goeb Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Well...this season comes down to pitching. Jays will most likely have the most potent offense, but pitching is the wild card here, and we all know you can't go too far without adequate pitching.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Would we have been a better team with Lawrie at 2b and Headley at 3b + all those prospects.. Probably not, but I would have been happy with that as well.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Lol at Lawrie getting over 500 PA's. I think the 115 wRC+ is the more ridiculous number but I'm a Lawrie hater
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Jose Reyes -> $22,000,000 Josh Donaldson -> $4,500,000* (?) Jose Bautsita -> $14,000,000 (!!!) Edwin Encarnacion -> $10,000,000 (!!!) Russell Martin -> $7,000,000 (!!!) Total: $57,500,000* Some fun math: 2014 WAR vs 2015 salary: Jose Reyes -> 3.3 WAR -> 6.67M per WAR Josh Donaldson -> 6.4 WAR -> 700k per WAR Jose Bautsita -> 6.3 WAR -> 2.22M per WAR Edwin Encarnacion -> 3.6 WAR -> 2.78M per WAR Russell Martin -> 7.8 JFaS WAR -> 897k per WAR Total: 27.4 WAR -> 2,098,540 per WAR. Unbelievable.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Everyone should be calling to get a Jays Flex pack. Playoff tickets are going to be a bitch to get after 20 years of no playoffs.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It's been over an hour since the news broke and I'm still f***ing hyper and excited and we're definitely not done. Still need to address the bullpen AND a lefty bat

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 wow, crazy deal. Lawrie and his red bull addiction injury proneness can hit the road
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Everyone should be calling to get a Jays Flex pack. Playoff tickets are going to be a bitch to get after 20 years of no playoffs. Deja Vu, all over again.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This just in, Red bull sales in Oakland just doubled.....
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 The real question here is do I get a Martin jersey or a Donaldson jersey?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I always hated Lawrie as a person, but he was a Bluejay so i put that aside. Since he's now on Oakland he can go f*** himself. ....on the other hand he got us Josh D, so i kinda like him still.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Deja Vu, all over again. I definitely wasn't saying that after the Marlins trade.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 You guys are assuming Lawrie will never stay healthy. Clearly Donaldson is the best 3B in the AL. Last 2 years best in Baseball. Can anyone argue at this point that he might be the best. Somebody needs to look up his charts to see how many of his fly balls in Oakland would be homeruns in Rogers Centre. It would be nice to add a big lefty bat to break up all the RHB. Lind would look nice right now. Good idea. I dunno where those charts would be. Both I'm a poor jew tho lol

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Beane says that #Athletics were pretty adamant they weren't going to deal Donaldson but #BlueJays essentially overwhelmed them. -susan THATS OVERWHELMING?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 With Martin, Buehrle might actually take a step forward this year. Martin is going to make all our starters better, especially Buehrle.
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I like the trade and the signing of Martin. The more (good) white guys on the team the better. However, I am haunted by the ghosts of Marlins past. We were getting a number 2 or even a number 1 pitcher (Josh Johnson), a number 3-4 pitcher (Buerhle), the best SS in baseball (Reyes and yes he was described this way after his time at the Mets by many writers/fans), and some useful spare parts in Bonifacio and John Buck. All we had to give up was Alvarez, Hechavarria, DeSclafani, Marisnick and Nicolino. We all know how this turned out. I refer and defer to this excellent article: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/2/20/5429994/hindsight-is-20-20-was-the-marlins-trade-a-mistake So, I'm not going to jump on board with this just yet. Not. Just. Yet. Lawrie, Graveman, Sean Nolin and Barreto. We'll see. We will see.

The difference is we aren't getting an injury prone ex-star and a bunch of expensive old guys, but a young controllable best 3B in baseball. Those don't come too often

Bareto must be what got them excited and Lawrie can at least give them a passable player with a couple depth arms for good measure. Still a terrible trade for the A's but Beane must have some sort of plan here.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Top dude aint Franklin Barreto lmao
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Whoever just called into the Fan590 had probably the best call I have ever listened to on Sports Radio. Listed all his points respectfully with clear facts and did it in under 2 min.
Statman Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Alex is back baby! This is one of the greatest moves by a GM in the history of the sport and the irony is IMO AA fleeced Beane. It's a ballsy trade on AA's part too because of the negative reaction it can have with the casual fanbase (Canadian, Merchandise etc).
