jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I wouldn't call them sneaky good, everyone should expect them to compete for a playoff spot. Lot's of pitching and prospects to trade from to get that third outfielder. Granderson is pretty tbad
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Yes. BOTH d'Arnaud and Syndergaard project to be elite at their positions. Bucerra, who knows. Let's see how this plays out. D' Arnaud does not project to be elite.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 D' Arnaud does not project to be elite. Yes, he does?
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 D' Arnaud does not project to be elite. Steamer has him at 3 wins, and fan projections have him at 4 wins. Add another 1-1.5 wins for framing, and you have a hell of a player. He's good for a lot of the same reasons Russell Martin is good.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 D' Arnaud does not project to be elite. Projected to be top 10 in his age 26 season. At his peak, he should be top 5. That's elite to me.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Dickey trade wasn't needed to avoid losing 90-100 games. I literally hit the roof when the trade was made. It is very likely this will be the worst Blue Jays trade ever. Wow, you should probably play in the nba
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Mets are about BUILT Have been through a tough rebuild - and now ready to compete No sign dArnaud will change positions. You dont do that just because he had some hiccups with the glove in one season and you have another catcher coming up behind him. Catchers that hit like he projects are GOLD. But we still need to see if there is any CARTER (read: leader) in him. Well, if you decide he's not a supreme leader, we would love to bring him back based on the things he can do that actually matter.

Giving up 2 potential short term, young, cheap 3 win players for a 85 year old immediate 2 win pitcher. Always love the old, nearly useless guy sides of those deals.

If he had been signed to like a 3/40 FA contract or something we'd all be looking at it is a pretty nice buy. Unfortunately this was the texbook example of buying a player at his absolute peak value.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I hate it when people reopen these painful wounds. Whatever happened. Happened. Its done.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I had no issues with losing d'Arnaud in the deal, and I still don't. I did however have a problem with losing Syndergaard, and I still do.

Favouring JP over him though...we then ran out replacement level catchers for consecutive years.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I still don't think D'arnaud will stick as a catcher. He's got bad knees, in 2-3 years he won't be able to catch anymore.

I am shocked it took that long for someone to call out the "leadership" part of this post. BJMB must be hungover today...
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I had no problem with the deal. At the time we had great pitching depth. I think we overpaid a bit, but not enough for me to freak out and make a big deal about it. I'm not a armchair GM so I'm not going to second guess after the fact. If I had to do the deal I'd do it again.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Well one positive spin is we wouldn't have Russell Martin right now. Lol you gotta love JFaS
baubau Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Well one positive spin is we wouldn't have Russell Martin right now. Not sure if you can say that. Maybe the org would have traded him for another player or his injuries may have been cause of concern to move him at 1B. Maybe we could have still had Martin and not Smoak. Maybe Lind got traded sooner. Who knows? All I know is that this trade sucked for the value we gave up, not necessarily the player we got.
43211234 Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 The Blue Jays got absolutely fleeced. It looked like a horrible trade at the time and it's only worse now.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Well one positive spin is we wouldn't have Russell Martin right now. Synderlander + TDA + Money - Dickey - Thole >>>>>> Martin - Money
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I don't know what anybody can complain about, we all hated the deal at the time and deserve to get trolled for it.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 This was basically us laughing when Mets fans were calling for Syndergaard OR d'Arnaud for Dickey, and then we found out that we traded BOTH for Dickey: http://i.imgur.com/4Ae5tVh.gif
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I supported the deal although I thought Dickey would be a bit more successful. They were and still are in win now mode and he had an inexpensive contract.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Dickey has been a solid mid-rotation workhorse starter, but obviously that's not something you give up Syndergaard and d'Arnaud for. True, but it's not as bad as we all thought it would be, and as bad as people think it still is. It's become somewhat justifiable. Looking at RA9-WAR for Dickey and considering the Dickey effect, there are worse trades you could have made if you were truly in a balls-to-the-wall kinda year. Now the philosophy of going balls to the wall to that extent can be called s*** in and of itself, but the trade in a vacuum hasn't turned out disastrous. Probably looks a lot worse when Syndergaard starts contributing, and it still f***ing burns that we gave up more for Dickey than we got for Halladay. He's probably a +10 framer. Add that to the bat that's at least league-average and you have the potential for 4+ win seasons if he can stay on the field. I don't hold the Mets org in the highest regard, but I really hope they don't let the passed balls hurt their perception of how good he is. Us Jays fans need to somewhat keep this in mind as well. Prepare yourself ahead of time for Donaldson's throwing errors. When he inevitably makes them, don't s*** on him and remember that he is a Lucky Charms-scented angel from the sky. 19 year old Wuilmer Becerra was also part of that deal. 6-4 195 lb OF just needs to solve the contact problem a bit as he moves along to upper levels of A ball this year I kinda hated that we had to throw in DeSclafani and Becerra in each of those trades. Just seemed unnecessary after all that we'd given up, to give away another couple of high upside guys.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Sandy Alderson is a historically good GM. s*** happens. Let's move on

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 How do you Jays fans feel about the RA Dickey deal? Syndergaard should be emerging this year and dArnaud may be a top ten catcher. Glad to see Dickey doing well for you For trolling this board, the karma police are now after you. d'Arnaud will retire before Dickey will...hahahahaha

Us Jays fans need to somewhat keep this in mind as well. Prepare yourself ahead of time for Donaldson's throwing errors. I kinda hated that we had to throw in DeSclafani and Becerra in each of those trades. Just seemed unnecessary after all that we'd given up, to give away another couple of high upside guys. Agreed, losing those extra pieces as throw-ins really sucked.
