Gorlak Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 The reality is this trade doesn't hurt the team as much as many of us are making it out to be. AA now has some excellent rotational depth and saved a small but not insignificant amount of payroll in the process. He now has the luxury of dealing a SP without creating a hole. He needs to replace the offense lost or this will be a problem. Losing Melky and Lind without adding a good bat would be terrible.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 He needs to replace the offense lost or this will be a problem. Losing Melky and Lind without adding a good bat would be terrible. A platoon in LF could easily replace Melky. He isn't as valuable as you think.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Probably not too hard to find a leftie to bat against righties exclusively at the DH position and put up 1.5 WAR Mayberry/Francisco platoon anyone?
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Mayberry/Francisco platoon anyone? Ewww. That's two pure DH's who just to maybe get a 110 wRC+ from the position.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 They could with the increased defense, But the lineup loses a .300 hitter they can't really replace.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Probably not too hard to find a leftie to bat against righties exclusively at the DH position and put up 1.5 WAR 141 WRc+ hitters don't grow on trees, Platoon or not.
nmrch Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 141 WRc+ hitters don't grow on trees, Platoon or not. We should be careful with using platoon split numbers in season long sample sizes, they can be highly misleading. His career wRC+ against righties is 128 in about 2800 PA's, that's much more relevant in predicting what he'll do in the future. 128 wRC+ sounds nice but its thoroughly replaceable when you're talking about platoon DH only bat.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Ewww. That's two pure DH's who just to maybe get a 110 wRC+ from the position. It's either that or EE at DH and Smoak at 1B. Considering we have too many guys right now, I doubt it's not one or the either.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 AA will despair us all into loving his ungodly platoons.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Going to be weird seeing Lind on a different team.. Early on its looking like we lose lind, and melky and have gained Estrada, soak, dirks and Hendricks? Far too early for the panic button but meh

Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I just have this feeling AA is going to blow his wad on Asdrubel Cabrera and call it a day. He likes Latinos and he likes to put all his eggs in as few baskets as possible. Would probably fill in the rest of the roster from waiver claims from now until next year. Asdrubal would be a welcome addition.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Just as long as its not the only one. At this point add Asdrubal, add a solid RP and find a legit CF and I think this team contends for the division.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 At this point add Asdrubal, add a solid RP and find a legit CF and I think this team contends for the division. Gose can handle centre if they get something good in left.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Gose can handle centre if they get something good in left. Gose is a platoon player.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 The bet meat? I'll bet you that Goins will put up the same WAR or better in 2015, IF HE STARTS AT LEAST 96 GAMES, than Lind's 1.5 WAR in 2014.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Yappers not willing to back up the talk it seems. If you had any resemblance of a normal life, you would understand that it's impossible to be on this board constantly. Don't feel bad, you're not the only one by a long shot.

GNick49 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I bet Happ be traded for 2b. Jays will have a Dirks/Mayberry platoon in lf, Smoak DH, Gose/Pillar platoon in cf, Sanchez to rotation, Estrada swingman for next year
shortstop Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Trading Lind needed to be done...and reality is Estrada was what the market offered. That's not a knock on AA but just the way it is. Give me Estrada & say the $2.5m savings on say another reliever, I'd rather have that then Lind. But will say the move makes much more sense once AA is able to fill out the lineup...
wamco Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 He hit .320, so runner on second he was literally the best option. Those walks are why he hit .320, can't hit bad pitches and expect good results. As great as his 320 avg and 380 obp was last year, let's not forget he is 31 and his career avg and obp are 273/327
flafson Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I'm betting we are going to miss him.
