Spoonovic Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 He doesnt have any options left. It would be nice to keep him on the bench to have some late inning power. But we know that AA has an obsession with eight men bullpens.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 AA pretty much has to make a trade somehow
Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 AA pretty much has to make a trade somehow We have been saying this for a couple years now, it's not happening.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Bench should be: Diaz/Mune Gose Thole An actual RH bat with pop (or even Kratz/Mastro/Pillar). Cut Sierra. Nowhere for Fat Juan, unfortunately.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 We need a bench bat that can hit lefties. Why does no one in the F.O. see this???? Mastro with a .330 OBP against lefties in the bigs (and .395 in the minors) might be the best OF bench option. He can't hit lefties but Ryan Schimpf should be jumping past a bunch of these guys as a bench option. Good athlete, can play corner OF, 2B or 3B (none great but not a butcher in any either) and has a career .901 OPS against righties. If he doesn't work out as a bench piece than dump him (or send him down if you don't have a 40 man crunch)
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Schimpf could be very interesting. If he could passably play 2B he might be the best option. The fact that Burns has been just dreadful so far makes Schimpf even more interesting.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 and just as we start talking about him...Hulet gives us a review Ryan Schimpf, IF/OF, Toronto Blue Jays (Profile) Level: Triple-A Age: 26 Top-15: N/A Top-100: N/A Line: .299/.440/.642, 5 HR, 15 BB, 19 K (combined AA/AAA) Summary Schimpf isn’t flashy and doesn’t possess a huge ceiling, but he’s versatile and offers some left-handed pop. Notes Recently promoted to Triple-A, Schimpf is a fun little player. He stands just 5-9 but he’s got a strong frame and the ball jumps off his bat when he makes contact. Prior to the roster move, 12 of his 18 hits in Double-A went for extra bases and he’s also walked 13 times in 17 games. Strikeouts (17) will always be a part of the 26-year-old prospect’s game; because of the upper cut in his swing his bat doesn’t stay in the hitting zone for long. His pop, left-handed bat and versatility (He can play 2B, 3B, LF) make him an ideal candidate for a future bench role in the big leagues. Toronto hasn’t been very successful at identifying big league role players, passing on the likes of Ryan Roberts, Erik Kratz, Jonathan Diaz and Darin Mastroianni (among others) — although in some cases to later re-acquire the player — so it will be interesting to see if the organization starts to learn from its missteps.

Andy Burns is ready for the utility role.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 has anyone heard the status on Lind? Is he anywhere close to starting a rehab assignment? He comes off the DL pretty soon.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Dfa Francisco, sierra and gets. Bring up Kawasaki, gose and Schimpf
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Francisco, welcome to your comfort zone (13/37 K, ~35%)
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 He's not the answer. And neither is Izturis, Goins, Getz, Kawasaki, Bonifacio etc.. If we are digging through the trash to find a 2B option, why not Schimpf? you forgot diaz,he gonna rage and kill you! lol
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Fire him from a cannon over Niagra Falls for charity?

Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 AA will never let Francisco go. He has given him enough reason to hoard him for the next couple years. AA has a problem.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 we can't send him down...we'll lose him...have to keep him on the bench.... Will be hard to carry all of Thole, Francisco and Gose on the bench. will Gose be staying when Melky gets back? We need a legit 4th OF and he's our best options. Just so many LH bats though.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Francisco looks pretty good so far. He's putting up some decent ab's and taking pitches. AA will sign him for 5 years.
