Isn't it kind of expected for a fly ball hitter with high K%, ISO, and league average LD% to have an inflated BABIP? His success if less fuelled by fluctuations in BABIP and more so by generating power. His 2010 and 2013 are really similar, that's probably not a total coincidence.

Colby for a pitcher very likely weakens this team by about 2 wins in 2014.

Maybe, but Phillips and Bailey would probably be good for ~7 WAR.

What shots at you? That I'd rather take his immediate family member and mentors word over yours, you really are a dumbass then.

So who's the dumbass...me the guy who said AA would never say that to a player....or you the guy who said,"That I'd rather take his immediate family member and mentors word over yours,"

Did you see Tony's follow up tweet:

@BlueJaysFacts looking back over that tweet let me make one thing clear. Colby didn't hear that info from AA.

Too funny spankster.....I was way off base on my comments..now wasn't I....lol

Fly ball hitters generally have lower BABIPs.

Rasmus > Phillips

The best idea would be extend Rasmus or trade for Trout. We just have to Bautista in our OF. The Jays generational change is a disaster (Position players)

My point still remains, I'd rather take his immediate family members word over yours, the irony in this, is you're now taking his fathers word?

Too funny......sasquatch!!

My original point was context of words and that I highly doubted AA would ever say that to a player. You ranted on that I was a retard, toerag, minion from the other board and that you'd take a family member's words over my speculation.....a simple," you're perhaps not as dumb as I originally thought" would suffice!

Good call, it's just habit to think of ground balls as a poor outcome, he also hits quite a few IFFB which should hinder his BABIP.

The larger point I was trying to make is that his success/failure is not determined by BABIP like a lot of hitters; rather that his success/failure generating power causes huge fluctuations in his BABIP.

You that confident he is 4+ WAR again in 2014 or more worried that Gose is replacement level?

What would a trade for Trout even look like from our end? Encarnacion + Lawrie + Stroman + Sanchez + ???

+ Rasmus/Dickey, maybe?

Posted
Trout's surplus in the next 4 years is approximately $256M.

That's a little like saying Google's stock could hit $5000 in the next four years...sure it could happen, but anyone trading for one player based on a projection like that is nuts...a lot of bad things can happen between now and 2018 that'll prevent him from coming anywhere close to those numbers.

Posted
And good things can happen that can make it even higher.

But with extreme predictions like that, bad is much more likely than good. He can play to projection then pull a hamstring early one year and his $250M+ turns to $200M or less.

Part of me resents the thought of trading one of the few likable players on this team

Agreed.

If we can turn Rasmus into a starting pitcher + 2nd Basemen i would be fine with it. Unlikely though.

I think you could get either a top end SP or decent 2b and back end guy for Rasmus. I'd be curious to see if you could get Hill and Cahill from the Dbacks for something like Rasmus and Nolin.

If we're not getting more control back, there's no reason to trade Rasmus. You're just filling one hole by opening another. Because no team is giving up a decent starter AND a capable centrefielder.

Yes.

However if we're turning the return from Rasmus into a quality starting pitcher and 2nd basemen then you do it.

Gose in CF is probably better then Goins at 2nd.

Even Pillar in CF is probably better than Goins at 2b.

haha. I don't know...both would be pretty brutal.

If they brought back Rajai to platoon with Pillar I'd be down but Pillar everyday is a fairly unappealing option.
