Actually - the thought is Shark isn't going to be enough to make this team a playoff team (let alone a WS contender) and thus why deal a young pitcher for a 2 month rental (even if it's Sanchez). Shark is NOT a #1. He's better than what we have, but he's not a difference maker that Cueto/Hamels are.

I think most people would agree on that. If we are going to deal a prospect we believe has high upside, it better warrant the return ie. a Cueto or Hamels (who is signed beyond this year). What do people think on Latos, if he cost just a couple B level prospects? There are just too many good FA pitchers next year that will cost 0 prospects to give up the farm this year on a HOPE that we have a shot. There are a lot of teams that are 2 star players away from being very competitive, that's the case every year. Some teams need 2 big bats because they have the pitching, the Jays need 2 big arms, it's no different.

I know baseball is a second-guesser's delight, but man, the Jays had this guy, and, if I recall right, a lot of industry people expected them to pick Chris Sale in the 2010 draft. They went with Deck McGuire instead. It's painful to think about, but in a slightly alternate universe, the rotation right now could have Stroman (barring his freak injury), Sale, and Syndegaard in it.

But going by this logic, you wouldn't want to acquire any pitcher. Lots of pitchers go NL to AL and there's hardly a change.

Yes. An example being... Jeff Samardzja

Can we target Syndergaard? How much would he cost? Dickey?

Sigh...

Thanks for this.

Some people on this board need to get over Noah Syndergaard. He's not gay, you guys never had a chance anyways.

Too bad, he almost make me want to "switch teams".

Unless we can get someone controllable for a few years, we should try to trade for Latos and Iwakuma. Both should be decent rotation upgrades, and I don't think either would cost one of our top prospects. Sanchez moves to the pen and solidifies that (and the pen is really starting to get it together anyway).

What would it take to land Carlos Gonzalez? The window of buying low on him might be closing. Perfect LH bat the Jays could use.

Probably just $$. He's awful.

Rockies ownership won't trade Tulo, so don't expect them to move Gonzalez either. Plus, we can't take his $37M remaining without the Rox eating tons of money.

If they take some of his salary he'd be the perfect buy low IMO. Of course SP is #1 priority but adding a LH bat of Gonzalez's caliber and potential to the lineup would make the offense even more fun to watch.

Is it worth the risk though? What if he keeps up his s***** performance like these last 2 seasons?

Not worth the risk IMO

CarGo isn't even good anymore. Just expensive as f***. Maybe if we got Jon Gray, too. But he might not even be good either. Fawwwwwwwwwwwwk the Rockies suck.

I think you'd agree the Jays are in a position where they need to take some risks for the short term. Gonzalez isn't a huge risk in the sense that he wouldn't gut the farm, they'd just have to work out the financial details and maybe add in someone like Boyd. His days of being an all star or fringe MVP candidate are likely over but the guy is still only 29, the upside is still there for a huge second half.

You mean that buy low window of the last 149 games where he's been awful? (wRC+ of 85, WAR of 0.0)

He is what you'd get if you threw Jose Reyes into the outfield.

Jesus christ... Just checked his stats. What the f*** happened to him?

Last year was a ton of injuries. This year, he's been heating up quite a bit as the season has been progressing. His wRC+ by month this year: 45, 73, 116, 161. His numbers on the year would actually be fine (although still not quite Cargo like) if he wasn't inexplicably putting up a -9 wRC+ vs lefties.

lol troll comment. Guy gets injured last year and had a poor start this year and suddenly he's "not good anymore" despite being a star player for multiple seasons.

Could probably get both for Boyd and Castro and some B specs.

I'd give up something stupid for Tulo.

He's projected for a 112 wRC+ while contributing no defense from a corner outfield spot getting paid $40 million for the next few years.

He's Melky Cabrera, lol. He's had 2 good seasons mixed with some average ones, has posted 500 PA of 85 wRC+ baseball and is projected for 2.5 fWAR/150 on a massive contract which is Jose Reyes to a tee

Mets and Cards could probably beat any package unless Rockies really like some package we could offer.

Silvergun got so mad at me when I first threw out that comp.

Jays would be right up there. They'd want young pitching and a couple good position prospects. Hoffman + Sanchez/Norris + Pompey + Urena would be a very solid offer.
