Gotta think FG top July 2 rankings are coming out soon if Minogue's already cueing up the videos on youtube.

Please tell me you confused Kiley McDaniel with Kylie Minogue, and there isn't just a FanGraphs guy named Minogue that I don't know about http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing002.gif

I've been calling him Kiley Minogue for a while cause he's often a cranky little b!tch on a period.

Ang do you golf? I've played a bunch of courses in your area, plus one in Punta Cana, another in Puerta Plata, and that great course Playa Grande two hours east of Puerto Plata that DeNiro flies into on a helicopter

I've read somewhere that the Dodgers held off on Moncada so they could sign anything and everything (well maybe not all but alot) starting July 2....so we do have competition.

I just returned from my trip to the Tampa Rays complex at Boca Chica.

Rumours

-Tons of Cubans players (Very sexy young arms), and one scout/Buscon said "Next week we will bring here 3 more young Cubans in an speed boat"

-Jays are interested in 3 or 4 young arms (300-680K) included Yadier Alvarez.

-Jays and Vlad Jr verbal agreement still in force. Vlad Jr showcase with White Sox maybe to rise his bonus signing. Vladimir asking price for his son is between 4-7M.

-Most of kid still in roids, but new drugs are better and tough to identify (Expensive drugs. Couple of MLB player use those drugs. I can't use names, but are important names of East coast lol)

I have more info, but are very dangerous to divulge.

Danger is our middle name!!

Baseball is a very dirty business. I feel sorry for the children of 14, 15, 16 years old who are used by people without scruples

I don't know why you don't bring over some sexy cubanas for your pimping business, you might be able to afford to upgrade to a horse instead of a donkey for your reconnaissance trips.

Interview with the Vlads:

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Ready to Follow in Dad’s Footsteps, Surpass Him

By Matthew Marrota

on Mar 18, 2015

Today, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. turns 16 years old, which may be a surprise to anyone who has seen him. Vlad Jr. will sign his first Major League contract on July 2, 2015 for a bonus expected to be in the multi-millions. If you’ve seen Vlad Jr. in person there is an undeniable resemblance to his father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr. His appearance, swing, stride, cannon arm, size; everything. I’ve worked with Vlad Jr. every day for the last seven months as he closes in on signing his contract. The first time I saw him play I was simply shocked, and over time I knew that whatever team he ended up with would be getting a player who should be ready for the big leagues by age 20 or 21 and has the potential to be a perennial All-Star like his father. Its hard to predict any 16-year-old to be an MLB star, but this is a Bryce Harper situation, where everyone knows from a young age that they were simply born to play baseball. Vlad Jr. is the closest thing to a clone of his father you can get — its like he was created in a science lab. I have watched hundreds of scouts and representatives from all 30 MLB teams scout Vlad Jr. and none of them have left less than stunned. Vlad Jr. is 6’2” 220 pounds, an arm modeled after his father, the most beautiful swing of any 16-year-old on the planet, and a natural knack for the game that simply cannot be taught. Vlad Jr. was born with the natural talent that his father had, but that only motivates him more to work harder than everyone else. He has the Guerrero name to live up to, and he hopes to surpass his father in every aspect of the game.

I sat down with Vlad Jr. and Vlad Sr. at their home in the Dominican Republic to talk about the upcoming signing and what they believe the baseball world can expect from Vladimir Jr. The answers may surprise you; their expectations are high yet humble, but simply stated they believe there will be a Guerrero jersey running around on MLB fields for the next few decades.

The following is question and answer done with Vlad Jr. and Vlad Sr. translated into English:

Vladimir Sr.:

Q: How do you compare yourself at age 15 to your son?

A: He has more power, a lot, I was very thin. Other than that we are the same player. We both played like men since we were very young.

Q: How young do you think he can make it to the big leagues?

A: With God I think he can make it 4 or 5 years after he signs this summer. If he works hard and that is what God wants.

Q: What do you want him to accomplish with his career?

A: I want him to beat my by one in everything, one more All-Star game, one more home run, one more hit, one more Silver Slugger.

Q: While you were in the big leagues your entire family was always with you. What is your favorite memory with Vlad Jr.?

A: All the All-Star games were the most fun. He wanted to be a bat boy but he had to stop after what happened in San Francisco with Dusty Baker‘s son. He got to warm up on the field with me whenever. I’m glad he experienced that.

Q: When did you know he was a special baseball player?

A: He was very little, we all knew. He was naturally so good, he looked like me.

