Does anyone have any expectations for this bust anymore? He was supposed to be a #1 or #2 for a long time. He had the great minor league results in the Philly organization, he had above average “stuff”, he even had the blood lines as his knuckle balling father won the Cy Young.

Yet he hasn’t done much in the majors. He can’t throw strikes to save his life. I remember after recovering from his 2nd Tommy John injury, he had an impressive walk ratio in the minors. What happened when he was called up and entered the game out of the bullpen in September? He walked three straight batters.

In today’s spring training game he had 3 walks in 1.2 IP.

Org guy. He'll kick around until he runs out of option years then he'll be DFA'd and spend the rest of his career going from org to org on minor league contracts.

Yeah but would you trade him and snider for Grienke though?

29th ranked prospect only three years ago

.884 WHIP 5.83 K/BB in the minors last year

Finally healthy

26 years old

Still throwing in the low-mid 90s

I WANT TO BELIEVE

It's way too early to completely give up on the guy. It's like just lost his control over night. Not really the full-on yips ala Ankiel... but pretty damn close. Really weird. This is a make or break year for sure though.

Just keep him in the pen. He seems like a huge mouth breather so it'll be good for him to focus on just one inning at a time.

The FB/CB combo would be deadly out of the pen if he could actually f***ing find some control.

Drabek is gonna be the 2020 Toronto Blue Jays SS.

Hopefully Jays hold on to him and he eventually finds his command, but without, he's got no shot at anything.

Will he ever get it? Anybody's guess.

very pedestrian minor league results

1.04 K/BB in 170 major league innings

two tommy john surgeries

26 years old

BUST

He's technically a bust because3 years ago we all considered him a #1-1A type of guy... But he can still be salvaged. The stuff is still there.

No. He's a bust because can't be able to be consistent throwing strikes.

Romero, Drabek and McGuire are bust, but Deck is younger and the Jays have more years of control over Him

I'd deal him at the deadline if he puts up any numbers remotely close to decent. You know GM's will still like him based off his name alone giving him added value. I just can't see him ever getting his head in the game. He's a mental case like Romero.

Slot him in the 'pen and get him to focus on throwing a couple of pitches

Add in a change, which he's had some success with as well.

Drabek might seem like a complete lost cause, but I really don't think he's that much different than the majority of "stuff" pitching prospects.

He'll likely never be anything, but if something clicks for him then he could be a monster. Is he that much different than, say, Aaron Sanchez?

The raw pitch quality is undeniable and with his demonstrated GB tendencies he might not need to K/BB as hard as you might think.

You just have to slay one dragon, Kyle. The walk dragon. He looks like Ted Williams, wearing Bonds' elbow guard. Slay him with your awkwardness.

I think he will end up in the bullpen eventually. He doesn't have the command to make it as a starter, but maybe as a short reliever who only has to throw an inning he will be able to dial it in a little bit.

His days of being a starting option at the MLB level are over.

Filthy stuff, would be great if he wasn't such a train-wreck in terms of mental composure. Dude needs to calm the f*** down out there and let his talent speak for itself.

Drabek is a total longshot at this point but it's not impossible, that Chris Carpenter guy had a poor minor league K/BB ratio and arm problems, he turned out okay.

I remember seeing him pitch against Darvish two years ago and I thought he looked great (as did Darvish of course). The ability is there, but these kinds of pitchers are the most annoying to watch. If he just threw the ball over the plate more often he'd be a good ML calibre pitcher. Maybe he could turn into a good late inning bullpen arm?

The reality is drabek hasn't pitched enough mlb innings to come to any conclusion and less than 2 innings in spring training is hardly enough time to determine anything. Drabek has good movement and velocity. His delivery is not consistent enough. Does he make the necessary adjustments physically and mentally to be a productive pitcher? Who knows. I think those certain that he will be a quality pitcher or won't be a quality pitcher are rushing to judgement.

A healthy Drabek would still be a good prospect. Doesn't really matter how he performs if he is never on the field. I expect about the same as someone like Dustin McGowan and hold out hope for a string of healthy seasons.
