KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I don't think it's as easy as just buying a starter before 2016. For 2017, Edwin, Bautista, Reyes, Martin, and Donaldson will cost in the vicinity of $100 million. That's five players. There are a lot of starters on the market this offseason, but anything longer than 1 year could mean Edwin or Jose walk pre-2017. One or both of Boyd and Cole emerging as reliable rotation options would help a lot.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Apparently Gibby was on Blair this morning and hinted that his leash may be close to up. Blair: "Putting two-and-two together, I think we're gonna see Sanchez back in the bullpen, maybe by the end of the homestand." Good. Estrada or Hendriks?

I wonder if they would think about stretching out Osuna. he is much more complete as a starter than Sanchez. I think he has enough experience to do it.

I think he has enough experience to do it. I'm sure they've thought about it. Problem with stretching out Osuna this year is that he probably can't throw more than half a season out of the rotation. Severe lack of innings the last few years. But I'd love to see it happen even if there is an eventual date where he has to go back to the pen.

He's probably the best option right now. question is if they have someone else who could be ready in august

I think he is arb eligible Stroman - .5M Norris - .5M makes it a LOT easier to buy one expensive starter. Especially when Reyes is only on the books for a few more years (with a 4M buyout on the last year). I don't think you extend both Bautista and Edwin into their +35 years. I don't think the money is as big a deal as it may look.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 My vote is Osuna down to stretch him out, Boyd on an interim basis in the meantime. Sanchez taking over Osuna's role is fine (although he should be going down to work on starting).
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Sanchez going to the pen means he will still only have 2 pitches at the end of the year. He REALLY needs to go to AAA so he can learn 1 more pitch that he's 100% with and another he's very comfortable with. right now he barely has one pitch most of the time. it's a fastball that's going somewhere.... need to get him sorted before they make him into Drabek.

Either way, send him down and increase his innings and keep him as a starter. If Sanchez is going to the pen (ugh) they can do this without hurting the pen.

tercet Verified Member Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 If the Jays care about Aaron Sanchez at all they will send him to AAA. He needs to learn to strike people out, or limit his walks. And it is probable that neither of those will happen in the majors.
tercet Verified Member Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Sanchez splits are LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL vs LHB 600/667/1133/1800 vs RHB 143/217/190/408
tercet Verified Member Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Earlier ITT I predicted/said that Sanchez is no more then a ROGGY, and that LHB will murder him. Boy oh boy do those splits show that lol

Boy oh boy do those splits show that lol all you've done is show the Jays have a 22 yr old starting pitcher with elite stats against righties and plenty of room to improve against lefties the upside is huge
tercet Verified Member Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 Of course he walks 2 of the first 3.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Not a great night, but he got the job done. And he showed a few innings of like "wow, that's awesome" potential. So take it for now.
strochez Verified Member Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Seemed almost like a Trevor Bauer start minus the ridiculous strikeout totals.
