G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 The @BlueJays claim OF MATT TUIASOSOPO on waivers from Diamondbacks. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP LUIS PEREZ has been released.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Cool! Decent bench player. For those who forgot, he hit his first home run versus us, off of Bernice Tallet no less, and Seattle's commentator predicted it to a tee. Blowers amazes with uncanny prediction: Mariners broadcaster calls Tuiasosopo's first home run
flafson Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Why release Perez after sending him to the DL? Did i miss something? I thought he was alright pitcher.
Brenner Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 The @BlueJays claim OF MATT TUIASOSOPO on waivers from Diamondbacks. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP LUIS PEREZ has been released. Versatile bench player, can player Corner IF and OF positions. Showed some pop last year with the bat but has never broken out. Can he be the 4th bench player? Fits well enough just not sure he can be productive even in a small role.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I don't think I'd call him a decent bench player. He was been below-average offensively in AAA at 25 and 26 years old and doesn't bring speed or defensive value. He's just kind of a guy for AAA (I hope). I thought Perez would be retained via a DL stint, but apparently not. That clears one out-of-options pitcher from the logjam. Meh, he had a nice year last year. Always thought that the first home run was really cool.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 On a .330 BABIP. What would your projections have him at over more than 27 PA?
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 The release part shocked me. I would have thought DL.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Like 0.3 WAR over 600. If it came down to a bench of Izturis, Gose, Kratz and Tuisasopo or Sierra would you prefer Sierra or T? Personally I like T, more versatility off the bench. I still agree with your Kratz should be starting vs LHP and Navarro DHing.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 The release part shocked me. I would have thought DL. Yes.... may be something we don't know about his health? He was a useful pitcher in 2011
Jim_Ackers_balls Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 His splits were not the greatest last year. A lot better against righties than lefties. If they were the other way around, he'd be a good platoon partner for Lind. Wait and see, I guess.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Yes.... may be something we don't know about his health? He was a useful pitcher in 2011 I thought Perez was good at least before the injury. We had that mutt that we picked up and never appeared in a game who could have been dfa'd.
Jim_Ackers_balls Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Too small of a sample size. They have to be regressed. Doesn't mean he actually hits righties better. Doesn't matter if he hits righties better, because he won't play against them.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Wilner speculating I'd almost imagine he'd have make a move to get rid of a couple more out-of-option players unless he's going to just keep releasing people.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Yeah didn't know he was out if options. And he presumably won't clear waivers if AA tries So there will be more moves. Might be minor though.
Nox Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Why bring on a replacement level guy who's out of options? That doesn't make any sense.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Why bring on a replacement level guy who's out of options? That doesn't make any sense. Maybe he found someone to take Sierra.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Maybe they try waive both him and Sierra at the same time hoping one goes through?
bendera3 Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Maybe they try waive both him and Sierra at the same time hoping one goes through? And Gose makes the team then as the 4th OF?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Maybe he found someone to take Sierra. Maybe Amado Jr will give us a SP for Sierra and Kratz after today's power display.
Nox Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Maybe he found someone to take Sierra. He probably found a reliever with a low ERA and some holds and thinks he has a steal brewing.
Brenner Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Maybe they try waive both him and Sierra at the same time hoping one goes through? What, why? Maybe they just finally clued in they needed a 4th bench player. Gose and Pillar are still prospects and need ABs in the minors. I am pretty sure they are keeping Sierra. This guy isn't good but he is a better option that we had internally for a 4th bench spot.
