Why would we use multiple years of data? The point you're disputing is that he's "one of the worst in the league." Nobody said he's one of the worst in history or anything.

Here are the worst framers in the league this year, on a per-game basis:

The third-lowest and the guys below him have much smaller samples. There are 41 catchers in this list. 39th out of 41 is without a doubt properly characterized as "one of the worst."

What the hell happened to Kratz?

Even for pitch framing 106 might be a small sample. Also, replacement level is probably higher now with better catchers in the league.

You of all people know that projections are based off multiple years of data (usually 3-5). More data is better, especially in catcher framing.

12 games caught in 2015 is pretty much a completely meaningless sample size. We're talking about -9 strikes here.

Using 3 games of catcher framing data as statistically valid data is a whole new level of stupid.

Christ I'm just joking around man. Needless to say, small sample size or not, it's pretty pathetic to see a 3rd baseman ranked above you. Perhaps he could lay off the burrito's, watch some video and actually work hard for a change. Stop defending this loser.

Framing is a per-pitch thing and stabilizes very quickly. It's like how you don't need multiple seasons to tell if a guy walks a lot. 12 games caught is not a meaningless sample size.

Your data contains catchers who are not "in the league."

And yet if you were to use Navarro's 2011-2013 data, Navarro would be a slightly above average framer.

By StatCorner, he would not be and that isn't a relevant point anyway. The average has changed and Navarro probably hasn't. There are dozens of catchers who debuted in 2014-15 and are way better than 2011-2013 Navarro. The best framers these days didn't play much/at all in 2011-2013.

You're theory about the landscape of catcher framing being improved across the board is an interesting one, but rather easy to verify:

Average Extra Strikes per 100 Framing Chances, totals (includes all player data):

2013: 0.364

2014: 0.446

2015: 0.265 <--- lowest

If I expanded this further back I'm sure you'd see an trend upwards, but in 2015 framing ability overall is down significantly over the last 2 years.

Alex will trade EE for Hamels in a three way deal. Book it.

I would fully support this. I have loved watching E5 over the years, but he's a logical guy to move now.

I agree. It'd be hard, but for with Hamels for 2.5 years I'd be excited. And Stroman comes back next year. Sign one FA SP and we're good.

A huge part of it is which pitcher a catcher is catching. the difference in catching sanchez over buehrle could be 5-10 strikes per start if not more.

This is reflected in BaseballProspectus' numbers

Lol. I would follow another team

The media is just doing their job to garner the hits/attention. I wouldn't pay much mind to it unless it really happens. Besides think it was being discussed on baseball central with Ennis and Barker. Probably the two dumbest people I have ever herd that are paid to talk about baseball.

Barker is awful. I just found out he's married to Hazel Mae.

If it's a 3 way trade he could end up in a pretty good situation.

He will look awesome in the Cards uniform.

Who are these hacks Sportsnet is hiring?

Saying today they would deal Norris, Hoffman and a B prospect for Cueto.

Saying they'd deal Stroman for Cueto.

This team isnt Cueto away from being dominant. You'd have Cueto and Buerhle and a bunch of potential trash.

This team is prolly a Cueto, #3/4 and strong BP arm away from actually being able to win a 3 out of 5 playoff series.

They are just doing their job. I mean think about it, what gets more people talking. Prospects they've never herd about or briefly hear about vs a pitcher who is a large deadline actualization to try and create more excitement for the team?

I like where this is going Ang - could make a lot of sense too as the Cards need a bat at 1st. I hope you're the MLB trade whisperer.

Unfortunately, this is true. The vast majority of the public is stupid and thus doesn't realise the SN guys are dum dums. The people who really follow baseball simply can't listen to pre-game shows or whatever these days because it makes you want to puke.

Lance Lynn would look good in a Jays uni too.. Edwin + could make some sense for both teams.

Didn't he have arm troubles recently?

Yes forearm strain, no thanks.

Just checked, 15 day DL in June. Has 3 starts since he's been back; 19IP, 2R, 1 ER, 20 SO, 8 BB, 0.47 ERA, 2.24 FIP.

Seems fine to me.
