TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 It seems people in Baltimore are just generally used to crying and making up ******** excuses... To wit (regarding the stupid ongoing football deflating scandal): http://i.gyazo.com/5f937069304eb55d2f541bf1cefa8662.png Above excerpt taken from here.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 This isn't true. Mariners fan base is hilarious, at least the guys over on Lookout Landing. Look through the thread about the Saunders trade. Most of the guys there were totally unhappy about the move, but most of the comments were still light-hearted and humorous, despite a s*** situation that none of them should have been happy with. http://i.gyazo.com/6e381b8d25d34c304c8ad9fe1228ed74.png Though that is kind of consistent with SB Nation in general, a lot of their fan bases are a just generally a lot "classier" than most of those that you encounter on forums. Back on the MLB.com message boards, the Seattle one was far and away the absolute best place to have civil discussion. They had a terrific community.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 The question after this is...who the hell is going to want to work in the Baltimore front office after this disaster? Next GM: Ed Wade. Then the Orioles can go back to their rightful place as a perennial 90 loss team.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 You mean like the Blue Jays who have the longest playoff drought in sports right now? They do! In those 21 years the Jays have won 1634 games and the Orioles have won 1584 which is 50 games less than the Jays. Also, the Jays have 2 WS championships under their belt in 38 years. The Orioles have 3 championships in the 61 years they have been in Baltimore.

So basically both teams win 1 championship every 20 years? lol I'm sure the Orioles average more wins per season in their 61 years than the Jays do in their 38 years.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 They do. 81.31 wins a season for the Orioles and 78.55 wins a season for the Jays. So you're basically talking a 3 win a season difference. Although the Blue Jays were an expansion franchise and the Orioles were an already established franchise when they moved the Baltimore.

You're correct BUT the Orioles were the "established" franchise known as the St. Louis Browns, who some consider to be the worst franchise in sports history.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Beeston was on his way out anyway; worst case scenario you make him sit quietly in an office somewhere for a ~year, its not like the franchise will fold without his "leadership". The Baltimore outcome is much worse as Duquette is someone they had no plan or intention of replacing, and now he's supposed to just go back to work as if nothing happened? Its not like Duquette is going to put the blame on us for not getting a deal done as he's smart enough to know that no one in their right mind should be expected to trade "Hoffman plus more" to give him a freaking promotion. Im gonna go out on a limb and predict Beeston to sign with the O's LOL

No, not quite like the Blue Jays. TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Congratulations on your team's truly immense success over the last three years. You scraped into the playoffs in 2012 with a wild card and the lowest run differential among playoff teams and then got beat in the first round by your "MFY"s, and you won the division in a year where everyone else was down in 2014, and got cleanly swept by Kansas City shortly after. Your team hasn't touched a pennant in over 30 years, and despite what the size of your egos would indicate, no, two unimpressive fluke-like playoff berths in the last three years don't compensate for your club's spectacularly atrocious play in the years leading up to it, and an incredibly mediocre three decades. And while there's nothing more embarrassing than fans of two bad teams throwing s*** at each other, we can take solace in knowing that the Jays look like the superior team between the two leading into the coming season, and for the foreseeable future. Enjoy rooting for a ball club that is run by a GM that wants nothing to do with it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Don't underestimate Cleveland. I'd give Cleveland a slight edge. Not by much, though.

Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 You mean like the Blue Jays who have the longest playoff drought in sports right now? When exactly was the last time the Orioles won the World Series? Cause, you know, no one is really going to remember (or care for that matter) who the Royals mopped the floor with in the ALCS

The O's won 96 games without Wieters and only having Machado for half a season. And won the division by 12 games! Not even close to fluke like. You conveniently forgot the part where we swept Detroit. And about the attendance, we've been over this. We have another very good baseball less than 30 minutes away and we still averaged over 30k per game. What more can you expect from a team that is borderline small market? I would expect attendance to be around 35k this year which is impressive for a smaller market team. Look at teams like Oakland and Tampa that can't put butts in the seats even though they've both had recent strings of success. I'm not here to bash Toronto anymore, I'd much rather see you guys on top of the division instead of the Skanks or Sux. But you can't count the O's out despite what many believe to be a "poor" offseason.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 If they started there search properly at the end of the season we could have had like Zahidi or Forst or something like that no? They went after Williams and Duquette during the WS, I'm sure Zahdi had already been verbally agreed as GM the minute after Friedman left Tampa.

Alexander is now on bankrupt by betting on clandestine dog fights.

I mean, someone come out and say talks are done and everyone is moving on. Please!? The longer this drags, the more it seems like Rogers is going to do something stupid. Just stop and walk away I miss Interbrew. The Toronto Sun, is blasting this ordeal all over the paper today, specifically Ed Rogers, it's about time the Sun did something right.
