burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Wow Big News. Red Sox rotation looks pretty thin next year but they can get some good prospects back with Lester and Lackey being dealt. That can change this offseason with so many prospects they can trade.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Looking thin right now but that doesn't mean much, they will spend as needed, rotation will probably be better than ever next year. Boston needs more than just arms.. they need a lot of bats as well, as their offense is near the bottom of the AL, just ahead of Seattle. And outside of Scherzer, Lester and Shields, the remaining crop is a mixed bag. And it's questionable if Boston wants to spend a ton of money on pitching with so many young arms in their system, especially when they need bats.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 jonmorosi Sources: Indians have discussed Asdrubal Cabrera with Blue Jays and Giants this week. Not clear if either deal is viable now.
bzapple Verified Member Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Sounds like the Cubs are actually going to get value back for Emilio Bonifacio. I know he's been decent this year but still it just seems wrong.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 What about Owens, De La Rosa, Workman, Barnes, Ranaudo, Webster, etc.? All good prospects but there is a lot of question marks since no one has really done anything in the MLB and been successful.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 How good would Brendan McCarthy look in a Jays uniform? Its too bad the Yankees got him for nothing as he would be the perfect guy to trade for right now.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I have a feeling something big is going to happen with the Jays. Just a feeling, so it means nothing, lol.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Maybe indigestion This is possible. I'm in tremendous pain tonight after injuring my leg so it might be all the drinks I've had to calm myself.

Had a few glasses of wine as well to warm me up. Shocktop is LaBatt/Budweiser's answer to Molson/Coors' Rickard's White/Pale Moon (which are the exact same beer btw). If memory serves me right it's slightly better but I never made a straight up comparison and it's been awhile since I had it.

It was something I didn't take to at first, but after purchasing a few taster packs I have taken a liking to it. Just had a couple this past weekend actually. I agree it is almost the same beer. A decent summer beer I would say.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Down years and injuries contributed to that. Huge believer in Bogaerts' bat, despite his struggles this year. I think you'll see a break out from him. Holt Pedroia Bogaerts Ortiz Napoli Victorino Betts Middlebrooks Vazquez JBJ, Nava, Cecchini in the mix They really only need one big bat to make that a likely filthy lineup. If they add another above average one on top of that, they'd probably be the class of the AL, again. Sign a vet catcher to split time with Vazquez until Swihart is ready. Again, without re-signing Lester, and without reworking Lackey (assuming they deal him), they have about $66M in payroll room, if they only duplicate this year's payroll (no increase) And they have the organizational depth to make moves to bring in "cost effective" players in a trade, too (Stanton types). They're seemingly reluctant to hand out long-term deals, but they could "easily" go get 3 of HRamirez, NCruz, Shields, Masterson, Hardy, etc. ... if they wanted to, as well. And that lineup you suggest is the worst in the AL. Middlebrooks has been injury and strikeout prone, and falling out of Boston's plans. Cecchini has regressed significantly with the bat in AAA. Betts' future role is unclear. Also, Ortiz is going to be 39 in November, and has shown some decline with the bat. Holt is a flash in the pan, as he's regressed heavily post All-Star break (.191/.269/.234), and it's unsurprising Boston has lost 7 of their 8 games. The Red Sox are going have to seek another leadoff option soon, as the league has caught up to Holt. Victorino has injury issues, and Bogaerts, despite his power potential, isn't ready. Han-Ram, Cruz, Shields, Hardy will cost far beyond what Boston can afford, and are likely to get long-term deals that Boston wants to avoid, having been burned on the Crawford and A-Gone deals(only getting bailed out by the Dodgers saved them). And Hanley Ramirez is likely headed to 3B or DH soon, as his range at SS is awful. Hardy's likely headed for the Yankees or back to the Orioles, and Shields isn't really a fit for Fenway due to his HR tendencies. Masterson has regressed a lot.. lucky the Indians were even able to get anything for him. And it's said that Boston wants to avoid giving significant deals to pitchers over 30 because of what's happening in New York. And as for their prospects, it's hard to see whether they pan out.

A decent summer beer I would say. Basically North American knockoffs of Belgian Whites and not a bad way to get used to the style, especially when they are on tap. I'd recommend trying Cheval Blanc from Montreal if you come across it and Hoegaarden, if only because it's the template for all the rest (although there's debate about whether it still tastes the way it did originally or whether it has essentially become a knock-off of itself).
