What if they win 84 games? What happens then?

This team is in purgatory. The upper minors isn't deep enough to supplement the current squad and the current squad is just going to be another year older.

Personally, if this team does't make the playoffs I would get rid of him, because for sure next year would be his last and lame ducky GM's make terrible decisions for the future

I think if they don't reach the post season there's no reason to continue this beaten path, isn't his own self window of contending over with at that point?

if this team legitimately competes for a playoff spot, AA/Beest may get one more crack at the can. If they make the playoffs, they should as well naturally.

but if this team does not compete for a playoff spot & falters down the stretch, then the Beest/AA/Gibby are all likely fair game from Rogers perspective...

and not getting rid of the Beest is unacceptable imo when he's been the main constant for 20+ years...at some point, the Beest has to be held accountable as well, justified or otherwise...

Pretty sure Paul Godfrey has put in as much or more time as team president over the last 20+ years than Beest has. Hardly a constant.

How thin is the ice? Surely he should have sunk by now.

he is pretty fat, maybe it was a bad analogy :P

According to Richard Griffin from the Toronto Star (credibility up for debate) AA needs to win to keep his job.

Just for fun, how many wins would be needed from the Jays to allow AA to "retain" his GM position?

Maybe he is on thin ice.... but Richard Griffin doesn't have any inside track on this.

Beeston hasn't been here for the last 20 years.

Richard Griffin isn't exactly a go-to guy for reliable Blue Jays info. I don't hate the guy and I'll read his stuff, but I certainly don't believe any of the rumours he puts out there. I can't remember him ever having the inside scoop on something before it came out. And let's face it, 99% of the journalists out there put out articles claiming things that they haven't heard from anyone inside the organization, they simply make reasonable assumptions and write about them as though they know something other's don't

Which is why he will use this farm system to get a win now player

There is not a jays rebuild in AAs future

yep, that's wrong, my mistake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Beeston

though he's been with the jays since forever with a break in between as mlb pres...not sure what he did b/w 2002-2008 before becoming pres again in 2009...

he's essentially been with the jays since 1976 including the first employee...he's on the level of excellence...

given my terrible assumption was incorrect :), I don't see the Beest going anywhere...

what's interesting then is the Beest is a huge fan of AA...

He basically just played golf. He didn't even bother to learn to use the Internet despite having nothing but spare time.

Roy Halladay trade 2.0?

Thinking about rebuilt after just two years of Marlins-Jays would be the end of Alex.

Playoffs or bust. But might be able to blame injuries if they are close.

Rogers doesn't give a f*** if he wins as long as they are still making money. This guy is just speculating.

Of course they do if not winning results in less profit.

However many losses it takes to get AA fired, I'm all for it. We need someone like Farhan Zaidi as GM - current assistant GM with the A's, an actual analytics background, and he's also Canadian, which Rogers and the Jays can play up for PR purposes.

AA isn't going any where. Rogers is about TV ratings and $ earned. AA has done a great job on both accounts. The problem is he deviated from his plan and made the Marlins trade causing a fan frenzy and his rebuild took a back seat.
