  1. 113B row 17 seats 5-6 130B row 34 seats 3-4 face value or best offer takes them!
  2. got a bunch of things wrong, but knew AA would be smart and go with smoak/valencia at 1b
  3. Valencia was pretty good (both eyetest and small sample sized stats) at 1b, and actually the transition between 3b and 1b is pretty natural and there is huge precedent for it. Although "wear and tear" contributes to injury risk, i don't think necessarily it is the only factor, and until then, we should be playing our regular rotations and adjust accordingly. I do however agree that 153 games for reyes is too much, i wouldn't be too opposed to giving goins or kawa 8 additional games and limiting his PT to about 145 games... keep him off the turf as much as possible
  4. pretty sure that travis isn't listed here because he was listed as the tigers #1 prospect
  5. i think the tough part about allocating rest days / dh stints is that you want to get your fielders off the turf, but also take advantage of Rogers Centre's favourable splits toward right-handed power. the core of the team should be getting 5-7 rest days assuming completely healthy, IMO. 10 inter league / 152 games DH. assuming 54 LHP, 108 RHP DH: 147 edwin / 5 reyes 1B: 10 Edwin (inter league), 101 smoak (RHP), 51 valencia (LHP) 2B: 157 travis, 5 goins/kawa/izturis (RHP) SS: 148 reyes, 14 goins/kawa/izturis (RHP) 3b: 157 donaldson, 5 valencia (LHP) RF: 157 jose, 5 pillar (LHP) CF: 153 pompey, 7 pillar (LHP) LF: 153 saunders, 7 pillar (LHP) C: 128 martin, 34 thole (dickey)
  6. ya i think alot of the trade revolved around alomar's insane upside though. by far the youngest player in the trade and already a very good player. still, carter sucks. most overrated jay of all time
  7. we get more cost effective hitters, but lose out on cost effective pitchers.
  8. you could move the fences back (or up in certain parts) without getting rid of any seats. There is a sizeable gap between the seats and the wall
  9. if the jays hold true to their 2018 grass promise, are there any other changes you hope they make to the dome? personally i would look into moving back the fences. I'd love it if Toronto could play as a neutral stadium--i do think our club in general has a tough time attracting low-risk high reward guys looking to rebuild value (masterson, beachy, etc.) as rogers plays as a hitters park. too many HRs.
  10. i was thinking the same, but then maybe thought giving saunders alot of rest + the fact that i think his bat will provide more value off the bench against lefties, as we will be short LHB on those days lol dunno why i brainfarted the goins thing
  11. v R reyes bautista donaldson EE saunders martin smoak pompey 2bman v L bautista donaldson EE valencia reyes martin saunders pompey goins --- will never happen obv
  12. i think you failed to contextualize the idea behind the concept. imo you are right for the most part, but in certain situations it's different. for instance, a "poor hitter" is a very relative term. yes to a team like the mets, bartolo colon is so bad he should probably be batting 8th. but really, isn't a hitter like goins' relative offense vs the rest of the BLUE JAYS offense similar to a pitcher in the AL? jays line up is really really good, probably the best in baseball. goins is really really bad. for a polarized team like the jays (where several of their hitters are VERY good and a few are VERY bad), goins is essentially a pitcher relative to the rest of the lineup despite probably being better than the average hitting pitcher in this scenario, i dont think its simply "yes and no" for the 8/9 swap. i think there is an argument to be made for our worst hitter to hit 8th, as i feel he will be significantly worse than our 8th best hitter. note i am not really taking a side on either side of this issue, just noting that it is worth discussing and not simply dismissing like you seem to be doing
  13. That shocks me, as what I'm talking about is probably a half decade old and has been discussed extensively on places like fangraphs. Although circumstances are definitely different in the AL.
  14. Osuna probably wouldn't get it done. Throw in stroman.
  15. what is the point of "breaking up righties" when smoak is worse at hitting right handed pitchers than any of those righties?
  16. why don't you actually contribute something to the discussion instead of riding someone else's dick?
  17. there have been plenty of articles mentioning this--i'm too lazy to google. cardinals for better or for worse have always been more inclined to use modern tools and sabermetrics to optimize their lineups, and alot of times have hit the pitcher 8th. for whatever its worth, they were also one of the first teams to go away from the 'contact hitter dude in the 2 hole' and just put their 2nd best OBP guy there, which you seem to agree with. basically having your 9th hitter interact with the top of your order provides more value than the additional ABs the 8th place hitter would receive throughout the season. generally this doesn't apply to AL lineups as the worst hitter in an AL lineup is going to be alot better than a pitcher, but i think for a lineup as polarized as the jays there are significant arguments to be made for putting a guy like pompey at the bottom of the order. (especially if goins is in the lineup) it certainly isn't as black and white and obvious as you claim.
  18. actually modern sabermetrics disagrees with you completely. worst hitter usually 8th, contact guy with high baserunning skills 9th
  19. kind of sketched because he's injury prone though.
  20. wait... so was sullivan implying that trading goins or loup for souza wouldn't get it done?!?! SHOCKED
  21. i think for whatever reason (i have been doing this too) we are overlooking AA's quest to get healthier. i don't think its a coincidence we replaced our most injury prone player with one that would be the most durable player on the team. i do love saunders from a statistical standpoint--but i think he's a lock to miss 20-30 games, and that's optimistic. man i think he would look really good in our lineup... i think if we play fowler in left it will negate some of his horrible defense... a good example would be shin soo choo (before this season)... horrible numbers in CF, but an average/above average corner outfielder.
  22. i don't see that as likely at all, given the weak pitching market and a reluctance to take on salary. boston will get some help but they are so bad right now it will take more than a couple of arms.
  23. melky is a good hitter but our other needs (defense, save money) make him kind of an undesirable target imo. i honestly think AA is playing up the fact that we are chasing him--as leverage for other negotiations.
  24. i think this is such a silly argument--despite the fact that the front office hasn't outright said so, i think we KNOW that certain players cannot be obtained for certain players for instance i think we KNOW that the angels front office wouldn't trade mike trout for josh thole. now the souza situation is obviously a billion times more ambiguous than that, but isn't it fair to assume that he HAS value? which goins does not? souza has value. not only stats, but has tools too. to say that i KNOW that the nationals would never trade him for ryan goins... i don't think is even remotely a stretch why don't you contribute something to this discussion other than arguing with everyone of my posts?
  25. its funny because we all agree that souza is going to be a nice major league player except some of us seem to think that the nationals front office is stupid...
