Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 He will always say the trade makes sense for the jays no matter what trying to make it sound like they win. Graveman was below Tirado and reid foley at the time of the draft most likely but now he is ahead of them. Wilner tried to make the Lind for Estrada deal sound good for the Jays. If Wilner can't see that the Lind trade was a salary dump then I don't know what to say.

Not a bad trade if we HAD to dump Lind. Better to get Estrada then to just pay the 3million buyout to Lind and get nothing.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I never said any of that. Obviously, being tired or fatigued is going to affect a players performance, nobody would argue otherwise. You declared that Lawrie needs to stop drinking Red Bull because its affecting his performance, I simply refuted your assumption (you sure are full of them). What percentage of players would you estimate drink coffee on a daily basis? I said it would affect his timing. If you drink Red Bull is your energy level / concentration always at "peak" levels? No. Therefore you are dealing with energy and concentration levels inbetween "normal" and "peaked", this variance would disrupt your timing at the plate and your timing fielding. Having your timing only slightly off in baseball would absolutely affect your game. That's deductive logic.

If it was just a salary dump he would have got a prospect or at least a player still making league minimum, Lind was likely traded because he isn't a "gamer" and other character related reasons.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Why wouldn't another team have offered something better than Estrada if Lind was sought-after by several teams? Estrada was likely the best AA could get.

I'm afraid this is likely true It didn't help that we essentially had 3 players this year who only should have played at DH (Lind, EE, Francisco). It was hhard for Gibby to get the most out of those guys when they all suck on defense.

Not to mention Nver knowing when Lind's back was going to keep him out of the lineup for 2 weeks, then play 5 games, then gone for 2 weeks, then play for 5, then gone for a month etc
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 On the topic of Lind....meh who cares now. With AA, you have to look at the big picture instead of dissecting every move or it will drive you crazy. Like with people who still bring up Napoli for Francisco when the big picture was getting Wells off the books without paying a penny of his salary. Lind out Gose out Lawrie out Donaldson in Travis in Martin in Under this scenario the offense is vastly improved, far less injury prone and more defensively versatile. Unquestionably better. If Lind was the move that AA had to do before starting the real work then so be it. Like taking that big dump in the morning before getting off to a productive work day.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Her name is Lisa French, I don't think that makes her French... Yeah for a minute there, he had me believing we would have another Martin like press conference but then I read the article. If she has the last name French, it probably means some distant ancestor of hers spoke French. The odds that she herself speaks French are pretty slim. Most Franco-Americans were shamed out of their French generations ago. There are just pockets of it remaining, in Louisiana most prominently and a few other isolated pockets from Northern Maine through the Appalachian trail.

But did they have to move Lind for the other moves to happen? For as much baggage as Lind had he still was a fantastic LH hitter for a team that needs a LH hitter. Ill take Lind moving for the other deals as a fan but just seems weird since he is exactly the player the team needs.

His throwing can be problematic. Worse than E5 problematic.

Serious question, I have no idea. Both Edwin and Lind were bad defensively. Could Smoak inherit the 1B job? Equally important, will he hit better outside of Seattle or is he really a bust of a hitter? Edit: Forget it. Smoak seems to be a below average hitter AND defender at 1B according to Fangraphs. Why did we get him again?

(Although it was a small sample size for Valencia) Everyone hates the Lind trade now, but really the goal of this club was to get better defensively, and Lind was overpaid for what would essentially amount to a platoon DH. EE has publicly stated his preference to remain the DH. i really dont think this is difficult to figure out at all, further acquisitions aside, Smoak/Valencia will be platooning at 1b.