Vladimir Jr.:

Q: How old were you when you knew you had the potential to sign with an MLB team?

A: I was 10 years old. The people around me that watched me play knew I had the potential. They saw the way I played and said I would be a great player.

Q: How is your game similar and different from your dad’s?

A: We have the same swing, we both have strong arms, I want to steal bases like he did. I can’t think of anything that is different.

Q: Who else do you look up to and base your game off of other than your dad?

A: Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera and Mike (Giancarlo) Stanton. As an all around player I want to be like Stanton, he has the power and potential to be one of the best of all time. I think right now my game can be best compared to Stanton because we both play outfield.

Q: What advice has your dad given you?

A: Don’t look for problems with anyone, don’t be disobedient. Listen to the coaches who want the best for you.

Q: How old where you when you started training seriously? When did you switch to a wood bat and when was your first home run on a big league field?

A: I was 7 years old when I dedicated my life to baseball seriously. I started training at that age I was no longer just a kid playing baseball. I changed to a wood bat at age 11, which is something most of us do here in the Dominican. My first BP home run was at 10 years old around 320 feet. The first time I hit a home run in a game on the big field was at age 12 with the wood bat.

Q: Describe a normal day in your training right now?

A: I left school to play baseball full time years ago. I go to school on Saturdays. I wake up at 6:00 am and run on the beach, do sprints and sometimes long distance. Next at around 7:00 am we go to the field for flyballs and groundballs, then BP. After that we go to the gym around 10:00 am for an hour to do weight training. In the afternoon after we’ve eaten lunch we will practice for maybe three hours doing everything. Sometimes I have 1,000 swings a day, maybe twice a week. 600 swings on the other days. There are no days off, maybe sometimes on Sunday when I play softball.

Q: Do you feel pressure because of all the success your dad had?

A: No, I feel no pressure, I am confident in my own talent and ability.

Q: How did you develop the power you have now? You once hit 33 HR’s on 60 swings in a homerun derby and can hit a ball over 400 feet in live games off of signed pitchers.

A: Hard work. I have good natural talent but that is nothing without the hard work. I am dedicated to the game.

Q: During tryouts or when your father is watching you seem to always perform better, do you agree?

A: Yes, I play better with pressure, the ball goes farther.

Q: What is your favorite memory with your dad while he was in MLB?

A: Anytime he brought me on the field was the best, I loved playing with all the guys and warming up with them. When we beat the Yankees in the playoffs with Texas and advanced to the World Series, that was my favorite game.

Q: Your dad was motivated to play baseball to get your family out of poverty; what is your motivation?

A: I love baseball — that’s why I play. Money is not important — I play because I was born to play.

Q: What are your goals when you reach MLB?

A: I want to always be healthy and not get hurt. My dad had 9 All-Star games, I want 10. He only had like 450 homeruns, I am going to try to hit way more, like Bonds. I also want 3,000 hits, my dad just missed it.

Q: Your uncle Wilton has trained you since you were 5 years old. What does he mean to you?

A: After God, he is my guide. He taught me to play baseball.

Q: Where was your favorite city your dad played in?

A: Montreal. I love Canada. I don’t remember all of it because I was little but that was my favorite. I was always on the field.

Q: Your cousin Gabby played in the Futures game last year, and your cousin Gregory is also set to sign for millions this year with you. How fun is it to go through this with them?

A: Its fun to do this with family. We are playing for the Guerrero name. We always motivate each other to do better. We always want to do better than the other.

And sign...

I still am uncomfortable that he will sign for someone else. Verbal agreements mean s***.

What if the Dodgers don't get the guy they want and then suddenly offer a mili extra to Baby Vlad? Could happen...

Posted
I don't think Ang understands how much we appreciate him. We should crowdfund him a donkey or something. Maybe a horse?

Aren't hookers used as the generally accepted gift in the DR to show appreciation?

Dude would be a king down there if he had a horse

Verbal agreements aren't binding, but when we read Ben Badler's breakdown (usually right after the draft) and he mentions who is tied to which team, 90% of the time it turns out to be accurate. These rumours are quite often pretty damn accurate. Of course nothing is 100%, but I like our chances.

This. The agreements almost always stick. Usually in cases where they don't stick it is because of a failed physical or something.

How excited should we be about VGJ? Scouting of 16 year old kids has a very shaky history. All the comments are just my opinions based on stats.

