I really wanted McCarthy, but it will be nice to see how his 20% HR/FB on the season takes to that piece of garbage high school ball park.

Towers is really, really good

1) JUpton for Prado+s***

2) Bauer for Didi Gregorius

3) Skaggs+Eaton for Mark "Reynolds" Trumbo

4) Parker+ for Cahill

4) Owings for Deck McGuire?

The only time Kevin Towers will win in a trade is if it's against the Blue Jays. Literally the only good move I can remember him making was Hill, where he flat out raped the Jays. Jays have some lovely f***ing luck.

The hitter decide how hard the ball gets hit, not the pitcher. Hence, hitters control their BABIP while pitchers don't.

How many times do you need to be told this? It's not hard to understand.

I agree with that statement to a point. Some pitchers will have higher BABIP then others, just like hitters. While hitters can control it better, there are pitchers like Corey Kluber who will have a much higher BABIP than a pitcher like Jared Weaver. Does defence account for some of that? Absolutely but their career performance shows one gives up more hard contact than the other.

lol really? So a AA pitcher who gets called up should have the same BABIP as the best pitcher in the MLB? Ok then.

Now that the McCarthy/Prado option is gone, AA needs to get on the phone in pursuit of Kennedy/Headley. The Padres have a s***** GM situation as well, and maybe there's a chance to exploit it. I still prefer Prado to Headley, but I feel like two separate trades always cost more than getting two guys in one trade.

He's 3rd in xFIP in the National League, and 7th in the entire MLB. McCarthy is a great starter. Yankees stole him from the Diamondbacks.

They did steal him, not denying that. I would have loved to see the Jays trade Jenkins for him. But I don't consider McCarthy one of the best pitchers in baseball.

McCarthy probably is not one of the best pitchers in baseball going forward, but there's no denying he has been to date. Santosesque peripherals.

We are talking about Alex.

Kennedy/Headley/Ace reliever

I've said McCarthy has been a very good pitcher this season, though I have to disagree on him being one of the best pitchers in baseball to date. It's absurd to rank him in a tier with Tanaka, Kershaw, Felix, Wainwright, Sale etc.

Sure. Let's get Benoit as well.

Tbf, I don't think "Santos-esque" helps your argument.

I don't have an argument in this string of posts! Was just pointing out that McCarthy has been very good in the first half.

Yeah it's a semantics thing. He's a step below those guys for sure.

Vidal Nuno BABIP: .301

Clayton Kershaw BABIP: .294

Would have taken 30 seconds or less to avoid looking like an idiot.

Roberto Hernandez is even lower than Kershaw at .288! What a goddamn stud.

Throughout the history of the game, position players who have pitched in blowouts have a league average BABIP. So, there's that.

I guess their slop is just really good at inducing WEEK KONTAKT

Lets tap the brakes here too though. He's generating a below average number of swings and misses. We shouldn't expect him to strike out 7.6 going forward.

He's a good pitcher but he's nowhere near the upper echelon.

Oh FFS what a f***ing idiot Towers is, and he eats part of the salary as well, not like the Yankees have ever cared about money, less so to rape another GM in a deal. This is unbelievable, I bet Cashman is getting s***-faced as we speak.

I would be pretty pissed if I was a Diamondbacks fan.

Honestly you probably wouldn't be cause you'd just see him getting hit every start. As much as the advanced stats show he'll be better than what he was...they also said that last year. He gives up a shitload of line drives (more than flyballs this year). I am not disputing the move itself but I'd guess that D-Back fans are generally just happy to get rid of him...he's likely in need of a change of scenery. The Yanks should get his change up back into the repertoire, it was a good pitch at one time but the A's had him abandon it.

f*** it let's get it done

Price and Zobrist for Snachez, Norris and Pompey.

The Rays wouldn't do that. Besides, Zobrist is their favorite player.

I like McCarthy not as much as you guys apparently. But I would I hope our sights are much higher. Hes an upgrade over Happ who hasn't exactly killed us. Aim higher please AA.

*sigh*

Ian Kennedy.

He's a free agent at the end of the year (satisfies AA's wish to get a rental), on a $6.1M deal (low prorated cost, very little payroll implication), acting like one of the best pitchers in the game (12h in the majors with a 2.88 xFIP) playing for the team that just extended Seth Smith on a two year contract (lol Padres), while being 9.5 games back (lol Padres), AFTER they fired their GM (lol Padres), who also employ Chase Headley (who fills the infield need, makes just 10.5M, and is also a free agent after 2014)

It's such a no-doubter.

IIRC, i believe he has 1.5 years of control?

Actually you're right, he has an extra year of arbitration remaining. Makes him that much more of a strong target.

Would like very much. Probably are best option right now. Question is who will they remove from the rotation? Remember they love Happ.

Preferably Dickey. Probably Happ.

Nobody cares if they "love Happ", they've been pursuing a starting pitcher for a long time, and nobody is dumn enough to move Hutch or Stroman out of the rotation right now. Happless is the odd man out.

This. If you think McCarthy is going to come to the AL east and be the key for this team to take it to the next level that's absurd. McCarthy would be about as marginal of an upgrade as you could get and even that is questionable. The Yankees had a bigger need for pitching so even a guy like McCarthy is considered an upgrade for them, as sad as that is.

LMAo he gets hit hard in the NL......it will be worse in the AL, he has not been one of the best pitchers in the NL not even close. Santos has been crap, not exactly helping your argument.

McCarthy is insignificant and would be to the Blue Jays team also. The Yanks are eating salary and can afford to add just about anyone they want and then still add more.

Myth. One of the worst habits of the stats crowd these days is to overestimate what they can do with stats, and the danger in doing that is you lose

common sense and miss all other information.

So true.
