jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Lester to O's talk pretty dead: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/baseballinsider/sources-orioles-pursuing-red-sox-ace-jon-lester-blog-entry-1.1885872 UPDATED, 7:22pm The Orioles and Red Sox, engaged in talks on Lester this afternoon, no longer appear to be a trade fit, according to people briefed on the discussions. Though the teams were "definitely" talking, as one source put it, a deal was never close. The reason? The Orioles, who just received news that top pitching prospect Hunter Harvey will miss the rest of the year with an elbow injury, did not want to meet Boston's reasonable asking price by giving up additional top prospects for Lester. No way Baltimore makes a deal now when their depth is compromised.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Basically North American knockoffs of Belgian Whites and not a bad way to get used to the style, especially when they are on tap. I'd recommend trying Cheval Blanc from Montreal if you come across it and Hoegaarden, if only because it's the template for all the rest (although there's debate about whether it still tastes the way it did originally or whether it has essentially become a knock-off of itself). I had Hoegaarden a few years back and liked it. Never tried Cheval Blanc however.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I like Rickards white. It was something I didn't take to at first, but after purchasing a few taster packs I have taken a liking to it. Just had a couple this past weekend actually. I agree it is almost the same beer. A decent summer beer I would say. LOL. Rickards is basically Molson Canadian with stronger colour.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Shock top is pretty good. Definitely out of a glass with a slice of orange if you've got it. I could make my own orange juice thank you very much...

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 LOL. Rickards is basically Molson Canadian with stronger colour. As I mentionned earlier, Rickard's White is literally Pale Moon under a different brand. Created in the U.S. by Coors.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Good. If Baltimore gets Lester that would be devastating for the Jays. Glad talks have slowed down.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 It's crazy to give up top prospects for twomonth rentals True, but teams do it all the time. Glad AA isn't willing to part with top prospects for such short term rentals.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Marlins making a move #Marlins may be making first deal. Domingo German (pitching prospect) and 1B Mark Canha pulled from minor league games tonight. (SG)

So if a short term rental is the difference between finishing 2 games back of the division, and winning the division, and getting a chance at the world series, That means nothing to you. I think that people need to re-examine their viewpoints. Organizations should never operate on absolute If the price for Lester is too high = understood But there is such a thing as overreaction. Playoff means something, especially when a team hasn't been to the playoffs for 20 years. Especially when its a potential shot at the World series.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I'm trying to save every soul I can from bad beer. I like Rickard's Red. Is it more acceptable than White?

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Rickards Red is easily a top 3 for me. The white isn't bad, but thats more of a personal choice if you like sweet tasting beer or not
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Yes. Rickards Red is bomb. Not according to Jaysblue.

snowmagician Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Lester is the kind of pitcher that this team needs. Orioles and Jays are evenly matched. However a Lester gives us a huge advantage. I wouldn't deal anyone of the mlb roster but if a deal like Norris + Millar then that's an acceptable price.

I meant to say Pillar. At the end of the day there are other options of improvement that this team desperately needs like a veteran reliever a right handed bat and another starter Colon is another option. Sooner or layer Stroman is going to hit the rookie wall. Hutchinson looks like he is already tired I don't expect the Jays to compete next year. The Yankees and Redsox will be much improved. The rays will be healthy and iny opinions Orioles have more younger talent then the Jays. Veterans will be 1 year older and it will be another 5 to 10 years before this team comes close to sniffing a playoff spot again
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I get not wanting to give a ton of prospects but if all that is holding the Jays back is adding $$$, that is horse s***. THIS IS THE WINDOW!!!!!!!!!!
