Let's use an example which doesn't end in s: What's your favourite boxing moment? What's your favourite boxing's moment? What sounds right? Haha yes the one with no apostrophe.
TobiasFunke Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Long time lurker on this and the clusterf*** old forum, but thought I could chime in here. I wouldn't say this is my favourite moment per se, but it was basically the start of my Jays fandom. I was only about 8 years old, so the memory is kind of hazy, but we made a big comeback in the '98 or '99 season at home against the Royals I believe. I think what really resonated with me was both the crowd and Shulman's excitement. I'm hoping I'm not overstating the magnitude, but I'll try to find the box score on B-R.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 watching 93 world series game at 4 in the morning and the satellite coverage died in a freak snow storm and I had to call my parents for $1.70 a minute to get play by play while I waited for it to come back on the tv again.
The_DH Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Definitely the Carter home run and realizing what just happened. Almost surreal. Next is the drive of 85, George Bell's catch.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 The Carter home run. I was 8, and watched the game on TV. I do wish I were more able to appreciate what had truly happened in that moment, but I was happy for my Jays, for sure. Watching the video today gives me chills. What a moment. Also, the Brandon Morrow 1-hitter, 17K complete game shutout is one of the best pitching performances of all-time - it scored a 100 game score rating. Another one, although not a Jays moment, is seeing Roy Halladay pitch the no-hitter in his first ever post-season start. I believe that that was only the third ever post-season no-hitter.

Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I missed the Carter home run as I was coming home from a wedding, so I'll go with the Jays winning the 1992 World Series. I went down to the Dome with my parents, as the game was televised on the Jumbotron. The place was packed, but we got seats on the lower level, near right field. When Carter made the final out, it was pandemonium. Toilet paper was flying from the stands, fans started running on the field. Because the game ended so late, we had to leave pretty quickly to make the train, but I asked my mother if I could go onto the field. Fans were gingerly walking down the steps to climb over the barrier. I was on the field, and tried to soak it in, but felt a little uncomfortable going out to the diamond where everyone was partying, so I went back to my parents, and we went home. Yonge Street was packed. I feel sorry for those young Toronto sports fans who haven't experienced what the city was like when teams were good. To get caught up in the excitement. http://cdn.thegridto.com/wp-content/uploads/635.jpg Second moment would be Alomar hitting the home run to tie game 4 in the 1992 ALCS. This was back when the playoffs coincided with Thanksgiving, so we all rushed from the dinner table to catch the rally. Third would be the Jays winning the 1992 Pennant. The game was on in the afternoon. I ran home from school to find the Jays were in the lead. This was around the time of "Winfield Wants Noise", and you've never heard the dome so loud. The Jays giddy as Henke was on the mound, and finally as the ball was caught. For the longest time the team was known by fans as the "Blow Jays", so it was such a great feeling to seem them get over the hump. It would be so great to go back to those days with the team we have now.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Probably JPA's first game. That was pretty cool.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Touch 'em all Joe, or you're a child
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Joe Carter's home run in 93. He was an all-time Blue Jay great - probably the best player in club history because of that hit. I think most memorable would be a better description than best player in club history. He had the best moment, but he's far from the best player
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted May 30, 2014 Author Posted May 30, 2014 I must say the "month of Edwin" has got to be in my top 10. Just amazing to watch - if he can pass Bonds that would be incredible. For a weekday game the energy was great last night in the Rogers center after that second bomb. Edwin's the easiest guy to like to begin with so watching him crush it like this is so much fun
shortstop Verified Member Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 yeah, that Alomar home run off Eck was a changer - that was, imo, the defining moment when the jays said we're not intimidated & we are the team to beat that carried the rest of the 2012 playoffs & 2013 season...you could see it on the face of Eck - A's went from arrogance to humbled in 1 pitch
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 One of the worst things about last night's game was that it ruined a great play by Bautista. If that play had helped preserve the winning streak, it's quite possibly the highlight of the season and definitely a memorable Jays moment. Instead it will go down as one of the season's best plays but a bittersweet memore for Jays fans because of what followed.
JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I'm guessing for most people it's the Carter home run, and add me to that list as well. But I would also add Stieb's no hitter and Alomar's homerun off Eckersly to the list.
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 While there were definitely more memorable games & better overall performances, I have to go with Lawrie. With the hype surrounding him and within his first week of getting called up, seeing him smash that grand slam and how pumped he got was something I've since rewatched at least a dozen times online.

But I would also add Stieb's no hitter and Alomar's homerun off Eckersly to the list. Stieb's no hitter seemed more of a personal accomplishment. And it was a great one. The Carter homer had wider implications. Carter wasn't the greatest player we had but he was always in the middle of great things. I think overall Robbie Alomar was the greatest player we ever had (during his time here).
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 My favourite moment was the loss last night. Apparently it's the GOAT of all losses.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Joes HR OR When the last out came on Classic 16-15 game in the rain against the Phillies in 93 WS...that was an ugly game but the Jays fought back to win. The game had everything including Stottlemyre bashing his chin in in a slide and a key hit from Henderson who didn't get many for us. OR Timlin flip to Carter on first on Nixon drag attempt to close 92 WS OR Alomar's A's HR Toss up. Hard to pick one. Sorry I cheated.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Joe Carter's home run in 93. He was an all-time Blue Jay great - probably the best player in club history because of that hit. seriously? Hey, we all went nuts over that clutch walk off, but the "best player in club history"?! Guy put up a lifetime .770 OPS and was over rated in my books on O and he was avg at best in OF. Alomar is in the HOF built on his years with us. Molitor had 3 great seasons with us. Jose blows Joe out of the water as a Jays RF. Halladay, Clemens...on and on.

Molitor Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Yeah, it has to be Joe Carter. Henderson drawing a walk. Devo flying out. Molitor with a nice hard single up the middle. I remember off the bat I didn't think Carter's hit was going to be anything close to a homerun, so I was a little bit shocked while my dad and I were jumping up and down. I have to say Dave Winfield's 2-run double the year before in extra innings of game six to make it 4-2 was also great moment. At that point it really started to sink in that we were going to win. Ok, the Braves came back from a 1-run deficit earlier, but were they really going to come back from 4-2? And of course they did make it close. Alomar's homerun against oakland was also great, as was that whole game. I remember Jack Morris sucked ass and put us in a big hole that game, but they battled back well.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Hey guys - remember that game we were down 8-0, and were slowly clawing our way back against the Reds? Kawasaki make a huge morale-boosting defensive stop and then the offense really got on fire and we won 15-9. Best (recent) memory by far.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Forget it, this is the turning point. The Jays will win 120 games this year now, then sweep through the playoffs. It's over. no point in even playing out the rest of the season just name them champs right now.
