Laika Community Moderator Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Doesn't it always? Home opener is some weird, independent event in Toronto for some reason.
Brenner Verified Member Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Opening day sold out in like 2 hours or less. I think they have more than 1 home game to sell. I don't think the home opener is much of any indication. Season tickets but also number of flex packs sold would be a stronger indicator. Its only anecdotal evidence, but I know many fans who feel they got burned last year on flex packs and are waiting for a reason to invest in them again.

Not buying one until they do something significant.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 + f***ing 1 also.....feeling is mutual. Andrew Walker @FAN590Walker According to @GloBlair as he came into studio after us- #Jays may have more than passing interest in AJ Burnett. feeling said to be mutual. Jay I sent you an email.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Yeah, I don't care how long it takes, just as long as we end up with the necessary players.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that "it’s really looking like a Baltimore-Philadelphia-Pittsburgh runoff" for the services of A.J. Burnett. Burnett has decided to pitch in 2014 and is willing to look at clubs other than the Pirates. The Blue Jays and Rays have also shown interest, but it's looking like a three-team race for the right-hander. Burnett has loyalty to the Pirates, but he lives just outside of Baltimore and Peter Gammons reported earlier this week that the Orioles are "all in" on the righty. Feb 2 - 10:12 AM Source: Boston Globe Nick Cafardo should DIAFFF !!! But there are reports that the O's aren't "all in" for Burnett too. Who knows what to believe? These writers are as clueless as we are.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 All these rumors are being planted by the Jays to appease the masses. What they fail to realize, as usual, is that if/when they end up with their finger up their deriere and no FA, the masses will stay away from the RC. It's the same shortsightedness they employed to abandon the very plan they claimed they were following. Anyway...
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Well, that's quite the theory. Not a theory bro, it's all facts...in my head of course.

The fanbase - even the casual fans - are angry about the Jays doing absolutely nothing this offseason so far and cheaping out, so the FO is now leaking s*** left and right about trades that "almost" happened and players they're "contemplating" signing in a vain attempt to get the fans off their back. In the end, they can throw their hands up and say "oh well, we tried!" as an excuse when they stand pat.

I could care less if we sign players in November or February as long as we add talent. I'm not going to criticize the FO when there are still many pitchers available. Let's wait and see what happens before losing our s***.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I can't criticize the FO when they have done exactly what I suggested for this off-season. Tweak but mainly let it ride and hope and pray. If it doesn't work you lessened the damage for the future FO.
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 According to mlbtr neither the orioles or phillies are likely to add burnett, which IMO would seem to make his only suitors Toronto or Pitsburgh? If that is the case I think we could offer burnett more money than the pirates seeing as I think we need him more.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Looks like it. The O's must be really strapped for cash if they won't even sign Burnett. Arroyo apparently has also decided not to sign with Baltimore either, choosing either the D-Backs or Dodgers.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Not sure why the fans are crying that we're not doing anything. Thanks to the backloaded contracts Miami dumped on us, our salary is higher in 2014, than it was in 2013 even without Johnson. The increased pay to Reyes and Buehrle alone, more than account for Johnson's salary. The last thing we need is ownership to put this franchise further behind by burdening us with more big contracts, and depleting our farm system further. AA rolled the dice and lost. Now, he gets one year to prove his bad year wasn't a fluke, or he's gonna get replaced.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 According to CBSSports.com, they're considering a run at Burnett in Washington. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24434787/could-nats-emerge-as-contender-to-favored-pirates-for-aj-burnett

But do they need him??
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 what makes everyone so sure that a bad year means aa gets fired. we are prob stuck with him and beeston for a while regardless what happens this year
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I don't know Washington already has: 1.Strasburg 2.Fister 3.Gonzalez 4.Zimmerman 5.Detwiller I know Burnett could replace Detwiller but I mean the nationals really don't need him and would he realt want to be a #5? Only way I see it happening is if Burnett takes a pretty big discount to be closer to home, which I guess is possible.

Arroyo apparently has also decided not to sign with Baltimore either, choosing either the D-Backs or Dodgers. Would a big market team get involved if he's only looking for one year? I know the Yanks wouldn't but maybe the Dodgers or Sox?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 MLBTR from last night: MONDAY, 10:17pm: Burnett is in discussions with multiple teams, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. 9:41pm: The Phillies are "very much still in the running" to land Burnett, reports MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. Though there is no indication that the sides are nearing a deal, says Zolecki, the likelihood has increased since Friday.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 In other news, AA is close to terms on purchasing a lifetime supply of tatziki. That would be MASSIVE news relative to what we've heard on the Jays front since October
