyone so hell bent on being the biggest ******* they can be, but still possible. Not buying the bad attitude thing though.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Wait what? Who said he was clubhouse cancer? Someone that posts here, can't remember their name. Said several times they 'heard' it, no idea who they heard it from though.

Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Lol source being a bjmb poster. That's why I don't buy it, although some probably do. Obviously it's circulating somewhere but it's ******** to me. Cola is the one who always looks pissed/depressed to me, but that's not enough to just assume he's a cancer. Danny V always looked like he was having fun.

With Revere's struggles it would have been nice to have Danny V on the team right now. I actually, and no I am not kidding, met one of Danny V's high school baseball coaches on a vacation with my family in Hawaii. He talked to me because I had my Dickey shirt on (hee hee). Anyway, we started talking about Valencia and this retired coach said that Danny was the nicest kid ever, and that his son and Danny are still good friends. So, that not may be great insider information, but I would tend to be on the team Valencia for clubhouse positives.

Weird and cheap of Wilner to imply that. Role players get moved all the time and it seems to me that if the Jays didn't like him, he would have been moved in the off-season as part of the revamping of the roster. The team obviously felt comfortable keeping him around for another season. Seems like Wilner is grasping at straws here.
candymartinez Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Wilner is a clown no doubt, but I can't think of a good reason he had to go. When I heard they dropped him I just assumed to banged someone's wife or something.

Jonzo Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Wilner knows very little about Baseball and significantly less on how a clubhouse works. His job is talk to fans on the radio and hes not even good at that because hes not a people person. To be fair, I wouldn't say Wilner knows "very little" about Baseball. I'm not denying he's a cheerleader, but he does know Baseball. And it pains me to say, as I highly dislike the douche. Just as much as he looks through rose coloured glasses, he also does shut down some stupid fans sometimes.

Of course he did. He's a company shill, know it all, condescending fat ass fanboy. What else would you expect him to say?

I was at last nights game...HUGE crowd for a Tuesday night. 15,000 more than a normal Tuesday. (Usually would be under 25,000 midweek for a team like Oakland, there were 39,000+) If this keeps happening, and we average more than 40,000 per game from here on out, might we see a significant payroll bump, allowing us to resign Price?

I agree with this. 90% of fans that call into the show "know very little about baseball" and I think Wilner does a great job of setting them straight for the most part. I actually enjoy how condescending he is because stupid people need to be shamed...

Resigning Price is a terrible use of money
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 How AA acquired Donaldson: http://m.torontosun.com/2015/08/11/how-the-blue-jays-finally-convinced-the-athletics-to-trade-josh-donaldson There are new details here, like how he wanted to trade away Happ first and then slot Graveman in Happ's spot.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 stupid people need to be shamed... I absolutely loathe this mentality. Everyone is stupid some of the time.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Resigning Price is a terrible use of money Which baseball team do you own? Signing Price would be an awesome use of money if it fits the budget, which is unknown.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Which baseball team do you own? Signing Price would be an awesome use of money if it fits the budget, which is unknown. As I mentioned elsewhere Price is someone that does not age well. This year he's a two pitch pitcher and you'd figure he has maybe 2-3 more years before he regresses and loses a lot of velocity on his FB, which is where he gets most of his value from. Sabathia and Price have a lot of similarities and look at where Sabathia is now. At age 32 he bombed and that was when his average FB dropped from 93-94 to 91. Now he's below 90 for the past two years. Can you imagine a David Price with a 90 mph fastball being effective? I don't.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Resigning Price is a terrible use of money The team needs an ace. resigning Price may not provide surplus value over the contract but it will add 3-4 wins (not theoretical wins, actual wins) over the course of a season. That takes the Jays from an 87 win team to a +90 win team which would be a great use of money.

You don't resign Price to help this team in +5yrs, you sign him to help win games now. If the Jays can put together a string of playoff appearances over the initial 3-4yrs of Price's deal the contract will pay for itself and you deal with the declining performance when it happens.
