Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 According to Steamer 2015 Projections 3B Candidates Pablo Sandoval - 3.6 WAR Chase Headley - 3.8 WAR Brett Lawrie - 3.7 WAR Lawrie is good. 3,7 fWAR in just 60 games
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Lawrie is good. 3,7 fWAR in just 60 games you really think he'll play that many?lol
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I think this is just an attempt by AA to increase the Redsox salary. Pretty much a guarantee he is going to Boston. Redsox might be the best team on paper next year, Surprisingly Yankees have done nothing. No Rumors either.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Lawrie is good. 3,7 fWAR in just 60 games He had 1.7 this year when he was barely average with the bat, fingers crossed for 130 games!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Driving up the price for Boston maybe, while using the 'five year policy' to maintain ostensible honesty but limit actual exposure? Yeah this isn't a bad idea. Offer him a strong five year deal and if he takes it, good. But make the Sox go that extra year if they want him.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 If these fans call Navarro fat....what would they call Sandoval?
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Pass on Panda, spend our resources on 2nd. baseman (I like Lawrie at 3rd.), one SP and bullpen.
wamco Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 big pass. Go for shields with that money
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 He's a good player and all but Headley is clearly a superior player. It looks like the Panda is getting overrated because he's won a couple World Series. With all of Headley's back problems, you guys honestly think he'd come and play on concrete willingly? I highly doubt it, hope I'm wrong, but it isn't realistic.

If Boston gets Panda + Lester, ya, they should be the favorites for the East, Castillo should also continue to develop into a very decent player. Yanks will get one of shields/scherzer + probably a top Cuban or something, never rule them out of anything.

I highly doubt it, hope I'm wrong, but it isn't realistic. With all of Melky's back problems, he didn't have a hard time playing on concrete this past season. The fear of turf is over-rated. Sure it's a factor, but it's probably a far smaller factor than people think. Over the years, how many times have we seen an infielder go down because of an injury in the field? The most common injury Jays players suffer seems to be when they're f***ing running to first base. Reyes hasn't had a single field related injury in his entire time here. And I haven't looked into it, so I'm not sure if I'm recalling this correctly, but I don't think Headley's got chronic back problems like Lind. He had a slipped disk in his back last year. I'm not sure how much of a risk that puts him at for future back problems, but I'd be surprised if it's high.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I personally think there are better ways to upgrade the club then this.

Ask anyone with back issues.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Well, MLB.com's Email list just sent me an Email with the worst subject line I've ever seen... "Left-handa & Panda hear Boston pitches" I literally can't even.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I would not be disappointed if the Jays put a reasonable offer in on him.....5-85/90 somewhere in there but i would not go over the top to get him. I would also think that Lawrie should just do what he is asked. I got no faith in him playing a full season which would make more sense to have a solid 3B option so when he gets hurt 2months into the season Travis will be ready to step in from the minors.

That should probably tell you how little I know about back problems. Regardless, I still believe that the detriments of playing on turf are a bit overblown. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't pursue Headley if the medicals check out. Despite his back issues, he was an elite defender last year (he actually posted the best defensive numbers in the majors), and he's still relatively young.

JTech780 Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I think going after Sandoval is more about the stats that he puts up. It seems like the Jays are targeting guys who can change the mood in a clubhouse and have winning pedigree. I don't think going after Headley makes a whole lot of sense, he is a great defender but his bat is below average and he has only had one good year at the plate. I would rather leave Lawrie at 3B and target someone to play 2B, than get Headley.

You should check out fangraphs.com and read some of the stuff they have there.

This wasn't what you were originally responding to though... The question was if he'd WANT to sign here, to which your response was that the risks of injury for him was low since all he had was "a slipped disk" and that the turf issue is overblown... Now you're following that nonsense up with "I don't see any reason why they shouldn't pursue Headley". SMH Edited November 20, 2014 by Smokey
