This and the David Price trade really show how teams are looking more and more towards years of control and cost. They're going after getting huge surplus values out of players in early years of their careers. Salaries for free agents and extensions are still exploding while pre-arb and early arbitration years still cost effectively nothing.

Wow guys.

go tune in on 590

some guy is raging that Donaldson is s*** and Pablo is better.

that was priceless.. "If you think Donaldson is better than Sandoval, then you are INSANE".. lol .. he was clearly passionate!

I for one am ecstatic about this trade - yeah, wish it wasn't Baretto, but that's a price you gotta pay for a Donaldson-type player. besides, i'm surprised beane didn't insist on stroman or sanchez!

You can go all in and f*** it up (see 2 years ago). Clearly AA has learned something. He seems to be properly valuing defense for the first time.

Completely agree

I believe Donaldson is projected to get 4.5M next year.

Jose Reyes -> $22,000,000

Josh Donaldson -> $4,500,000* (?)

Jose Bautsita -> $14,000,000 (!!!)

Edwin Encarnacion -> $10,000,000 (!!!)

Russell Martin -> $7,000,000 (!!!)

Total: $57,500,000*

Donald won't make 8 through 1st time Arb will he?

Howard got 10 as the highest ever. Trout will obviously shatter that.

Here are the criteria for determining arbitration payouts as laid down by MLB's collective bargaining agreement:

The quality of the player's most recent season

The length and consistency of the player's career contribution

The record of the player's past compensation

Comparative baseball salaries

The existence of any physical or mental defects

The recent performance record of the player's club

$7.5 seems to make sense. I don't think it will be an issue. I see a 5 year deal being announced.

The fact that all of Stroman, Pompey, Norris and Sanchez are all still on this team is a testament of just how good value out of his assets AA just pulled.

wow very shocking, never thought the jays would trade lawrie

to get a proven player like fora guy we've been waiting for to break out but has been injury plagued? cant complain about that

Posted
Lawrie never got rid of that hitch in his swing and unless he does he will never hit ...Donaldson is a terrific player who should hit more homeruns at rogers centre....good start for AA..
Posted
This is why I dont like the deal in the long term. Should have kept Barreto or Lawrie and throw someone else in.

I don't think you can quantify "throwing in" someone to replace Lawrie and Barretto.

Posted
So essentially AA turned Marcum and a bag of balls and one good prospect into a few okay years of Lawrie and the best 3B in baseball.

Oh my god is anyone listening to the fan right now.... "Donaldson is no where near Sandoval".

Dumbass casual fans don't even know who Donaldson is. Just goes to show how awful the MLB's marketing has been since the steroid era came to an end.

Wow

Martin & Donaldson - winners

Who will play LF? Need a power bat now - not Aoki

Why do we now need a power bat? Lol. This team has plenty of power.

`

Why do we need a power bat as a result of this move? Just get the best overall player for the right price.

Might want to change your user name.

BAAAAAAAAAHAHAAAAAAAAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA

I go away for a couple weeks and the Jays get Martin and Donaldson??? Reminds me of the time I was away during the Jays 11-game winning streak in 2013. I am a bad luck charm.

Anybody who doesn't like this trade is f***ing retarded. It's basically Lawrie and Barreto for Donaldson. Lawrie will end up missing half the season anyways. I read some dumbass comment that the Jays won this trade in 2015 but after that who knows? No

The Jays won this trade in 2015

The Jays won this trade in 2016

The Jays won this trade in 2017

The Jays won this trade in 2018

Maybe in 2019 if/when Barreto becomes an impact player and Donaldson is either resigned or leaves as an FA this trade turns around. There's a very realistic chance that the Jays pick up 4-5 WAR per year on this trade for the next 4 years and after that, who really gives a s***. And that assumes that Donaldson hits 7-8 WAR as usual and somehow those guys going the other way have to pick up 3-4 starting next year.

I wouldn't hate getting Bruce on the cheap :D

I wouldn't sleep for weeks of that happened. AA is back!!!
