jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Hmmm Lester + Gomes for Yoenis Cespedes.?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 ChrisCotillo now #RedSox just traded Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes to #Athletics for Yoenis Cespedes, per @alexspeier
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 shittt that's a lot for 3 months. Cespedes only has 9 months left and is a little overrated as a player.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 shittt that's a lot for 3 months. Yoenis Cespedes is only under contract till 2015 though.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Cespedes only has 9 months left and is a little overrated as a player. Yup.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Guys, Lester is a much better player than Cespedes and the A's are only giving up one additional year of control. He has a special type of contract that lets him become a free agent after next season. This makes some sense.
Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 well there goes the prices for price and hamels
fireballW Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Like this move by the As. They can survive without Cespedes and want to finally win that world series.
labadee Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Yoenis Cespedes is only under contract till 2015 though. ahh, didn't know that. thanks
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Oh I didn't know he only had 1 year left. I swear I thought he had like 2-3 OK well it's not as bad then.

If he was just some prospect who came up regularly through the system and put up the same type of numbers he wouldnt have so much hype around him.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Cespedes Earliest Arb Eligible: 2016, Earliest Free Agent: 2018

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I thought cespedes was a free agent in 2018. Do these Cuban free agents not have to adhere to the same 6 years ML service for free agency?

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 merged the other thread with this one. would rather have a separate thread for a trade of this magnitude
snowmagician Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Cespedes numbers should improve at Fenway.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I thought cespedes was a free agent in 2018. Nope! He negotiated a special type of contract that lets him avoid the arbitration/six-year FA process. He's a good player, sure, but the A's have a lot of other useful players they can now mix-and-match with in LF.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 This is probably thread worthy. Well...it is thread worthy. we dont need new threads for every deal. people were talking more about it in the consolidated thread. just easier to keep it to one.
