fireballW Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I don't get why we would do this. Rogers Center is more a major hitter's park because of how the ball carries / having a dome to hit in during bad weather etc... Not really because of the dimensions being tiny. The whole point is mostly that the ball would carry farther in the Roger's Center. You could look at how many Donaldson hit to the warning track and probably assume a lot of those would be homeruns. ** this in reply to Donaldson spray chart and translating it directly to Roger's Center

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 For those asking about Park Factor performance increase, maybe these will help Coliseum with Rogers Centre overlayed (in red): http://www.hittrackeronline.com/overlay/overlay_1417234600_204004216.jpg Josh Donaldson's 2014 spray chart on top of Rogers Centre (the dark blue are already homeruns), essentially based on this he would have not hit anymore HR at RC this year. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=887&d=1417235337 ball doesn't carry as well at Colosseum, especially at night and you dont get many balls fouled out of play. Donaldson is a 345 OBP guy.... Ball flies at the RC, especially in the summer, but never has "bad" carry and you can get 10 pitch ABs because the seats are so close.

It isn't just about the actual distance of the walls, but the total hitting environment. Things like elevation and the fact that the ball carries in the RC are the main factors.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It's funny how everyone is talking about the A's like they have no zero chance of being a playoff team. Then again people talk that way about the A's every year.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Quality was poor in my last post, here's a better overlay of Josh Donaldson's Coliseum spray map on RC (it looks like no more HR by park alone) http://i.imgur.com/7Y2BfBp.png

Not to mention playing a bunch of games in Boston and Baltimore (not to mention Yankee Stadium) as opposed to, you know, Anaheim and Seattle.
TobiasFunke Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This may be a dumb question, but do Urena and/or Lugo have anywhere close to the potential Barreto does? I know Barreto is the best of the three, but Urena was the one considered most likely to stick at short, correct?

Barreto has the highest potential with the bat, Urena is the most likely to stick at SS Also not a dumb question!
SAAviour Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Lester, shields, scherzer should be fighting to either sign in Toronto or the nl now. No one wants to face this offence.

Then again people talk that way about the A's every year. We understand Beane knows what he's doing. Every trade, he always gets 3-4 players, and 1-2 don't work out, but he always ends up with 1-2 that do, and then he flips them for more and more players. That's his job, to flip players when they start getting expensive, for younger guys. Short term AA wins the trade, but Beane gets a lot of cheap/serviceable guys, and he gets a high upside SS, both teams win, long term the As because of all the prospects as well.
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Alright AA, now get Troy Tulowitzki for Reyes without trading Stroman, Sanchez and Pompey. You can do this.

If we want to look at it solely by numbers: Overall PF of Rogers Centre is 103 (2014) Homerun PF of Rogers Centre is 109 (2014) Overall PF of Coliseum is 97 (2014) - 6% increase at RC Homerun PF of Coliseum is 92 (2014) - 17% increase at RC We're looking at a major increase in HR and signifcant increase in overall batting performance for Donaldson.
