Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 You're right I am old, and I did type Sanchez when I meant Santos. f*** me getting old is tough! You young bucks wait until you have a nagging wife yelling at you in the background as you try and type messages. Mental brain farts are bound to happen. I won't even edit the post so everyone can see what a dumb dumb I was. You caught me..lol...and I love Oscar! Marriage is for men that are no longer attractive to women and are desperate to lock down some poor girl to hopefully guarantee themselves 5 mins of boring missionary once or twice a year. All of my friends in committed relationships are absolutely miserable, and carry themselves like resigned, defeated little beta bitches whilst their new mommies dominate them completely. I take their calls less and less these days, mostly to defend my own sanity. Two of them proposed to their girl only AFTER they caught them cheating on them. Rofl says I. And yeah Oscar is great. If I ever get that old, I hope I'm still as big of an ******* as that guy was.

leaffie Verified Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I'm never a fan of being overly optimistic of anything in life. I didn't understand what having the least amount of errors meant? It definitely doesn't mean the best defensive team. Nobody was OVERLY optimistic on this team, including me. But it will certainly be better than what has been forecast on this board. As far as the least amount of errors, I never said it was the best defensive team. But there were posters on this board, that moaned about how bad this team would be defensively. And it has been anything but bad!!!
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 The vast majority of the forum projected a 0.500 team, maybe a couple of games above. It's on pace for 79 wins. To be fair, I think he was talking about the general vibe which I agree with. Most projected around .500 but basically made it seem like they had no chance to contend which is not true.

Yes the vast majority projected a .500 team with that being the best they will achieve. I was one of the few that disagreed. Time will tell. But if I am right, I guarantee that the number slingers will come up with a new projection, that if they had taken a nine year study, they would have been right all along. Numbers never lie. :-)
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Is this a real life post? Let's be honest man, the difference between 71 and 78 isn't that big a deal. Can't blame him for calling you out
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Let's be honest man, the difference between 71 and 78 isn't that big a deal. Can't blame him for calling you out The whole basis of my post was that BTS said this is a .500 team. He meant it in a negative light due to the optimism that was starting to creep in with some after the team won 3 straight games. I spun it around to say BTS had them as a 78 win team and now sees them in a more positive light...man things really are turning around, even BTS is getting more optimistic! Clearly he isn't. I was basically poking fun at BTS saying he was turning into an optimist like me, which clearly is not the case. If I could step in the hot tub time machine and go back 5 hours, I would not make the post, because sometimes the context of your words are difficult to get across on an internet message board. whatever...Go Jays Go!!!!!!!!!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 If the BP never blew all those games recently, likely this team is above .500 right now. Bullpen success varies from year to year since relievers are volatile, so I wouldn't get my hopes up of having an elite pen again, especially if the starters don't pitch deep into games on a consistent basis. Still the BP should be solid and I expect some guys to rebound moving forward.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 0.500 team IMO. They'll have stretches where they look awful and stretches where they look like a playoff team. if they can all get on the same page they could go on a run, but I dont see them having the depth to make a long run. there are ALWAYS injuries and this team has serious depth issues. I'm still hoping for them to surprise, but I wont be heart broken if they end up at .500 as long as the FO doesn't do anything colossally stupid.(again)

I think it is going to be much the same. They will look like world beaters one stretch and they will look like s*** the next. The team has no stability except for Melk and Jose.

(short concentration span) At the end of a day it's all just a game that I enjoy watching and talking about. Good or bad it's all good. It would be nice to see the jays win again in my lifetime, but my life wont be any different either way.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I don't know if this team is good or not. But we are leading the AL East in run differential right now, so we've got that going for us which is nice.

We have very little of that but Francisco or Lind could go, so could Santos or Delabar (but both have dropped their trade value this year), and either of Happ and McGowan. What does that get you? Not what we want (a legitimate SP upgrade or a young talented second baseman). I'd still trade Colby in a package though. That might help matters if someone contending is in need of a CF mid season.

If they're right there in July they will definitely trade for a win now piece, assuming the money available.

Actually buying at the deadline seems kind of likely for this front office. Perfect time to buy.. when prices are at their highest. Why get a front of the rotation starter for 4 prospects when you can get him for 6?

Why get a front of the rotation starter for 4 prospects when you can get him for 6? Actually, players at the deadline are usually cheaper, and the Jays usually don't do much of anything at the deadline. Garza went for what last year ? Soriano ? Feldman ? Everyone went fairly cheap except maybe the Red Sox trade but then they won it all. Jays might actually start contending more if they actually participated in mid season moves. What on earth have they ever done ? They got Rasmus one year, traded Kent for David Cone a hell of a long time ago. Pretty rare they do anything of note. Yankees, Red Sox, pretty rare when they don't do something.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Prices are at their peak and you get the player for a third of the season. Relying on deadline acquisitions is stupid. They simply aren't around long enough to have an impact. http://my.execpc.com/~pjsports/CONE/89AS9.jpg http://www.sportsposterwarehouse.com/catImages/rickey93-1.jpg

Trading for a keeper player is fine. Trading for a rental is usually dumb. With few exceptions.
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Dude, what kind of betas are you associating with? How can these guys even look themselves in the mirror? Did you miss the part where I stated that I avoid them these days? It's sad how much some guys change once they fall under the spell of some wench. Used to be cool guys, the second some girl started giving it up without them having to make an effort, they gave up on themselves. Ugh.

Wtf is this, you're like the third person to try to drag me into their s***? I plainly stated that I'm disgusted by their lack of self-esteem and avoid them these days, yet I'm a loser because of some ex-friends' loserish behaviour? K.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Neither Cone nor Henderson were even good here though. Had they not made the Cone trade they probably still have a WS, and Jeff Kent long-term. Henderson stunk but Cone did have .9 WAR in his brief time here. Pitched okay enough in the playoffs too.
