fireballW Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Well im going to miss Lawrie... in the same way that I would miss Kawasaki if he was part of the deal. Well done AA, now finish off our pitching and get us an outfielder. Screw missing Lawrie. It is so great we are getting rid of these guys. Arencibia last year, Gose and now Lawrie. Cocky, immature A-holes. That couples with getting rid of guys who strikeout a huge amount of times (Gose again, Rasmus, Francisco) is going to make this team a whole lot more fun and less frustrating to watch. Dickey is about the only guy on the team I really can't stand now, since Bautista did a lot better this past year of not arguing over every little detail.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It's addition by subtraction, except that the addition completely obliterates the subtraction.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Pitching depth took a hit. Wondering what our starting rotation will look like next year. Whatever it is, I didnt see Graveman or Nolin fitting into it.
Caper Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 You know. I would like to see Smoak given a bit of a leash to see if he can come around in Toronto. A better hitters park. A switch hitter. I think we could afford to give him a decent shot.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It's addition by subtraction, except that the addition completely obliterates the subtraction. Addition by subtraction, but also addition... (to be fair, I don't think this team is better without Lawrie, Nolin, Graveman and Barreto... So we're not actually better losing those guys... We are better adding the best 3B in baseball, however...)
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Steamer has Donaldson as only a 1.8 win increase on Lawrie Oh God no..

Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Oh God no.. I think it's safe to say we gained a bit more than that.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Great trade. These are the type of deals you make every time. Huge win for the Jays.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I think it's safe to say we gained a bit more than that. You would think.. LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I think Donaldson hits fourth between Bautista and EE.

VegaBond Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I'm a Brett Lawrie fan too, but we need to win. Stop crying over your man crush for Lawrie, dude will probably be back in a few years. For any Jay's fan's who think we got raped need to go talk to Donaldson's teammate Josh Reddick who is a pretty damn good player himself why he doesn't get why the A's would trade their best player. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/28/josh-reddick-perplexed-by-the-josh-donaldson-trade/

If he rides the DL he will fade away into the sunset of obscurity.

VegaBond Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Because beside his offence which is a work in progress if there is any potential left, his defence is great. Who in their right mind DH Lawrie anyways.
S33n Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Jose Reyes -> $22,000,000 Josh Donaldson -> $8,000,000 (?) Jose Bautsita -> $14,000,000 (!!!) Edwin Encarnacion -> $10,000,000 (!!!) Russell Martin -> $7,000,000 (!!!) Total: $61,000,000 please trade Reyes for a bag of balls
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 please trade Reyes for a bag of balls What?
S33n Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Lawrie's gotta kick the Redbull, he'll never have consistent energy levels taking that, which is going to throw off his timing. this doesnt matter in the slightest. Thanks though.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 great trade. Lawrie can't stay healthy anyways.
S33n Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 What? Reyes is a waste of money. League average hitter and below average at his position. Please trade him for a bag of balls.

jkun41 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I apologize if this has been mentioned or if it's already common knowledge, as I skipped a few pages. A few A's fans from different forums think JD was traded because of a tweet he made. Apparently he was talking to a fan and said ownership was cheap?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Reyes SS Donaldson 3rd Bautista RF Cabrera LF Encarnacion 1st/dh Martin C Smoak 1st/dh Travis 2nd Pompey CF That's what I would like to see. 5 righties. 4 switch hitters. Cabrera 4th? Are you high? 4th is one of the most important spots in the batting order and will be occupied by one of Bautista/Edwin/Donaldson. If you REALLY want to split up the righties, Cabrera can hit 3rd.

I'd call you a retard but social media seems to be a predominant influence on players these days, and I wouldn't doubt it. Usually if anything makes it to social media, it's been an issue in the clubhouse.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Trade Norris + for one of the Cubs SS prospects then trade Reyes and Buehrle for a 2nd baseman and finally sign Shields.
jkun41 Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I'd call you a retard but social media seems to be a predominant influence on players these days, and I wouldn't doubt it. Usually if anything makes it to social media, it's been an issue in the clubhouse. Yeah, I'm not saying it's the reason. But some A's fan seem to think so. From Athletics Club: Let this be a lesson to ALL in the organization. The Keith Ginter factor is f***ing real. Talk s*** = gone, even if you're an all-star or the face of the franchise. Also you guys should be writing the next dramatic Moneyball movie if you believe Beane makes these moves to show the players who's in charge. Well honestly what can you really say though? He talked s*** about ownership and of course he goes right in the doghouse and off the team. Not surprised with this. Billy has never been one to put up with guys who badmouth him or the ownership to the media. Reddick just retweeted some stuff criticizing the move, so I'm expecting he'll be gone next. There's more on the mlb official forum. If there's any truth to it (being a reason for the trade)... the ownership is pretty stupid IMO. (Edit) Posts from the MLB forum: I am actually disgusted by this trade even if it's a great deal for Oakland. I truly believe that Josh was traded for his comments about how cheap this organization is. He spoke the truth and then BOOM! He gets traded. Now Reddick is mouthing off about this situation. I wonder if he will be next on the chopping block. I just saw the sports report on the TV news, and the reporter was saying Beane doesn't care about the fans, and Donaldson was traded because of his tweet about money. Hahahahaha! A great post!!! Yes! This is true buddy! Donaldson was tweeting a fan and said that the A's owners have billions of dollars but yet they have a low payroll. He said they were cheap. Something us real fans have known for years. Of course they were going to trade Donaldson. A given. I knew it was going to happen after those remarks. Now Reddick is opening up his mouth and talking trash about A's ownership. What a cluster muck.
