TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 You expect 5 WAR/200 IP? I don't "expect" anything from any player, but I do think he will be as good as he was last year. He controlled the strike zone exceptionally well, his BABIP against wasn't low, and he induced groundballs. He showed psychological maturation as the year went on, developed a ridiculous sinker, and is going into the season with Russell Martin as his catcher. I don't think it will be very easy for hitters to adjust to Stroman, and I do think he will be every bit as good as he was last year, if not better.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 It should and likely will be Dickey. This isn't a video game. Stroman is still green and hasn't completely proven that he's much better than Dickey.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 It wouldn't surprise me if the team made it Stroman. They love what he did last year and I think they would like the optics. It sends the message that times are changing and things are looking up.

Vetrin prezent: Dickey, Weaver, Latos, Kazmir, Minor, Burnett, Guthrie should pitch the first game.
CaptMurphy Verified Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 A lot of people are expecting too much from Stroman. The "sophomore jinx" is a fancy way of saying in the second year the league scouts a player and adjusts to them and it varies on how long it takes that player to counter adjust. Many players struggle in their second season after a good rookie season. A trip back to AAA wouldn't surprise me anymore then Stroman having a great season. Starting pitching is going to be a problem on this team I think. Dickey and Buehrle are old and in decline, Hutch is a good pitcher, but is a #3 type guy. Only Stroman has the potential to be a front end of the rotation and as I said, you can't depend too heavily on a second year starter, especially one as young as him. I would start a vet on opening day, especially considering they are going at Yankee stadium. I think Buehrle is a better pitcher then Dickey, so I would go with Buehrle.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Stroman. I'd structure it like this: Stroman Dickey Hutchison Buehrle Estrada/Norris This

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 i don't really care what the order is as long as we keep trash like mcgowan off the rotation. with that said though a stroshow home opener would be freakin cool

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 For me it's Stroman all day...Jays probably will go with Dickey (why is he still on the team?)

I'll be at the game, so I'm hoping this is the way it plays out.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Dickey is the man; he throw a knuckleball, wrote a book, traded for two elite prospects, and was raped. Stroman is better pitcher, but that doesn't matter.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Why do people continue to s*** on Dickey? The trade value was bad, not the player, holy f***, he's added a bunch of value on that contract, give it a f***ing rest.

Where would we have been the past couple of years if we didn't have decent inning eaters like Dickey and Buehrle on the team? People bitch about not having enough pitching depth but having 2 guys who put up dependable 200 innings is huge and is part of that depth.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Because we have the off-day I want it to be Stroman or Hutchison and then line up the rotation as Stro/Hutch, Dickey, Stro/Hutch, Mark B, Norris.

I totally agree. And after today, reading the Dickey Effect article, it is clear that he adds another ~ 1.5 WAR with the effect. Plus, he's the most interesting baseball interview ever.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Why'd you delete that TL? Didn't want to start an unnecessary debate over a trivial post. You just know someone would argue it and call me an obtuse idiot. And it's not like we're paying him $22M a year or something. I totally agree. Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Will be / should be Dickey Related matter - are Stro/Hutch still on an innings/pitch count watch?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Players given up warranted an ace in return... That's not what we got. That's why people be mad. So that's Dickey's fault? NO.

Everyone on this board should give it a read.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Am I the only person here who dislikes RA Dickey as a person?
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Hard to say without seeing a few spring games. Based on last season it should be Stroman but its going to be Dickey.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Am I the only person here who dislikes RA Dickey as a person? You're supposed to give him a pass because of his sad story, so nobody will agree with you out loud. Personally, I don't really care about him one way or another, seems like if I listened to him for too long that he'd be a bit of a sanctimonious jerk, though.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 BTS quite judgemental I'd rather watch Stro, Hutch, MB, Sanchez and others before Dickey.... other than that no comment about Dickey as a person Edit: Having said the above, Bautista is a douchebag
