AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I think this is what Lawrie needed. The Jays put too much pressure on a 20-year-old kid to be the face of the franchise. Being Canadian only puts more pressure on him. Being in a calm, small-market city where his Canadianness won't thrust him into the spotlight will be good for him. Now, he won't feel as if he has to carry the franchise on his back anymore. He can just be a regular member of the team.

rookiefuzz Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 With the lineup currently as it sits, how many wins do we have in 2015?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This is the exact type of trade where giving up prospects doesn't hurt nearly as much. An efficient use of them, not like the Dickey trade. AA putting together another good farm system has paid off.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 cheer up. I have to mention that once every 3 years or so. Huh? That was because a certain poster came back.
Statman Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 The Jays just received the infield equivalent of Mike Trout with 4 years of control in his prime on the cheap and didn't hurt their everyday 2015 roster...still can't believe this.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Kiley Mcdaniel of Fangraphs had a write up of the prospects. Reading the article it seems he is pretty low on the prospects going to the As. Even I thought he sold a few of them short. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/franklin-barreto-the-key-to-the-josh-donaldson-trade/

I wouldn't call Donaldson the Mike Trout of anything. Mike Trout was still better by almost 4 wins over the last 2 years. Also Donaldson is probably going to be on the decline the next few years considering he is 29 and lots of his value is on defence. Still, the deal is a no brainer but I think you are hyping it too much.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 JA Happ was a 1.3 WAR pitcher last year. We gave up two guys that might reach JA Happ potential.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 That's not to say they aren't valuable. That's why building depth and trading from it is a beautiful thing

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Wtf decline? He's 29, he is in his prime and going from that stadium to here he will do even bettet Well his defence will decline as peak defence is usually around 25-26. All the projections have him as around a 5 win player going forward so technically that is a decline from the last 2 years. However, a 5 win player decline or not is still a fantastic player. I do this trade 10/10 times.
