imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Only a moron could "completely" waste their time on a piece like that, because anyone with half a wit would know whether or not it's something that entertains them after the first paragraph. So you either read the whole thing, at which point the only person to blame for that "wasted time" is you, and I'd wonder why exactly you kept reading, or you're implying that your life is busy and occupied enough that even reading that first, small satirical blurb about Brady Aiken was enough to "waste your time". Which, let's face it, is just not true, because if it was, you wouldn't actually have the time to voice your displeasure about it on a forum. So uhh.. congratulations on forcing yourself to sit and read through a fairly long piece of writing, that at no point entertained you, but for whatever reason, kept you reading. Thanks for this post
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I started the Pentecost bandwagon and the SRF name bandwagon. My life is complete. I have validation on a message board.
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 It's not me King. As a senior in HS I can't imagine turning down $1mm...to play baseball everyday as a job.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 He called about 99% of the picks horrible. Ha that was the idea
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Sounds suspicious. I wouldn't have an account on that s*** hole for that embarrassment of a team.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 http://i.imgur.com/cZ1WbbD.png So lets add "math" to things that Matt Harvey doesn't quite get.
8D Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I still can't believe SRF fell to us and appears to have signed for a decent price. I just don't understand why no one took him sooner. Hopefully kind of like Aaron Sanchez. A pitcher everyone loved and projected to go really high, but for some reason teams passed up on. Signed fast and signed around slot.
admin Site Manager Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Anymore s***ing in this thread = 3 day ban.
8D Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Great draft by the Jays. Might end up being the best team to come out of this class. And it really does look like they do target more or less injured pitchers to sign them at discounted deals banking on the advancement of medicine and saving up change from other picks to go after bigger risks/higher reward type players. And I didn't mean to s*** on you Gibbers. I was just curious. My bad if you felt that way.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Maybe its a good thing we don't know the numbers of what guys signed for. It definitely takes away leverage for the guys that have not yet signed.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 big money. I wonder what Hoffman and Penecost are signing for.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 They probably have a clause saying if there is slot money left, they get more.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 wow that is a lot of money. Hopefully Hoffman and Pentecost sign a decent amount underslot so we have a chance with some of the post 10th round overslot guys.
Jaysfan_85 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I just hope the whole targeting pitchers with mechanic/injury issues doesn't keep biting us in the ass. It seems like most of the young pitchers we call up suffer constant arm issues.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 The Blue Jays announced today that they’ve agreed to terms with fifth-round pick Lane Thomas, and MLB.com’s Jim Callis tweets that Thomas will earn a hefty $750K bonus. That’s more than double the $343K value of Thomas’ No. 144 overall selection. Thomas, a Tennessee commit, wasn’t ranked among MLB.com’s Top 200 draft prospects or the Top 100 of ESPN’s Keith Law, but Baseball America considered him the No. 172 prospect in this year’s draft class. BA praised the high school shortstop/center fielder’s athleticism, noting that many scouts believe he’s a true center fielder with plus speed once he’s underway. Others feel that his strong arm and athleticism will lend well to playing in the infield, per BA’s report. In his tweet, Callis noted that the Tennessee high schooler has solid “all-around tools.” At $9,458,500, the Blue Jays possess Major League Baseball’s fourth-largest bonus pool this year (as reported by BA’s J.J. Cooper in April), and they figure to save some money after drafting Tommy John victim Jeff Hoffman with the ninth overall pick. Hoffman, once considered a slam-dunk Top 5 talent in the draft, slipped due to his injury and isn’t likely to require the full $3.08MM value of the No. 9 overall slot in order to sign.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 What are the rules with regards to not signing a first round pick, do the jays have to offer a certain amount of allotted slot money to this years picks in order to get a first rounder next year if the player declines to sign? Or can they just not offer anything and retain the pick for next year?

Or can they just not offer anything and retain the pick for next year? Yeah I don't think they have to offer jack s***. The 11th pick has only one more year of protection left. 9th has 2. It would behoove them to sign both immediately seeing as both can in the majors in 2 years.

Ok, thanks, I thought I read somewhere that a certain amount of the slot money had to be offered in order to qualify for the following years pick, and I agree, Jays should lock up both asap as both are great talents.

flafson Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 They need to offer 40% of slot value to get a pick next year.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 The rule was changed a couple of years ago to give 2 years protection. The 11 pick is protected this year
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Nick J. Faleris 2:49 Toronto Blue Jays select Sean Reid-Foley (RHP, Sandalwood (Jacksonville, FL)) What's to like? I was flummoxed as to why Reid-Foley fell as far as he did the first day of the draft, and was even more so confused when I learned that the biggest concern was down velocity in his final showing before the draft. Reid-Foley was one of the most consistent performers at the prep ranks over the last twelve months, and prior to that final outing this spring was being linked to teams as high as the mid-first round. Some teams have concerns with the arm action, while others point out his athleticism and the likelihood that the arm could be easily cleaned-up with a few small mechanical tweaks that could improve his timing. After balancing ceiling and floor with Jeff Hoffman and Max Pentecost, respectively, in their first two picks, the Blue Jays snatched up a third potential top 15 talent in the draft class with pick number three. There were other high upside arms available, and even arms that will likely cost less in the way of up-front investment, but no one that has the combination of performance track record and well-rounded present arsenal of Reid-Foley. It was aggressive, but responsibly so, and that's exactly how you want to spend your picks when you are fortunate enough to hold more high leverage opportunities than other drafting orgs.
