I have a strange feeling that the reason Boyd is still in Double-A when he should be in AAA is because Alex is going to trade him in his last ditch desperation move.

plus Matt Boyd has average at best stuff. He's not going to be the saviour for this pitching staff

The difference between AA and AAA isn't all that significant.

Similar to Graveman, let him make his numbers look dominating and then trade him for a big league piece.

Given AA's ridiculous fast tracking when it comes to prospects, the fact that he's keeping Boyd in a level below where he should be is telling. Or maybe I'm just making too much of it.

Equally good chance he just doesn't know what he's doing.

So why wouldn't you promote him? His trade value increases drastically if he can dominate AAA.

Plus fastball for a lefty. 91-94 mph. I don't know about his secondaries

No it doesn't. There's little to lose or to gain. They're practically the same level.

How many SwStr today? 5 SO / 3 BB isn't very good, wasn't really getting GB either. I dunno how many SwStr he got, hopefully a good amount.

most of the strike outs were caught looking.

Seems like kind of a typical back-end pitcher start... an improvement but not as good as he needs to be, imo

C+ for today from me, so I'm assuming an F from Tercet because "lefties were raking off of him"

7 or 8 swinging strikes in 6 innings

A quality start can't be less than a B, can it?

Sexy ERA down to 3.88

Nobody cares about ERA

He's improving and not hurting the team. Actually has been the most consistent starter all year.

Reliable in that you know what you're getting, in a sense, maybe.

Best? That would be Hutchison

Consistent is the better word.... edited.

Hutch best overall easily, following by Burly.... but they've had their blowups

As I said in the GDT, his K/9 went up with this start, his BB/9, ERA, FIP, xFIP all went down with this start. His BABIP was also .400 today (though, he wasn't getting as many GBs as usual.)

Improvement, not VAST improvement, but trending (slowly) in the right direction.

It's hilarious how some of you guys aren't man enough to admit when you've been wrong

What are these guys you mention wrong about specifically

Sanchez had 10 men reach base in 6 innings, which was even higher than his season WHIP.

You cant have 10 men reach in 6 innings, and have it be a good start.

Obviously you can, because Sanchez just went 6 innings with 2 earned runs.

Earned Runs =/= Success

Meh, this is hard to actually agree with. Earned Runs =/= repeatable skill, however.

So then

Earned run -> success, and earned runs =/= repeatable, success =/= repeatable? Now I find that hard to agree with :P but i'm sure this debate has been exhausted enough and we all know the various philosophies of ERA vs DIPS

I'm saying that "if a pitcher gives up few earned runs, that is a successful outing for the team", and also saying "that does not indicate that this pitcher is likely to repeat that successful outing for the team".

Bottom line, success = wins, which is giving up fewer runs than your opponents. Naturally, however, you want to have a guy on the mound who is the most likely to repeat that success which, according to the peripheral stats, Sanchez is not (but f*** if he doesn't keep mocking the s*** out of those peripherals, somehow...)
