Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Badenhop and Axford please, and start the ST.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Pap Smear has a vesting option at 13M for 55 "games finished" in 2015, or 100 in 2014+2015. He had 52 last year and his career low is 49. So basically, if he doesn't get hurt or lose the closer role, the option is very likely to vest. This is under the assumption that he doesn't just demand that the option become guaranteed in exchange for waving his no-trade clause, which seems to be a very likely scenario.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Badenhop and Axford please, and start the ST. Yeah just sign free agents. Why trade assets for relievers. especially overpaid ones.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Papelbon? a power pitcher that's losing his power.. ugh. no thanks.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Yeah just sign free agents. Why trade assets for relievers. especially overpaid ones. Yeah, seriously. Papelbon is good, but way overpaid, and not worth giving up assets for a reliever. If he was a 3 win reliever, then sure, but he's not. Use the money on two relievers, and trade Navarro for a 3rd.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Double pass. He's all about himself, a selfish f***.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Papelbon would take over Kevin millar as my most hated blue jay of all time. Please no!
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Every day that the bullpen holes aren't filled and every day that Casey Janssen remains a free agent increases the likelihood that he's coming back. With the glut of RP still available so close to spring training and with his second half problems last year, a 1-year contract at a reasonable price looks like a good solution for both sides.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 No problem having Casey back but we need more.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I don't like Axford and Casey on the same team, but I like Casey more than Axford. Perfect world scenario, they sign K-Rod and Badenhop, bring back Casey, and give Delabar another shot in ST. Realistically, they probably dont wanna afford even two of those first three guys.

I have no issue bringing Janssen back, as long as it's not as "the closer".
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I don't really want Janssen back in any capacity unless it's like $2M or under. Do you really see Janssen signing a deal much over $2M at this point?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I don't really want Janssen back in any capacity unless it's like $2M or under. I really don't see him getting more than 2M. Feel like he would have signed ages ago if someone offered him that. Given how f***ed up and unpredictable the market has been this year though, I could be totally wrong.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Ya I would guess around $5M for one year. He has quite high demands. Why are you so hard on him. Prior to getting sicj jansenn was lights out for two years
Caper Verified Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Last night I dreamt the Jays signed Shield to something absurdly reasonable like a 3 year deal. I don't know why I'm admitting this now... months after it happened. But I had a dream I was at the winter meetings and had sexual relations with Mike Wilner. I'm not gay and if I was the last person I would want to be with is Mike Wilner.... But it was in my dream. I didn't want to dream it, but it happened. That is all.

GNick49 Verified Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Too much is being made of bullpen. They are unpredictable. A full year ago our bullpen was suppose to be our strength. Which quickly turned into our Achilles heel. Two years ago bullpen was projected to be weak, it was outstanding. Janssen and Delabar had a great year Cecil came out of no where.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I wouldn't mind CJ back at a cheaper price. Maybe AA is waiting for the asking prices to drop as players get desperate for a job before ST, hopes to luck out and land a proven closer in a trade (maybe with more ie 2B or 4th OF), or he just thinks that everything is in place and guys like some he's claimed off waivers, minor league deals, guys like Delabar bounce back to some solid form. Maybe he's trying to find a better starter out there so shuffle a few things around. Then again can't get everything done and like some have mentioned BPs are unpredictable. One year they're great, the next they suck and they're mostly the same players. I don't want to see AA panic and piss away a few prospects, even low level ones, to bring in a couple MR or overpay for some borderline RP. Either the guys still out there have huge demands or BPs just aren't a huge concern with teams right now. We're getting closer to the reporting times to various teams so I'm willing to bet some moves start to happen within a week or two. It would be great if they could bring someone in who's proven but not going to cost a decent prospect, or someone traded for who isn't better than a Delabar or waiver claim who costs both more dollar wise and cost the team a player. Maybe AA is trying to focus on moving Navarro to someone hoping to get some relief help. As long as our starters can give us quality outings and go deep into games and the guys called upon don't explode I'll be happy. I don't care who the name on the back of the jersey is providing they come in and do their job.

jays76 Verified Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 AA is playing hardball and the waiting game with McGowan & Janssen. I have a feeling they both come back on bargain basement contracts.
Governator Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Nationals To Sign Casey Janssen The Nationals and right-hander Casey Janssen have agreed to a one-year contract with a mutual option that will guarantee him a total of $5MM, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). Janssen is represented by ACES. Welp

Heyman forgot about poor old McGowan. Matt Albers is decent too and with his injury they may be able to sign him to a minor league deal. Waiting out the market is probably the right decision since there's not much that separates these relievers.
