He did get burnt on Loiza/Young.

But managed to make moves, even exciting moves without giving up what were regarded a "a" prospects.

Got David Cone coming off a Cy Young for b-prospects (with Delgado, Green, Gonzales, Stewart all in the system, managed to pull off the trade without using them).

Got Clemens in free-agency.

Got minor pieces, Stanley, Santiago, Fletcher, for little.

I see some similarities to the Marlins trade there.

Really though, despite Ash not trading "much" of the farm system, he still had an affinity for older players and traded away guys whom had present and long-term value to the ballclub.

I find it funny that someone with "Olerud" in their username is praising Gord Ash.

That trade alone (Olerud and cash for Robert Person) destroyed any credibility Ash had, nevermind losing Alomar for nothing, signing Hanson, Williams/Hamilton, Loaiza/Young, etc. If the Rockies actually accepted the rumored 2000 trade (Astacio/Jimenez for Halladay/Wells/Carpenter), then Ash would have been by far the worst GM in sports history, or damn close to it.

Not just for use to demonstrate the Fat Greek...could be used as a "you are way over your head in this conversation, just leave" message. Or any "fat kid taking his ball and going home" comments. And eventually I won't have to say anything when he gets fired...just post the happiness of this pic.

Like most people he probably has no idea what he looks like from behind but unlike most people he won't be spared the site. He must have been some bummed (pun intended) when he saw that.

Jesus, Beeston's first quote is a doozy and he looks either seriously hammered or hung over.

Apparently there wasn't a single person who thinks the Marlins/Mets trades were bad from the outset!

I love how he ALMOST drops an F bomb before he remembers it's going to be on TV

Blue Jays are on Wednesday Night Baseball this week. Would love to see that feed. Kind of surprised.

MLB.TV doesn't have a special feed for it, they don't for today's Rangers-Sox either (Monday Night Baseball). You'll probably have to watch it on actual ESPN.

Vs Astros?? Morrow vs Harrell.

Is ESPN trolling us?

Wonder how AA feels reading this.

"With respect to my ass......"

That's probably how he would start any statement he'd make about this thread.

One of you internet geeks needs to morph these two things into one:

Man if only I knew how to embed a video on this site the images of these two would be playing simultaneously almost in alignment.

To be fair he managed to get Jose Cruz Jr for two relievers, one of the best trades this team has ever made. That more than offsets the Michael Young deal. Cruz didn't live up to lofty expectations but still was one of the better players playing for the Jays since the World Series years.

You can imbed video in the OT and minor league sub forums. Not in the main one.

Actually I remember the Clemens one. That was supposedly all done by Beeston believe it or not. He negotiated one of the first opt outs.

Yes. That was a brilliant move. Clemens gave them 20 WAR over 2 years.

The rest of it was a s***-show even beyond anything we've seen lately. You had Joe Carter as the "heart" of the offense... not the 86-93 version that was useful at timesbut the 37 year old Joe Carter who was literally J.P. Arencibia by this point... and you had Jacob Brumfield, and Ruben Sierra, and Mariano Duncan coming in and out eating up 600 plate appearances of worse then Arencibia performance.

I don't even know how to explain it to the younger fans.

Let's say this. 2013 Jays get Dickey. Dickey is brilliant beyond belief. 10 WAR leads league in everything. But Jays still win 74 games because they are f***ing around with guys like Jeff Franceur. Take Jeff Franceur. Make 4 of them. Make one of them the heart of the offense, and use the other 3 to eat up at bats from good young players.

Yes he gave up Michael Young. But he had Delgado, Green, Gonzales, Stewart, Carpenter, Halladay, Escobar, Cruz, Vernon Wells. All viewed as elite prospects. There were times that he could of sold some of those chips, but didn't.

Michael Young was one no one saw coming... it happens.
