The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 It's been discussed at length here: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/2050-Colby-pulls-out-of-winter-tour I checked that thread once when it first started, saw they weren't coming anywhere near the east coast, never opened that thread again.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Isn't it kind of expected for a fly ball hitter with high K%, ISO, and league average LD% to have an inflated BABIP? His success if less fuelled by fluctuations in BABIP and more so by generating power. His 2010 and 2013 are really similar, that's probably not a total coincidence.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 A lot of people won't check that thread. Yeah. Thus why i posted the link.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Colby for a pitcher very likely weakens this team by about 2 wins in 2014. Maybe, but Phillips and Bailey would probably be good for ~7 WAR.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 What shots at you? That I'd rather take his immediate family member and mentors word over yours, you really are a dumbass then. So who's the dumbass...me the guy who said AA would never say that to a player....or you the guy who said,"That I'd rather take his immediate family member and mentors word over yours," Did you see Tony's follow up tweet: Tony_Rasmus_IV @FlorenceFalcon0 16h @BlueJaysFacts looking back over that tweet let me make one thing clear. Colby didn't hear that info from AA. Too funny spankster.....I was way off base on my comments..now wasn't I....lol
Jay Train Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I know your DP is in jest, but would you ever stop rooting for the Jays (short of them relocating)?

Fly ball hitters generally have lower BABIPs.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Rasmus > Phillips The best idea would be extend Rasmus or trade for Trout. We just have to Bautista in our OF. The Jays generational change is a disaster (Position players)
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 My point still remains, I'd rather take his immediate family members word over yours, the irony in this, is you're now taking his fathers word? Too funny......sasquatch!! My original point was context of words and that I highly doubted AA would ever say that to a player. You ranted on that I was a retard, toerag, minion from the other board and that you'd take a family member's words over my speculation.....a simple," you're perhaps not as dumb as I originally thought" would suffice!
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 trade for Trout. You stoned bro?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Bautista for Trout? How about Ryan Goins for Trout. Dat glove
LunchBox Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Good call, it's just habit to think of ground balls as a poor outcome, he also hits quite a few IFFB which should hinder his BABIP. The larger point I was trying to make is that his success/failure is not determined by BABIP like a lot of hitters; rather that his success/failure generating power causes huge fluctuations in his BABIP.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Colby for a pitcher very likely weakens this team by about 2 wins in 2014. You that confident he is 4+ WAR again in 2014 or more worried that Gose is replacement level?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 What would a trade for Trout even look like from our end? Encarnacion + Lawrie + Stroman + Sanchez + ??? + Rasmus/Dickey, maybe?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Trout's surplus in the next 4 years is approximately $256M.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 You stoned bro? Sarcasm dude. I meant "extend Rasmus is the most viable option right now"
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Trout's surplus in the next 4 years is approximately $256M. That's a little like saying Google's stock could hit $5000 in the next four years...sure it could happen, but anyone trading for one player based on a projection like that is nuts...a lot of bad things can happen between now and 2018 that'll prevent him from coming anywhere close to those numbers.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 And good things can happen that can make it even higher. Highly unlikely.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 And good things can happen that can make it even higher. But with extreme predictions like that, bad is much more likely than good. He can play to projection then pull a hamstring early one year and his $250M+ turns to $200M or less.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Part of me resents the thought of trading one of the few likable players on this team
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Part of me resents the thought of trading one of the few likable players on this team Agreed. If we can turn Rasmus into a starting pitcher + 2nd Basemen i would be fine with it. Unlikely though.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Agreed. If we can turn Rasmus into a starting pitcher + 2nd Basemen i would be fine with it. Unlikely though. I think you could get either a top end SP or decent 2b and back end guy for Rasmus. I'd be curious to see if you could get Hill and Cahill from the Dbacks for something like Rasmus and Nolin.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 If we're not getting more control back, there's no reason to trade Rasmus. You're just filling one hole by opening another. Because no team is giving up a decent starter AND a capable centrefielder.

Gose in CF is probably better then Goins at 2nd.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Even Pillar in CF is probably better than Goins at 2b. haha. I don't know...both would be pretty brutal.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 haha. I don't know...both would be pretty brutal. If they brought back Rajai to platoon with Pillar I'd be down but Pillar everyday is a fairly unappealing option.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 The thought of Anthony Gose as our starting CFer makes me want to vomit. If Gump is dealt there better be other moves following.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Even Pillar in CF is probably better than Goins at 2b. Tell me you're joking please.
