Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 It's taken a .395 BABIP to get Colabello to 0.1 WAR across 70 games. That's coming from a 1B-only, and a 1B-only with atrocious 1B defence. That move was indefensible. So Gibbons talks about the importance of defense and how Smoak will get more PT because of it, then sits him vs. a righty first game after a day off. What a dumb s***.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 This is all wrong. If the medical staff says Edwin needs one week, they're not going to say OK give him 1-2 days. Not really.... If it is a bone bruise or a sprain it all depends on the swelling and pain If Edwin says he can swing pain free then who is Gibby most likely to listen too..... Training staff that says he could be a week recovering or EE saying he has no pain.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Sit him out the entire series and get him prepped for NY Yes. He needs to be ready for thw NY series.

Almost every competent training staff can identify injuries and advise the coaching staff to ignore the players

They manage the pain and the player plays. Nothing wrong with that.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Harrison Perry Danny Valencia was DFA'd on August 1. Since then, Aaron Loup (has options) has thrown one pitch in a cluttered 8-man bullpen. #BlueJays This kills me.....Danny V was too good to let go.....First team grabbed him

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 WHY IS COLABELLO STILL HITTING AHEAD OF MARTIN? Ugh. That's really starting to piss me off.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Says the same thing every series, every game. I've never seen anyone so uptight in my life. I would be shocked if he doesn't face a future of ulcers and high blood pressure.

We keep complaining about it but it keeps working out. I'm fine with it at this point. Its only 1 spot lower in the lineup

To be fair, Martin and Smoak have been cold lately. Bello was stone cold in July, but has shown some signs of life in August (11 at bats, very SSS). I'd really like to see Smoak get hot here to end the year.

Its only 1 spot lower in the lineup Lineup optimization really doesn't make much difference, we're talking about maybe a couple runs over the course of the season. For me, it's just frustrating that Gibbons doesn't realize that Colabello is fool's gold and has been RTTMing for awhile now. I would rather bat Martin leadoff and Tulo 4th. Of course, the reasoning for not batting Martin leadoff is probably as simple as Gibby wanting to give him some time to take his catching equipment off after the Top of the 1st, or something like that which only matters in the 1st inning.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Who was originally slated to pitch Sunday? Hutch? Yup..... I would assume this is why... Dickey gets his 4 days of rest tomorrow since we had an off day and then he can go on sunday with 3 days rest.... I hope this is the case anyway.

It is quite funny (and good!) that hitting Colabello 4th or 5th has continued to work out for them. Battle of the 25th roster spot tonight, Colabello and Valencia hitting cleanup!
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Over a full season batting 4th vs 5th is a difference of ~25PA, 4th vs 6th is a difference of ~35PA's and 1st vs 6th is a difference of ~90PA's.

No Dickey effect though It could still benefit the Jays if it helps the next team the Yankees face.
Leonard15 Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Hi guys I heard them advertise for available suites for the weekend series against the Yankees as seats are sold out at face value so I was wondering if the people in the suits count towards paid attendance or not. What is actual capacity at the Dome these days as I remember it used to be 50,000 in the glory days.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 They're selling "party suites" for the Yankees and Tigers series. Call their line for more info, but I don't think they count towards "sold out" seats.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Yes a suite counts towards attendance.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Interest in baseball and sports in general seems to be declining amongst the young in the USA. In another 30 - 40 years I wonder if MLB attendance will have plummeted. (source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/baseballs-trouble-with-the-youth-curve--and-what-that-means-for-the-game/2015/04/05/2da36dca-d7e8-11e4-8103-fa84725dbf9d_story.html ) According to Nielsen ratings, 50 percent of baseball viewers are 55 or older, up from 41 percent 10 years ago. ESPN, which airs baseball, football and basketball games, says its data show the average age of baseball viewers rising well above that of other sports: 53 for baseball, 47 for the NFL (also rising fast) and 37 for the NBA, which has kept its audience age flat. Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Some nice words from Danny V.. I know some people are saying he was a clubhouse cancer, but he never came across that way to me. “Everybody knows I loved it here. I had great relationships with our front office, our coaches, every player in the clubhouse,” Valencia said. “The city was great to me and the fans were awesome. I have nothing but great memories. I can’t say anything bad about it here. I really loved it.” http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/brett-lawrie-returns-to-toronto-with-dose-of-perspective/
