Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 What, why? Maybe they just finally clued in they needed a 4th bench player. Gose and Pillar are still prospects and need ABs in the minors. I am pretty sure they are keeping Sierra. This guy isn't good but he is a better option that we had internally for a 4th bench spot. So you would rather have a bench of matt t,sierra, kratz and izzy as opposed to matt t,gose, kratz and izzy? I wouldn't
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Injury clappy lefty reliever out. Awful old position player with out-option in.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 This smells to me like something bigger is in the works, and AA is making sure he has positions covered in case it goes down. Might we see something involving both Sierra and Izzy? AA hinted before that moves to address the bench could be made at the end of spring, and to me this move is protection for that possibility.

Moving both Sierra and Izzy and maybe one reliever would really clean up the 40 man well.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 I'm not picky. Lets start with Izturis and move from there. Yes Kawasaki is better than Izturis in almost every way and costs 1/3 as much
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I'm not picky. Lets start with Izturis and move from there. He might be a half decent fit for Detroit if they feel his defense will be average once he's off the turf.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Nice, finally cut ties with Perez. You just start watching the Jays? Perez was nasty when healthy. It's not a horrendous move because Tuiasaasmdoasmdsmaopo seems fairly versatile but cut Perez some slack.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Perez was very strong, but is 34 or 35 and coming off a serious injury. Unless he hasn't recovered properly, he'll be signed. He has such a weird pitching motion. It makes my elbow tingle just watching him! Anyway, decent utility player pick up. Like most I hope to hell this means we get rid of Izturis. He is soooooo useless. Kawasaki isn't the a savior, but at least he's fun to watch and very easy to cheer for. Is Izturis fun to watch? Easy to cheer for? I wonder if the Jays do in fact plan to go with a 7-man bullpen. I didn't think that would happen. I think Janssen starts the year on the DL to make room for someone else there.

BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Oh s***, Luis Perez was awesome before TJ! Crap! Okay, now I'm a little shocked. I thought he would be a Jay for yeasrs.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Perez has the ability to be a dominant LH reliever IMO. Great velocity and filthy movement on everything he throws. The stuff is just electric when he has his command. I dunno. This kinda sucks.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 your dumn Yep. And I went to colege. I spelled that wrong on purpose, to highlight the fact that I am dumn.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I can only imagine that the TJ recovery didn't go as planned and his arm is dead. If that's the case and he attempts a comeback as a knuckleballer we'll sign him and have cornered the knuckleball market.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I guess we will know if/when somebody signs him.

People forget that UCL surgery is not always effective . 15 to 20 % failure rate . And with all the latest going back for their second that may increase . Perez pitched well before the injury but now he has had a second surgery for bone chips ( I think ) and TO can't afford the 40 man roster spot .
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Hey at least she is trying. Even though I completely disagree with her. You don't think Perez was super effective before he hurt his elbow?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 AA on why #BlueJays claimed Tuiasosopo: "Played well for Tigers last year and we had good reports on him … gives us a RH bat that has positional versatility. Obviously there isn’t a lot of time left, but he’ll come in and compete for a spot.”…

Odds are stacked against him unless there are more moves obviously.

And can't wait indefinitely just to see what happens.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Tuiasosopo looks like a 3 outcomes guy. He takes his walks, 25+ % K rate (30% last year) and had some pop. Really small sample size to determine his true power though, he never hit more than 14 in a season throughout his minor league career
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Seems like an older version of Sierra or maybe its just me.

You realize that the 40 contains Mickey Storey, Liam Hendriks, Neil Wagner, Rob Rassmussen yeah?
CHRIS Verified Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Yeah, I don't see why it was Luis Perez who was cut. I guess they saw something in his delivery that they didn't like. Which makes me think they should have kept him. #bullpensession
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Yeah, I don't see why it was Luis Perez who was cut. I guess they saw something in his delivery that they didn't like. Which makes me think they should have kept him. #bullpensession The Perez DFA is really mystifying. You would have thought he would have just been put on the 60 day DL. Maybe there was a union issue with the injury being not quite serious enough to justify 60 days? Even if that's the case, there were some more obvious DFA candidates that should have had the axe before resorting to a Perez DFA. A for T., a right-handed batter who can play both the infield and the outfield could steal some starts from Goins and Lind against LHP and be a perfect fit for this team, perfect that is if he could hit but it doesn't sound like he has the kind of strong platton split you'd want from the role (then again Sierra doesn't have a platoon split either and he's slated to be the main RH option). Different s*** to throw against the wall I guess. If you're going to have a short bench than defensive versatiliy would help.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Can't believe I missed this...we carry this injured f*** on three off season 40 man rosters and now we dump him when we could have just added him to the 40 man. I have nothing against Perez directly, just the concept of taking roster spots for relievers that won't contribute. We dumped guys like Wojc and Perez (the catcher) because of a supposed roster crunch, but found a spot every off season for an easily replaceable reliever. These are tiny little moves that AA does all the time, and i know people say I'm overreacting to them but they suck up money (salary, rehab, actual medical cost). The only time a reliever should be part of your minor league depth not on the 25 man roster is when they are young and have either starter or closer potential (thinking Stilson here). The most interesting part of Tuiasosopo is that his cousin catfish'd Te'o.
