DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Why do people say Navarro is trash? That s*** gets old and it's just plain wrong. Navarro provided 4 WAR the last 2 seasons, and that is only 1.5 seasons. He's a pretty solid all around catcher with some deficiencies, obviously. He doesn't strike out much and has had a good bat (for a catcher) the last 3 seasons. I think he works well with the pitchers and is probably a good game caller. Also, I've seen much worse blocking from Martin (even w/o the KB). Trash is a little strong but he's a borderline starter and just isn't very good, there are typically 2 or 3 veteran catchers similar to Dioner available every off-season. No one is going to give up premium assets for a guy like that.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Hence the money, please try to keep up to speed! Lol It's still a terrible contract, the Dodgers don't need the money and they would get far more for Greinke if they were to move him. It would be a brutal move for them, the type of deal that gets a GM fired, just move on.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 The dodgers front office is so smart they have been taking free assets from the Jays all season
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 The dodgers front office is so smart they have been taking free assets from the Jays all season Yet the Dodgers front office sends out Frias (now on the DL) and Bolsinger every 4th and 5th day because of the Dodgers lack of depth.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Yet the Dodgers front office sends out Frias (now on the DL) and Bolsinger every 4th and 5th day because of the Dodgers lack of depth. Bolsinger is decent, just has trouble working deep into games. Much better than some of the garbage the Jays have been throwing out there.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Yet the Dodgers front office sends out Frias (now on the DL) and Bolsinger every 4th and 5th day because of the Dodgers lack of depth. Um no, they send out Bolsinger because he's a really good starting pitcher...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 speaking of the Dodgers - Alex Guerrero has really cooled off and how on earth is Kershaw not already in the AS game? dum
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Maybe a guy like Niese from the NYM. 0% Why do people say Navarro is trash? That s*** gets old and it's just plain wrong. LTR Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 0% Framing brings him down quite a bit He's a below average framer (hence why I said some deficiencies), he also has a below average throwing arm (seemingly).
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 He's a below average framer (hence why I said some deficiencies), he also has a below average throwing arm (seemingly). He's not just below average though, the data suggests he's one of the worst in the league I don't think we'll trade him so I've just kind of accepted his place on the team, just wish he wouldn't play over Smoak
LTR Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 He's not just below average though, the data suggests he's one of the worst in the league Not really. I've already covered this. Navarro is there #97. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/4504-Catcher-framing-redux?highlight=redux

CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 1m1 minute ago #Yankees #Orioles #Bluejays had scouts in to watch Cueto last night #Reds More likely they were there hopeful of a Chapman appearance. The bullpen session they scouted a few years ago when they decided not to sign him is probably out of date according to their computer system. Probably need to a see an inning or two live before making any trade offers.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 1m1 minute ago #Yankees #Orioles #Bluejays had scouts in to watch Cueto last night #Reds Watching Joey Votto of course. I've always laughed about the live pro scout like you are going to see something different than 420 innings of video since returning from his injury. But you got to employ that ex ball player...what else is he going to do?

Navarro is there #97. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/4504-Catcher-framing-redux?highlight=redux ummmm.....Josh Donaldson is #90, so I think we can conclude Navarro is awful at framing. AWFUL
LTR Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 #97 is terrible, lol You said he's one of the worst, he's clearly not and I corrected you. He's not terrible either he's just poor.

When there are 3rd basemen ranked above you - you're one of the worst. Case closed. BTW, it is interesting to see Sal Perez at #96. I also revert back to my point that with some film room review and hard work, Iannetta went from #120 to top 10 in a single offseason.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Bolsinger is decent, just has trouble working deep into games. Much better than some of the garbage the Jays have been throwing out there. Bolsinger's June and start of July have shown regression. He would have more wins though, if his Dodgers gave him more run support. The Dodgers need to add a starter at the deadline, or they run the risk of San Fran or Arizona catching them.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Donaldson caught 3 games... That's the point. I wouldn't expect a 3rd baseman who caught 3 games to be better at framing than Navarro - a fulltime catcher. Duh. LOL

I agree he's shown a bit of regression, but he's still a pretty decent pitcher, for whatever reason he just hasn't been able to pitch deep- completed 6+ innings just once since June 1st.

LTR Verified Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 He's one of the worst. Most of guys below him in the chart referenced aren't even catching any more. Statcorner and BP have up-to-date framing numbers. No he's not, not if you're compiling multiple years of data, in particular the last 3-5 years. In 2014 he was really bad, granted, but the previous 4 years he was actually an average framer, even slightly above average. This year we're talking about a small sample size... -9 strikes in ~800 chances, not good, not terrible either.
