Looks like Rays' foundation is falling apart. Good news for Jays fans. Sad to see for Rays fans, though. They had a nice run if it is, indeed, over.

or...as the Toronto Gibby-Worshipping media will tell you...Managers don't make much of a difference.

GM's and managers can be replaced. Their skillsets aren't as rare as good players.

Rays ownership just needs to make the right hire at the top although there is definitely a chance that they are unable to do that.

I agree that the GM/Mgr Skillset is not as rare as elite level players, but it looked like the Rays caught lightning in a bottle there for a while with Sternberg/Friedman/Maddon, winning on a shoestring budget.

This is true, but a good GM is much harder to replace than a good manager IMO. That being said, the Rays organization has to be s***ing bricks right now.

Maddon is good, but it obviously won't sting nearly as much as losing Friedman. It took wizardry to make that team competitive year in and year out with a bottom 5 payroll every year.

I wonder if the Rays bench coach will be the new manager. He seems like a good candidate to replace Maddon. I wonder where Maddon is going if LA is sticking to Mattingly.

I wonder if Minnesota will be giving him a call.

Wondering the same. I bet the bench coach (forget his name) follows Maddon though. However, maybe this is his chance to be Manager and he takes it.

Maddon will sign with the Dodgers and then an hour later FireAlexAnthopoulos will bash Rogers for not beating their offer.

Dave Martinez. He's turned down numerous managerial jobs to stay as bench coach. The Job will be his if he wants it.

Heyman now saying hes not going to the Dodgers.

Guess he's leaving the sinking ship that is Tampa Bay, with ownership looking set to blow up the team with no new stadium on the horizon and declining attendance, making it meaningless to even put a decent team on the field or spend money.

Wonder what Shea Hillenbrand would say about this?

An unconfirmed rumour at exec levels of baseball has Joe Maddon going to the Cubs.

Not a bad landing spot. That team looks poised to emerge in 2015, with a few additions in pitching, and the rise of prospects Addison Russell, Javier Baez, Jorge Soler and Kris Bryant.

Lol @ lightning in a bottle, they made the playoffs 4 times in the last 7 years

Yeah Gibby is just as good. Sure he makes stupid bullpen decision, pinch running errors that cost us the game later in the day,

But Gibby is ours, and as such we need to support him. Replacing him with a success proven manager is not an option

Maddon is a proven manager, he has led teams to the playoffs 4 times, including a world series appearance. He will be successful other places as well. love this guy as a manager,

But the jays are commited to Gibby. Sure Gibby has been a .500 manager for 6-7 years, but Gosh Darnit, Managers don't matter.

Maddon's gonna get his deserved pay day. Won't be in Toronto with Gibby around & unlikely Jays would throw $'s at a manager right now even if Gibby wasn't

Yep the team is coming of a very successful 83-79 winning year. No need to change course

Maddon probably already knows where he'll be managing next year. The Blue Jays don't need a different manager anyway, they need better players.

I am in mourning at this point...but I've always said a manager doesn't mean much to a team. Maddon was one of the few player draws that Tampa had. Even the platoon guys they often attract might be more difficult to sign there this year.

I think it's the Cubs.

I can't imagine anyone has ever typed/said that before...

Yep, if only they'd had Maddon to lead them to a stellar 77-85 record this year...

Not a huge loss really. They'll hire someone smart and open-minded, a pool from which not too many other teams like to draw from.

Losing Friedman was a much bigger blow.