1. Nomar Mazara 2011 OF Rangers 16 Dominican Republic $4.95 million

Made it to AA as a 19 year old. and jumped up to the #87 prospect by BA. KRate going in the right direction

2. Jairo Beras 2012 OF Rangers 17 Dominican Republic $4.5 million

Undetermined age earned him a 1 year suspension, then broke his Hamate bone early in his first pro season 6'6" CF with power potential. But .647 OPS 31% KRate at LowA isn't a great start. He'll need a Mazara type improvement.

3. Michael Ynoa 2008 RHP Athletics 16 Dominican Republic $4.25 million

BA jumped the gun and ranked him #54 in 2008. Lost 2 full seasons to injury 2009 and 2011. Is now a 22 year old in HighA and has pitched 161 innings in his 6 pro seasons. Did strike out 64 in 45 innings this year and was the other piece going to the White Sox as part of the Smarty deal.

4. Ronald Guzman 2011 OF Rangers 16 Dominican Republic $3.45 million

19 Year old 1B repeating LowA to a .613 OPS. Time to maybe think this one isn't working out.

5. Miguel Sano 2009 SS Twins 16 Dominican Republic $3.15 million

Has ranked in the BA top 100 for 6 straight years (Which I think is a record for appearances on that list), including 4 straight in the top 20 and sitting at 13 this season after missing the entire 2014 season. I'm not as high on him as some...but tough to bet against his kind of power.

6. Gilbert Lara 2014 SS Brewers 16 Dominican Republic $3.0975 million

#6 prospect on BA's 2014 international prospect list. Brewers paid him the most. No pro league info yet.

T-7. Dermis Garcia 2014 SS Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $3 million

#9 prospect on BA's 2014 international prospect list. Yankees paid him 2nd most. No pro league info yet.

T-7. Luis Heredia 2010 RHP Pirates 16 Mexico $3 million

Pre-Mature BA ranked him #78 after the 2012 season. Repeating Low A at 19 last year he walked 33 and struck out 43 in 89 innings. Keeps gaining weight...fastball speed is getting slower

T-7. Elier Hernandez 2011 OF Royals 16 Dominican Republic $3 million

19 year old in Low A with a sub .300 OBP and shaky corner OF defense.

T-7. Gary Sanchez 2009 C Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $3 million

After 4 years on BA's top 100 list, Sanchez dropped off this year. On the Yankees 40 man still and will be their AAA catcher after a full season at AA. His power has never converted to HR's. I watched him in Erie and he killed BP...which is his M.O. Great player who just doesn't give a damn.

11. Adrian Rondon 2014 SS Rays 16 Dominican Republic $2.95 million

The number 1 prospect in 2014, can't miss, sure thing. Best SS ever. Okay just my Rays bias. No pro information.

T-12. Adonys Cardona 2010 RHP Blue Jays 16 Venezuela $2.8 million

The pitcher that made me continually made me look stupid by ranking him in front of Osuna. Is it fair to call a 20 year a bust...well I am.

T-12. Eloy Jimenez 2013 OF Cubs 16 Dominican Republic $2.8 million

While certainly still in the too early to tell category, 150 PA's in the AZL at 17 with a .260 OBP isn't great.

14. Ariel Ovando 2010 OF Astros 16 Dominican Republic $2.6 million

Another f*** off go to hell player for me. I picked him in several Dynasty pools and even traded for him in a keeper pool with an MiLB aspect. Now 20 and made it back to rookie ball last year where he put up a .237/.287/.289 line. Now in the Cubs org.

15. Rafael Rodriguez 2008 OF Giants 16 Dominican Republic $2.55 million

6 minor league seasons. best thing that can be said about him is that he doesn't strike out that much. Now 22 still in A ball and having no success.

T-16. Yorman Rodriguez 2008 OF Reds 16 Venezuela $2.5 million

Made it to the Bigs with a September call up last year. Still just 21...but he's been nothing better than average with the bat in his 2400 minor league PA's. Still a freak athlete with a huge arm. Will find jobs through waiver claims for many years because of that but 4th OF appears to be his ceiling now.

T-16. Victor Sanchez 2011 RHP Mariners 16 Venezuela $2.5 million

125 innings in AA as a 19 year old, sounds good. But he's still got a pretty low ceiling, but physical specimens (he doesn't look like a pitcher) who can pound the bottom half of the zone can carve out a career.

17. Wily Mo Pena 1999 OF Yankees 17 Dominican Republic $2.44 million

One of the first bonus babies. 1800 PA's of replacement level ball in the bigs over 7 seasons. Had a couple good seasons in Japan.

18. Joel Guzman 2001 SS Dodgers 16 Dominican Republic $2.255 million

62 major league PA's. retired from the Mexican league in 2013.

