glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Lol. Never change, Wilner. There is no defending this move. Edwin sucks at 1B, Navarro can't hit righties. This is Gibbons playing his favorites over trying to help the team win. Nothing more to see.
LTR Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Yep Navarro is functionally a right handed hitter. 78 wRC+ vs. R, 107 vs. L. Where as Smoak is better from the left side, 99 vs 82 career. So frustrating that Gibbons is blatantly putting the team at a disadvantage to start the season.
ColdPint Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I read that earlier lol. You know you f***ed up when Wilner has to come up with something REALLY stupid to back it up LOL, giving him the opening start just because he was paid to be our starting catcher last year, yeah ok You know, it's gotten to the point where it's impossible to distinguish the real Wilner tweets from fake Wilner.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 O/U on throwing errors and failed picks by Edwin in this game? I think 2.5 is a good number... I'll take the over unfortunately.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 So frustrating that Gibbons is blatantly putting the team at a disadvantage to start the season. Have to blame AA on this one. All he had to do was dump Navarro and use Thole as the back-up catcher, and this would have never happened. Can't expect Gibby to change.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Why is Navarro the DH, what the hell Gibby and AA? Gotta build up his trade value! Need to remind teams how clutch he is.
bluebird Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I hope navarro hits the cycle and a walk off.The guy had good average last year and was clutch.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect Gibby not to be a maroon. Heaven forbid he do a little research and try to get better at his job.

Heaven forbid he do a little research and try to get better at his job. I agree with you. Gibbons is terrible. However, even fans knew he had a love affair with Navarro. I would think the GM would take that option away from him rather than risk the manager using his bias to potentially cost the team runs/wins. There is no benefit to having Navarro as back-up catcher. He can't catch and can't hit if he's playing anywhere else. Take that option away from Gibbons and he would have smartened up by default. Either that or fire Gibbons and hire someone who has a clue. This is a guy who played Francisco at 3b, Edwin in LF, and so on. He doesn't know s***.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 OMG Barker back on baseball central. I've lost a few brain cells already. "I think Wainwright is an ace. I think Yadier Molina is good."
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Wilner's Twitter feed is unintentionally hilarious.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Wilmer and Simmons: match made in hell for humans with eyes.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 LOL, baseball media is dum.
ColdPint Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 God, Barker is something else...... I don't know how anyone can listen to this guy.
Travis_Snider Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Lets go Blue Jays *clap* clap* *clap*
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 It's going to be a long year, folks.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 It's going to be a long year, folks. Ugh our manager folks. Gibby does not seem like a guy that knows the modern game nor pays much attention to advanced stats.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Maybe they're hoping Navarro gets on an early hot streak so they can trade him? Idk.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 God, Barker is something else...... I don't know how anyone can listen to this guy. Sounds like I'm listening to an episode of COPS.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Navarro and his career 78 wRC+ vs. RHP in at DH vs. Tanaka, while Smoak (who is probably 10+ runs better defensively than Edwin at 1B) rides the pine. Goddammit Gibby.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Maybe they're hoping Navarro gets on an early hot streak so they can trade him? Idk. Clearly. They didn't trade for Smoak because they covet his league average first base defense, lol.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 It's going to be a long year, folks. Navarro's been a different hitter the last couple years. He has done fairly well against righties the last couple years and strikes out less than league average. Smoak is a power guy that strikes out more than league average. Tanaka isn't a fastball pitcher. Pineda is more of a fastball pitcher. You want to get all your guys involved early on. I don't understand why it's so wrong to have Navarro in game one against Tanaka, Smoak lining up against Pineda and Valencia in against CC in game 3. Tanaka is a tough pitcher and having guys who make contact isn't the egregious error in judgement you are making it out today. Going with Smoak or Navarro would have been fine imo. Let's go Blue Jays!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Clearly. They didn't trade for Smoak because they covet his league average first base defense, lol. They didn't trade for Smoak dumn dumn.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 First game of this great year is only 90 min away..... f***in right On!!!! Go Jays Go
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 8 lefties facing Hutch, benched him in two leagues.
