Governator Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Yea I listened to that this morning. I was a little surprised how straight up Howarth was talking about Dickey and I was glad to hear it.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Dickey might be an ass but Howarth might be the bigger ass. I like him as a broadcaster but no one needs their play by play guy stirring s*** like this. Put this jerk out to pasture, please.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Same kind of reports came out of the Mets clubhouse after they dealt him. Guy has an ego.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2014 Author Posted November 19, 2014 It's probably not so much an ego, but someone who just goes about his business and does what he's asked to do on paper Remember we had Halladay, and we heard the same kind of vibes when Ricky Romero talked about Halladay. Not sociable, not really someone that would talk to the young guys. Just stay out of his way. I think people are easier to criticize Dickey because he hasn't been THE ace
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Dickey might be an ass but Howarth might be the bigger ass. I like him as a broadcaster but no one needs their play by play guy stirring s*** like this. Put this jerk out to pasture, please. 5 minutes into the audio and he's already called Adam Lind soft, using the classic "didn't really care about winning" language. I hate when media personalities slag on players immediately after they leave town.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I honestly don't see what the big problem is. If he keeps to himself goes out and does his job while not being friends with anyone on the roster that is fine. If he questions the manager's decisions and/or teammates, then there is a problem. I mean Roy Halladay kind of had that same personality. I think of any of the players on your roster are going to have that type of personality a SP is probably the one you can get away with it. Im sure there are a lot of great pitchers in MLB who are kind of the same.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Sometimes I feel like the guys in our Media, whatever position, be it Blair, Wilner, Bob McCown, Howarth, Zaun, just try to connect dots in their heads and make conspiracy theories based off of narratives that they believe in or want to drive. Does that make kinda make sense haha??
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 This makes sense, Dickey always looked fuming mad when Gibbons pulled him on many occasions....

Does that make kinda make sense haha?? They are also closer to the clubhouse and probably have a good idea what is going on in the clubhouse. They respect the privacy of the players and coaches and I'm sure they never speak badly about a player's character while he is still playing for the Jays because it makes their job much harder. No one is going to want to do a story with a guy who is calling out someone on the team for bad character.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I wonder if Gibbons touched him and it started all of this I got a s*** storm for a comment like this.... lol
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Dickey is a prima donna. Get rid of him. Needs the dome closed, a personal catcher etc. He's not worth two roster spots.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I have no problem trading Dickey if they replace the 200 innings. Howarth talked about getting a bullpen piece back . ******** I want more than a bullpen piece. If Kendrick would waive his NO trade then that is a good deal for both teams. Kendrick would help himself too by playing most of his games in hitters parks in his walk year.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Rasmus and Lind had the rep of not giving 100 %. That has been out there for years. Dickey is not that type of guy and who gives a s*** if he is a loner as long as he isn't pissing off people spouting religion like a Gary Carter.

I have a hard time believing someone as athletic and talented behind the plate couldn't do it. Vasquez for Boston caught their knuckleballer pretty well last year.

That would mean Navarro as back up , bench bat part time DH and if you have tons of money that isn't bad. I might add Thole has no where to go and could be sent down to AAA
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 People don't even challenge me on my s*** anymore. I'm relentless. I will debate and fight all night lol. funny how people who talk s*** all day suddenly get all sensitive or should I say they get a little "touchy?" lol

Problem is Gibby always needs 1 player he can fight with.
agrushcow Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I hope we trade him. Not really about this, more the fact that I'm tired of relying on a knuckleballer who gets lit up the 3rd time through the order every outing if he gets there. The attitude hopefully gets him shipped out and we can upgrade his spot in the rotation.
Key22 Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I think this is nonsense. Dickey is a pitcher - not exactly a heavy influence with the players. Dickey throws a knuckleball - what exactly can he do to influence other pitchers? Howarth talks about intensity but Dickey has that - the effort is very clearly there like Halladay. Maybe he's not buddy buddy with everyone but the results are there - 200 innings of solid number 3 starter results is fine. Especially on the money we're paying him. I'd be fine trading Dickey now - if they can get a younger solid pitcher. But being pissed because the manager takes you out - I WANT guys who want the ball. I liked David Wells when he yelled at Cito -- I don;t want the guys on the mound who don't give a rat's ass.
fireballW Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Dickey is a prima donna. Get rid of him. Needs the dome closed, a personal catcher etc. He's not worth two roster spots. Agreed. A guy like him might be good for a story, but not the time of guy that would fit into a clubhouse. These types of guys always seemed wormy to me, worried more about their own image than any of their teammates. Comparing Doc to Dickey seems ridiculous to me, their personalities seem completely different. Dickey would annoy guys in the same way I think that Hayhurst would. They just seem... I can't even explain.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 If they trade Dickey, they better have a 200 IP back up plan.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Dickey + platoon partner and Reyes, throw in Izturis and Money if needed 13 mill-15 ? Take back Kyle Crick and Scutaro ! Sign Headley! Shields! Cruz/Melkey? Headley, Goins and lawrie should provide awesome defense !

Ship him out for a reliever!!!
