G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I am very much looking forward to seeing Happ have to face Bautista, Edwin and Donaldson back to back to back. Could be fugly.
jb22 Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I am by no means a Richard Griffin fan but this article sums it up nicely: http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2014/12/03/jays_obtain_canadian_fielder_michael_saunders_griffin.html Comment from that article, bwahaha: "That's all that they could get for Happ? Not impressed that they traded for a guy who at best is a fourth outfielder. If indeed Melky is not coming back, that is seriously bad news. This team is not improving, but Rogers is saving money. That's what counts, right?"
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Meh thats dumb. TSN radio is pretty bad. Yeah but ESPN is a major shareholder in TSN so they are going to prop it up however they can.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I wonder if Pillar had another hissyfit when they signed Saunders They probably told him he was going to be the 4th OF and get decent Abs vs LHP heading into next year. He is probably more happy considering Saunders is a LHH who has had a number of injuries in his past.

Though he was probably grinning from ear to ear when Gose was traded

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Maybe, but I don't think Pillar is happy in a platoon role at all. Though he was probably grinning from ear to ear when Gose was traded Pillar has never had anything handed too him his whole career. He's always had to work hard to prove his critics wrong at every level. I don't know why he should expect anything different now but you never really know with player's egos. FWIW, his manager at AAA last year said he handled his demotion like a true professional and was very supportive of his AAA teammates.

Saunders was a wasted asset there and Happ was a useful but excess asset here. Both teams win this trade imo.

I guess I should still say "if" at this point though....

King Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 1m1 minute ago Saunders: Proud Canadian, absolute honour to wear #Bluejays uniform. Grew up big #Jays and #Mariners fan. Couldn't pick better team to go to Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 54s54 seconds ago Saunders: Not just about representing #Bluejays it's about representing my country. #Jays Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 34s35 seconds ago Saunders: Just try to improve, learn more from failure than success. Think I've been productive big-leaguer since 2012. #Bluejays #Jays Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 14s15 seconds ago Saunders: Was taking daughter to swim lessons, missed 1st text from Jack Z. He called me back, told me, then AA called. #Bluejays #Jays Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 14s15 seconds ago Saunders: Also talked to Gibby. #Bluejays giving me opp. to play LF, allow me to be myself. Got feeling I was wanted. #Jays Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 31s32 seconds ago Saunders: No secret Safeco unfriendly to hitters. More excited to hit in the line-up than at the stadium. Multiple all-stars, MVP finalists. Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 14s14 seconds ago Saunders: #Bluejays have a couple different hitters who strike fear into the opposing team. Not going to try to do too much. #Jays Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 17s17 seconds ago Saunders: 30 teams and chances slim that I'd ever wind up in a #Bluejays uniform. I feel blessed. #Jays Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 45s45 seconds ago Saunders: Everyone has their favourite place to hit. I know I play hard, can't really envision myself playing any other way. #Bluejays #Jays Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 42s43 seconds ago Saunders: I'm long and lean, with that comes natural leverage but (my swing) can get long at times. Both teams win this trade imo. I agree 100% with you. Player for Player, without taking anything else into affect, I think we won, but realistically it's good for both teams. Mariners had an extra outfielder after Nelson Cruz and Happ gives the Mariners a solid #4 pitcher who put up a sub 4 xFIP and held his own in the AL East who's gonna benefit from the huge ballpark.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Great trade. AA having a much better offseason than I thought he'd ever be capable of. Kudos to him. Seriously. Donaldson, Martin, Travis, Saunders....and he's likely not done. Amazing what he has done in one plus month.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 http://i.imgur.com/fNU0yWK.gif Is that Kevin Pillar behind the kid with the glasses? Watch, Melky will go to the Orioles He'll look ugly as f*** in that uniform. I dunno, Loup seems like a pretty perfect fit for WAS. Yeah I could see Loup working, but I don't really see AA dropping a reliever from a bullpen that only has like three arms right now. AA confirms they are out on Melky. I'm kinda surprised that he did. He usually sticks to the "I can't comment on specific players" narrative and this revelation won't do Melky's camp any favors in leveraging the market.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Daniels has said a catcher and starter is his main focus for the off season but do they have a reliever worth taking? No, Soria is good, but they won't give him up. Outside of him, their relief pitching was pretty garbage last season. If they want Navarro, the Jays should give him to them for free. I'd also really appreciate if they would dump Estrada on somebody. I get why people like him on the depth, but you can bring in someone like Beachy or Medlen for the same price. Estrada's skill set doesn't play to the dome, and he was terrible last year. With Pitching which would you guys do for about the same money 5 years of Lester for $26 million per OR 7 years Scherzer at $28 million per. Instant shut down Ace of the staff. OR Both Andrew Miller and David Robertson for a combined 5 years $26 million. Set-up and Closer tandem would be the best in baseball with Cecil and Loup as a pretty lethal 7th inning tandem. No way in hell you get those guys for 5/26 combined. You're looking at 4/90 at the very least (4/40 for Miller, 4/50 for Robertson). Neither guy is worth that kind of money with the other relief arms still available out there (Neshek, Gregerson, Crain, trade market).

I think he meant Miller and Robertson for 26M per year for 5 years ... same as Lester
