TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 You ready to fire up the ol' "Fire AA" thread? I've been meaning to add the DFA Valbuena in favour of the Babysitter to that thread anyway. That's the problem with all those relievers on other teams...they never had relieving practice in the minors. AA has a secret weapon. I jest, as this obviously has to do with his pitching limit they put on him...like throwing just 4 innings all those games wasn't controlling his innings. Now the question eventually will end up being asked...why a limit on Sanchez but none on Hutch?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Can drabek even throw a strike? If he can't find the plate he's useless. Drabek has walked just 13 in his last 49 minor league innings (35 K's over the same period). Drabek to the pen is an experiment that actually makes sense.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Agree ! If we use Sanchez it should be as a starter because we turfed Happ or demoted or traded him!

[/quote perhaps they just want to see him at the big league level to see how he handles his emotions at this level ahead of the trade deadline. This is the quickest way to get him here.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I get that but then throw him to the fire starters got to start! See Stroman! Lol Or what would Happ say to that! Lol
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Wow some of the overreaction here is extreme. He gets called up to the Bisons and somehow that translates to the Jays bull pen because a blogger says it *could happen? And somehow that turns this to a fire AA post? The reality is that Sanchez isn't ready for the big time but maybe a change of scenery will put some spark in him.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 MAybe they see him as closer material to replace Janssen next year? Be like Rosenthal in St.Louis.

Now Blair isn't exactly Rosenthal but I think he can legitimatelly be called a reporter. And he's not just reporting on the fact that he's with the Bisons (which is nothing new) but the fact that he's been transferred to the Bisons bullpen for the purposes of the callup. Now maybe Blair is full of s***. That's possible but you're stretching the truth a fair bit to make that point.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Holy f***......for the last time, IT WAS PLANNED!! Guess the song thread Liar, lawyer, mirror, show me what's the difference? Kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Aaron Sanchez debut IP, 3 hits, 2 ER, 2 K{s
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I can't link quotes from the Jays talk from the Suns paper, I've already tried searching, take my word or don't, Eliott has both Gibby and AA quoting this all season. There was also an article on "the plan" where Sanchez said he didn't care, about relieving to help the Jays by a local NH or Buffalo affiliate, I can't find it, although I know Norris is next and AA referred to the Cards, believe me or not, IDGAF!!! Just f***ing around with you bud. Now accept my trade offer.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 At least he didnt walk anybody, he also threw 17 of 26 pitches for strikes. 17/26 = +35 balls
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 What was Sanchez's IP limit this season? He had 86 IP in 2013 and was at 98 coming into tonight. Anyway...
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Aaron Sanchez debut IP, 3 hits, 2 ER, 2 K{s just checked...first hit by shane victorino was a ground ball single. 2nd batter struck out. Travis shaw then had a ground ball single to left and Glenn's throwing error allowed vicotrino to score and shaw to get to third when he should have been at first. Carlos Rivero hit a line drive single and scored the runner and then the next batter struck out and the last batter struck out. There should have only been one run scored if not for Glenn's throwing error. 3 singles..2 of the ground ball variety. 17/26 were strikes, 2 ks....sounds like it really wasn't that bad of inning after all.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Also, Victorino and Shaw are MLB level hitters, fwiw.

Yeah but the real jays do s*** like this all the time to.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 Also, Victorino and Shaw are MLB level hitters, fwiw. And it's one inning, from the bullpen or not
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 That doesn't make any sense, since he only K'ed 2 and you have 3 Ks listed, and if the run wouldn't have scored without the error, it would be an unearned run (recreate the inning sans error). When did he pitch? The game's actually on NESN here and I missed him throwing (only watched an inning or two here and there). Watching Fatty McFatster Zagurski getting hammered, with Drabek warming up. I did indeed type an error...I should have typed the next batter struck out and the following one lined out. Thanks for noticing.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Just checked myself ... From the description, the last out was a line out, and potentially what could have happened with the throw is that the runner may have advanced to 2nd on the throw, and taken 3rd due to the error, so it was determined he would have scored on the subsequent single. Don't know for sure, though. whatever happened, three singles rarely result in 2 runs. 2 of the singles were ground balls that found the hole. Angrioter posted 3 hits, 2 earned runs. I thought ahh..crap...not a great outing...but when you looked I actually looked at it there were no doubles a throwing error and 2 of the 3 hits were ground balls. That's not a bad outing at all. It was an unlucky outing. If the kid throws strikes, he will be fine.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 The problem is HE CAN'T THROW STRIKES. 17 of his 26 pitches were for strikes. Someone posted that he has had 5 walks in his last 20 innings which is good. Do you really believe that he can never improve? What do you think he's been doing all year and last year. He's making the adjustments to become a better player. That's what the minors are for. He's 21 years old, not 24 or 25. 21 might seem old to you, but I can assure you it's not. Next outing out he may walk 3 batters...who knows. Time will tell if he's actually improving or just having a decent stretch.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Spanky is right they have always had an undisclosed innings limit on Sanchez. I've read this for months. However I also heard they had one on Hutch, which they seem to be willing to ignore for the sake of big league hope for this year. Why one and not the other? As for those saying this is the Cards method...my joke was about the Jays making the move in the minors like there is some sort of adjustment period moving to the pen. Just let him start with an innings limit in the minors regardless of what you intend to do with him in the majors.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 He's 22. well from briefly glazing over the sacrificing a virgin thread, I assumed he was younger. I guess Mr. King schooled the strawman. Sanchez will never be able to throw strikes. Samardzjia couldn't throw strikes at one point either and he turned out pretty good, but he's likely atypical.

The Blue Jays bullpen has been fine – they rank 16th in baseball in workload and wins above replacement – but a 4.39 ERA for the relief corps, 27th in the league, calls for reinforcements.