T-19. Nelson Gomez 2014 3B Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $2.25 million

#6 prospect on BA's 2014 list.

T-19. Byung-Hyun Kim 1999 RHP Diamondbacks 20 South Korea $2.25 million

11.3 fWAR for his career. Making him the second most success player on this list to date.

T-22. Phillips Castillo 2010 OF Mariners 16 Dominican Republic $2.2 million

20 now...still hasn't made it to full season ball. Not much hope here.

T-22. Renato Nunez 2010 3B Athletics 16 Venezuela $2.2 million

Had a breakout season with 60 XBHs last season. Now has to prove he can do it away from the Cal League. Still has a great swing, will never hit a prospect list cause he's not athletic, and makes more errors than any 3B in the minors.

T-22. Chin-Hui Tsao 1999 RHP Rockies 18 Taiwan $2.2 million

-0.4 career fWAR

25. Angel Villalona 2006 3B Giants 16 Dominican Republic $2.1 million

Oops BA did it again...ranked him 33 in 08 and 44 in 09, but in this case it's tough to say they truly blew it...he lost 3 years after a murder charge. He came back out of shape but put up a .927 OPS in the DSL when he was released. Just hasn't had any real success since his return to the U.S. I'm actually rooting for him. Who doesn't like to see a murderer who paid his way out of his charges be a success.

26. Tzu-Wei Lin 2012 SS Red Sox 18 Taiwan $2.05 million

Ceiling is a Ryan Goins with lesser defense.

T-27. Juan De Leon 2014 OF Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $2 million

#2 BA International prospect from the 2014 class.

T-27. Juan Duran 2008 OF Reds 16 Dominican Republic $2 million

If he sticks around long enough he has a shot at breaking the minor league strikeout record. 33.7% K rate over 7 seasons.

T-27. Guillermo Pimentel 2009 OF Mariners 16 Dominican Republic $2 million

Left Fielder who strikes out almost 30% of the time.

T-27. Adalberto Mondesi 2011 SS Royals 16 Dominican Republic $2 million

The change to his Daddy's name hasn't helped his bat. Age to level...blah blah blah a .256 OBP takes away everything.

T-27. Adys Portillo 2008 RHP Padres 16 Venezuela $2 million

Hard thrower...now a bullpen guy. Had his best K season out of the pen last year...but still walked way too many.

32. Jose Vinicio 2009 SS Red Sox 16 Dominican Republic $1.95 million

Defensive specialist. No power at all.

33. Jose Leal 2011 OF Mariners 16 Venezuela $1.925 million

Made it to short season Appalachian League last year. Still has no real experience...and is considered a non prospect already.

34. Miguel Cabrera 1999 SS Marlins 16 Venezuela $1.9 million

BUST...only 58.6 fWAR

35. Brayan Hernandez 2014 OF Mariners 16 Venezuela $1.85 million

#3 2014 prospect.

T-36. Jose Almonte 2013 OF Rangers 16 Dominican Republic $1.8 million

played as a 17 year old in the AZL league this year. 171 PA's .453 OPS. Not a good start.

T-36. Anderson Espinoza 2014 RHP Red Sox 16 Venezuela $1.8 million

#4 International prospect BA 2014

37. Amed Rosario 2012 SS Mets 16 Dominican Republic $1.75 million

#98 on the BA top prospect list this year. Short season Brooklyn as an 18 year...putting up better than league average numbers. Makes okay contact but doesn't have a lot of power.

38. Gleyber Torres 2013 SS Cubs 16 Venezuela $1.7 million

Looked above average in the Arizona Fall League as a 17 year old this year. He may actually fly under the radar being in Cubs org as a middle infielder. He's a guy that could make top 50 by mid season if he plays full season.

39. Jesus Montero 2006 C Yankees 16 Venezuela $1.65 million

I loved Jesus. I thought it was a huge win trade for the Mariners. Now Boxy takes the wheel...there isn't enough room for 2 of us to love Jesus.

40. Jen-Ho Tseng 2013 RHP Cubs 18 Taiwan $1.625 million

He's one of those guys that isn't going to wow prospect hounds. But he's got 3 average pitches and walks no one (15 walks in 105 IP in Low A). He's a Cubs prospect so I naturally love him.

Honestly I expected this list to have way more success, as I've always been a big International prospect advocate. $102 Million spent. It's got 3 guys still on the top 100 prospects list. Another 10 or so that it's too early to tell. 1 average pitcher...and one superstar hitter.
