kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Another trade almost has to happen I think. Right now we have the following rotational depth: Dickey, Buehrle, Stroman, Hutch, Happ, Estrada, Hendricks, Sanchez, Nolin, and Norris. I'm not sure if I left anyone else out, but I think rotation wise we are in great shape and could definitely part with one arm now. Maybe even two if we get an upgrade to the rotation. Not surprised at this move at all . As I had posted I expected Lind and Buehrle to be moved. AA will really be in trouble dollars wise if Melky accepts the QO . Estrada just adds starting depth till the kids are ready. The only thing that surprised me was the AA quote that they were either trading Lind or buying him out. That tells me the budget is really tight. He must really have pissed off management/ownership when he shot off about no commitment to win. Rogers does not like negative publicity especially when they are getting AA to lie about budget and garnering a lot of heat over it. Still waiting for AA to talk about wanting to improve the team speed , defense, and bull pen. I believe that will be the excuse for not filling holes.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Estrada is basically the replacement for Buerhle when he gets traded knowing our FO we'll trade buehrle + cash for soria or some s***
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Why do people think Buehrle will get traded? As good as he was in 2014, he makes nearly $20M in 2015. That won't be easy to move. It would be more logical to trade Happ and then slide Estrada into the 5th starter role. At least then you are keeping the better starter (Buehrle), hopefully saving some money, and not losing much (going from Happ to Estrada). Going from Buehrle to Estrada is a 3 win drop. I think even AA would know how foolish that is.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 http://i58.tinypic.com/2yozdya.jpg You don't have Smoak and Dirks in there. With Arb awards your probably looking somewhere around 135 mil.US. That is without Melky. Probably add about 6 mil for exchange rate as long as they hedged at a good rate. All that and holes in the BP and OF and 2nd . Not hard to think that a contract like Buehrle,s has to go.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Wonder if we could trade Reyes, and just pay $22 mil to the team taking him this year. Be nice to start fresh without that contract in 2016.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 i want Reyes gone before pitching is removed from this team even it cost 6-8 million a year I still think it is a win! Nets us 14-16 mill a year going forward without him!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I am not sure if this was already posted as I am not scrolling through the last 10 pages of this thread but could Estrada's value be even lower since he had Lucroy catching him in MIL? Going from one of the best framers to one of the worst seems like there is a strong possibility that his numbers will decline even further. This trade and the Hendricks trade seems like the Jays are going to move Happ or Buehrle. Trying to build rotation depth so they can ship one of those arms out. Even if thats the case I still hate this trade.

Not hard to think that a contract like Buehrle,s has to go. Who do you replace Buehrle with, though? When you are slashing payroll and trying to win at the same time (which I'm assuming is AA's goal...hard to tell with the moves he is making), then it is best to trade replaceable expensive players rather than expensive players that will be near impossible to replace without spending more money. The only exception to that would be Reyes since his contract is so bad that trading him will help short and long-term, but Buehrle is harmless with a one year commitment. I hope AA has enough common sense not to trade him, unless he has a back-up plan that can throw 200 IP (in other words, not Estrada).
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I'll bet you that Goins will put up the same WAR or better in 2015, IF HE STARTS AT LEAST 96 GAMES, than Lind's 1.5 WAR in 2014. *crickets*
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 *crickets* in today's episode of "things that will never happen"
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Goins won't start 96 games. Don't be to quick there King! He just might after Reyes gets traded just saying. Beware the Fat Greek! Lol
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Bautista and Burlehy for Taijuan walker, Chris Taylor, Patrick Kivelhan and Tyler Pike! Goins wont start 96 games if we have Chris taylor at shortstop! Lol! lmfao
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Who is the new pitcher your trading with Bautista never heard of him!
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Yea, I just quickly dropped the declined contracts from the 2014 list, I haven't dropped all the 40 man guys too. But since Dirks and Smoak are simply arb players, it wont impact the committed salaries at this point. I just went back to MLBTR,s offseason outlook and using their projections of Arb awards the jays are somewhere around 126 million not 135. Now I expect some subtractions from that but there will also be some AAA signings like Jeff Francis which should be close to a wash. That said the difference between the canadian dollar year to year is substantial. Say the Jays hedged last year at 95 cents and this year at 90 cents that is probably somewhere around 6 mil. more this year than last year.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Goins won't start 96 games. I guess that's why i included the all important "IF"..
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I guess that's why i included the all important "IF".. what's the point of a bet if action is 99% unlikely
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 So no bet? Ok i'll try to make this a little easier for you, since you keep spinning your yarn like an old f***ing woman. IF,and i mean IF, Ryan f***ing Goins somehow starts 96 games next year, he'll put up the same if not more of a WAR value in 2015 than Lind's WAR value in 2014, which was 1.5. Simple enough? Put your money where your big f***ing mouth is,and that goes for the rest of the little hyenas.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 what's the point of a bet if action is 99% unlikely So then i guess just doing it shouldn't be an issue?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Lind for Estrada.. yes, it's a bad trade.. but only if he's used as a starter. Although even as a reliever, AA may have been gipped on that trade.. hopefully, if he trades Happ, he'll get better and more assets than he got for Lind. However, despite Lind's strong numbers, he did that all against RHP. Brewers are desperate for a 1B.. neither Reynolds or Overbay cut it. And Lind may be platooned in Milwaukee as well with someone such as Jason Rogers.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 There is no point, Goins won't start 96 games. Pussy answer and you know it. You guys are all full of s***.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 There is no point, Goins won't start 96 games. Don't forget we have Izturis returning next season. And I imagine AA is looking hard for help.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Welcome back jaysfan2014. Thanks for the reminder! You're welcome. BTW, I have mixed feelings on the Lind/Estrada trade. But he could be a decent reliever if he's used in that role instead of a starter, likely replacing what we had with McGowan and Morrow, who didn't get their options picked up, especially considering Morrow doesn't deserve $10M and likely will end up taking a incentives deal with someone like the Padres, Astros or some other rebuilding team hoping to build his value back up. As for Lind, he was good for the Jays.. but $7.5M for a platoon player is way too much.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 This troll job isn't quite subtle enough for your style. Estrada's not going to start unless there's a ton of injuries. As it stands, the rotation is: Dickey Buehrle Stroman Hutchison Happ AAA/bullpen(starters only): Sanchez, Norris, Nolin, Graveman, Francis, Hendriks(Francis will not likely see the rotation, as he's AAA filler.) Hendriks is a tough call.. he's out of options, though he might clear outright waivers. Of course, there's still the chance Happ is traded.. we'll see what happens.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Ah well, at least the Raps are on tonight to numb the pain. s***** coaching, isolation-driven offense in the era of ball movement, and bricked free throws... this is the team that's supposed to "numb the pain" of the Jays?
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Keep in mind that the Jays get a large amount of their "official" revenue in USD (possibly half). I would suggest it is at most 30 % Rogers portion of the TV revenue won't be in USD. Also keep in mind major league salaries are just a portion of the teams costs. The 6 mil is just and est others have suggested . It may be more . Hopefully it is a lot less but I think that is a good # to use. Nobody but AA Beeston and Pelly know how much the jays have to spend. I just believe it is going down.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Ifs and buts, were candy and nuts? I'm not making that bet, meat. It'll never happen, I'll bet you 50 bucks Goins doesn't start 96 games, you stunned f***ing asshat?! Your a pussy fart. If you're so sure Goins won't start 96 games, then the bet will be void anyway.
