SantosLHalper21 Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 John Gibbons might be the biggest failure for a manager I've ever seen in my life. He needs to be fired soon and here's why.. -McGowan cruising, serves up a double to Gordon in the 7th and then is yanked in favor of Delabar, who promptly mislocates and gives up a 2-run shot to Perez. -Brings in Cecil and takes him out with two on, in favor of Santos...who promptly gives up a 2 run single to Sal Perez in following inning. -With a lefty at bat, he brings in the useless Esmil Rogers who promptly gives up 3 runs and the once 5-2 lead now turns into a 10-5 deficit in an inning of baseball. Rogers might be the worst option you could bring in..much rather have seen Happ or Loup personally with a lefty at the bat in Aoki. My feelings on what Gibbons should've done... All could've been avoided had he went with Aaron Loup to open the 7th inning to face Gordon (LH), Perez (RH), and Moustakas (LH). What I feel the problem is with the Jays bullpen is that they come in with RISP or with a runner at first. Problem with that is it adds extra pressure. Open the inning with your bullpen Gibbons. If you're not confident in your starter to finish the inning, why not call it 6 IP and bring in Loup to face those guys. Then you go Delabar/Cecil in the 8th depending on where they are in the lineup and then Santos in the 9th. But nope...elects to go McGowan on a short leash and bring in Delabar with a runner at 2nd and the game gets torn out of McGowan's hands...who actually was pretty damn good tonight...too bad Gibbons blew it for him. I knew all was screwed after the reaction by Cecil when he was taken out. Gibbons decisions are now being questioned by the players...at what point do you just fire the man and move on?
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 If/when Gibbons goes, AA has to as well. Can't hire and fire the same manager twice and keep your job. Really don't know what AA was thinking with the hire. Really putting your neck on the line with that hire.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I agree about bringing in relievers to start innings. Gibbons should've taken the 6 innings from McGowan and been happy. I think Loup got up to warm up earlier in the game when McGowan had that iffy inning. Anyway....

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 the entire front office needs to go with him.. send them all to madagascar
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 It goes back to AA though. By having 3 long-relievers, they've weakened the short-relief corps and Gibbons hasn't helped matters with his quick hook. He ended up today with Santos having to get 5 outs to finish off the game and no other high-leverage rh reliever left.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Apparently, Delabar's velocity is down since last August. Who thinks they'll make a bullpen move before tomorrow's game?
SAAviour Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I like gibbons, but this f***ing team needs a message sent...fire the guy and see if the players respond. Will never happen this early with the team 2 games under .500 though.

They should drop Redmond and Rogers and bring up Wagner and Stilson. no use keeping the garbage in the house to wait for it to stink when we already have to plug out noses. they need more pitching more than they need Sierra guarding the Gatorade. why is he still around?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Gibbons is fine. He's not perfect but he's rarely the reason we lose a game.

Stilson 7IP (4.70 K, 8.22 BB, 2.35 HR)/9
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Happ hasn't pitched since April 23rd. Loup hasn't pitched since the 26th. Redmond hasn't pitched since the 25th. Meh, who cares.
SantosLHalper21 Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 I personally think that you look to trade a handful of players such as Gose/Rasmus (make a decision on one of them..which guy is your long term center fielder), Drabek, Happ, Rogers (release?), Lind and possibly Morrow. You bring in the likes of Janssen when healthy, Stroman, Nolin, Wagner and Stilson and hope for the best. AA failed in bringing big names to town...whether it was Santana, Darvish, Tanaka or Garza...elected to stay the course and rely on his in-house staff. How's that decision fairing for you?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Loup, Redmond/Rogers should be able to get through the 7th inning of a game like tonight with a 3-run lead.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 A firesale at the trade deadline = our World Series The life of a Jays fan. Literally all we can hope for at this point, because this team is clearly going absolutely nowhere.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 AA strikes me as a guy who's realized how much he got f***ed last off season and is scared to death of making any moves for fear of getting f***ed again, has fallen into depression and is trying to eat his way out of it.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Walker will be sacrificed any day now.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I don't really understand the perception that Stilson is going to come up here and dominate. Relievers look like a golden goddess today and tomorrow as a $ 10 whore. Call up Liam Hendriks and/or Rasmussen
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Really seems this team has had such frustrating losses this year with a lot of games they really should have won. That said, there has been multiple problems with this team that could have been fixed this off season. Why Sierra is even on this team, really gets me. He has as much use as a pile of dirt. Actually a pile of dirt has more value..
flafson Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 The problem is we have too many long revilers who don't pitch and then out late innings guys end up pitching too much.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Stilson 7IP (4.70 K, 8.22 BB, 2.35 HR)/9 And?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I don't have a problem with any of Gibbon's moves today, other than putting Santos in during the 8th. Bottom line is; Delabar, Cecil, and Santos f***ed up again. They didn't perform to expectations.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 It goes back to AA though. This, Gibbons is feeling like he has to win every game and having a ridiculously short leash on the starters
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Today: Dustin McGowan: .167 BABIP, 0.0% HR/FB, 5.87 xFIP Bullpen: .700 BABIP, 33.3% HR/FB ALL THE BULLPENS FAULT!!!! Lol nice. I turned the game off but I do recall the two hits off Santos were ground balls. If that first one was hit closer to a fielder it would have been the end of the inning.
Errorcebia Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Maybe if the pitchers could actually make their outs it wouldn't make the manager look so bad. According to all the self-proclaimed baseball experts on here the manager has zero impact on the game anyways, so what's the big deal?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 He does with decisions. Putting relievers in the right leverage situations mostly. Lineup construction and platoons too. They just don't give value by being a nice guy or whatever. The platoons are all AA's fault, no lind/juan platoon no rasmus platoon and no getz platoon as it looks like he will play against lefties.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 AA decision? Or Gibbons? Also find it hilarious that everyone keeps saying Getz was hitting in AAA. .309 AVG, but paltry .029 ISO. Like Moises Sierra winter ball, all BABIP driven, no power. Yeah that's gibbons fault, not that diaz is anything special
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Today: Dustin McGowan: .167 BABIP, 0.0% HR/FB, 5.87 xFIP Bullpen: .700 BABIP, 33.3% HR/FB ALL THE BULLPENS FAULT!!!! A very large share is the bullpens fault. How can you blame McGowan for the runs he didn't actually give up and praise the relievers when they actually did give up those runs. These things actually happened and lost us the game. You can't just look at the numbahs.

Like Moises Sierra winter ball, all BABIP driven, no power. I wonder if the team thought Getz would be JACKED to face his former team? It's a very weak rationale for a roster move but it may have entered the thought process. It's an interesting coincidence anyways.
