GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 God bless your soul, I'm so sorry. We can be friends though. I'd invite you to go down to the Ralph with me to a game, but I don't fancy going to jail for kidnapping. They don't take it very kindly when you try to take them across the border. Also, probably some sort of child abuse for making me watch the Bills.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 The sabermetrics f***ed the Ackley and Votto careers Eric Wedge "It's the new generation. It's all this sabermetrics stuff, for lack of a better term, you know what I mean?" "People who haven't played since they were 9 years old think they have it figured out. It gets in these kids' heads." Idiot. I absolutely hate people with that line of thinking
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Idiot. I absolutely hate people with that line of thinking It truly is an odd way of thinking. What does being good at the game have to do with understanding the statistics of the game? That's not unlike saying baseball players understand the physics of the game better then the egg-head physicists... after all, they haven't played since they were 9! One doesn't have to do with the other.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Remember when we all thought Texas was god-tier right beside TB? What the hell happened? And we all thought the Jays were all in two, at least for the first two years AA was at the helm.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I think it's fair to consider Gillick the architect. My larger point is that it's hard to find solace much of anywhere for Jays fans. There are worse managed teams that fluke into the playoffs every now and then and if anything that just makes it even more frustrating. 100% right
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 What the hell happened?. Injuries and Ron Washington and prospect failures among other things
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 A baseball team would have to try really, really hard to embrace analytics less than an NHL or NFL org. Without really knowing, I find it hard to imagine that you can nearly as much info from hockey stats as you can from baseball. Especially as it currently stands.

What on earth does being able to be a scratch golfer have to do with your ability to teach people how to be better at the sport? That would be like saying an elementary teach must maintain an 80% grade average in University level calculus in order to be able to teach Grade 7 math.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Other things such as probably not being as smart as we thought they were The Choo and Fielder additions exposed a pretty poor process. Both players looked like ~3 win players, yet the Rangers decided to pay them each a massive amount for seven years. And they've bungled a middle infield situation that looked so promising. They traded a reliable 3+ win player in Ian Kinsler for a negative asset, locked up Elvis Andrus (who is fine, but nothing special) to a bloated contract which only kicks in this year, messed with Profar's development by calling him up and down without committing him to a position, etc. Hopefully they just stick with Odor going forward. Also, they guaranteed JP Arencibia $1.8M.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Raptors only one foot in? They're probably top 10 in the NBA at least.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Greivis Vasquez 2y/13m Demar Derozan 35mpg Dwane Casey 3y extension Vasquez: Yeah not sure about him Demar: As bad as he is this year, still better than giving vasquez more minutes. Casey: Didn't the article say he was open minded? Their offense this year definitely indicates this (a lot of 3 pt and shots in the paint, bottom third in the league in mid range attempts) If you look at all of Ujiri's moves including Denver, working with Dean Oliver, the hirings he made when he came to Toronto, it seems like he's a big supporter of analytics.

One Foot In probably wasn't the best title.
