Two things I noticed that are probably bad signs... Stanton never moved once he landed. My guess is to minimize damage. And also if u watch his dad, he was almost insistent in staying in Giancarlo's eyeline while he was on the ground and being loaded on the cart. Scary stuff indeed...

Stanton,Trout,Werth,Chase Headley all hit ,and hurt tonite.

I dont blame the Marlins for retaliating.Other teams do the same thing even when they know its accidental. Its happened to us at home.

Baseballs got a problem, and imo, this is related to lack of control due to...bad umpiring,so hitters, and pitchers dont know what strikes are going to be on a consistent basis anymore.

You have both hitters, and pitchers pissed off in so many games, and you can only suck it up so much.

Never seen so many players being hit in a season, and miss games.

Hope nothing happens to wreck the playoffs.

A buddy of mine had a fracture on his orbital bone and said it was the worst pain he has ever been in..... Don't want to think what multiple facial fractures would be like. Hope he continues dominating next season.

Sounds like it isn't as bad as it looked. That looked really bad. Stanton was on an MVP type run.

He's only missing 17 games. He may still win it.

Kershaw is the only other NL player in the conversation for NL MVP so it may come down to the old pitcher vs position player argument.

Voters will use this as an excuse why he doesn't win it when in fact it was because the marlins aren't in the playoff picture. Seems like Kershaw is a shoo in now.

Neil Wagner has signed a minors contract with the Rays.. of course, he won't be ready until the 2016 season. Still a strange signing for a guy who is out for the 2015 season.

A reality check for anyone expecting Boston to spend money on top free agents:

Not a surprise.. most of those high-priced free agents will be going to up and coming and championship teams like Chicago, New York(if the Yankees have any money), L.A., S.F., etc, and not to Boston, who currently have no real plan on how to return to the sustainable contender they were through most of the 2000s before their decline starting in 2010 (with a brief blip when they won a World Series in 2013, which was a fluke).

A minor league contract means he won't have to be added to the 40 man at all even when the activation deadline comes along (in November I believe). This is much better than having him on the 40 and using the 60 day DL.

Pretty useless article. It's pretty contradictory too, halfway through the article it then goes on how the Red Sox will have interest in Lester and Shields. The Red Sox will be back next year or the year after to compete. They will surpass the Jays easily with their young talent and most likely higher payroll.

It's stupid. It sort of just says they'll sign one big FA starter not two.

Heh, it's still the third inning, and half the Dodgers batters already have 3 plate appearances.

Matt Kemp leading the charge with three run-scoring hits!

Boston will still be a last place team or close to it in 2015, and possibly 2016. Boston needs a lot more than Betts and those young pitchers. They need a 1B, a DH to replace David Ortiz, a 3B that can actually hit, and development from Castillo and Bogaerts. The bigger concerns are Pedroia's decline and Ortiz's age(close to 40).

And because of several players being rushed (Bradley Jr., Ranaudo, Webster), several of the prospects values have dropped substantially.

Most free agents will prefer to go after a title now than wait until 2016-17 to win, which is how long it'll take for Boston to contend.

And you do realize our pitching prospects have significantly more upside than Boston's, right? Outside of Owens, most of their young arms have shown that they're not close to MLB ready, except for Rubby De La Rosa, and/or are likely bullpen arms (Webster).

BTW, Mookie Betts is no longer a prospect.. he's used up his prospect eligibility. And Boston isn't going to raise payroll much further, especially considering ownership has a football team to invest in, and the fact that the Red Sox are at least 2-3 years from being a threat again.

Rusney Castillo's callup may have to wait.. Pawtucket won the IL championship over Durham. They'll move on to face Reno (D-Backs affil.) or Omaha (KC Royals) on Tuesday.

Theres a lot of bias in what you just wrote. You could say this about the Blue Jays:

They have 3 major holes in their starting lineup CF, LF, 2B and it looks like one of those positions could be filled internally. Jose, Edwin and Reyes are all only going to decline and Reyes has one of the worst contracts in baseball. While they have some good pitching prospects, all it takes is one pitch to get injured and pitching can turn bad in a hurry.

They have ownership that looks like they don't want to spend and management that doesn't know how to build a true contender. Mix that with the inability to attract free agents and their future looks iffy.

Now I like the Blue Jays chances next year if they can pull off a few moves in the offseason but you are selling the Red Sox as some s***** baseball club when they have one of the best prospect pools in the majors and the ability to spend a lot of money.

did you even look at who you were quoting

Did you even look at who you're responding to?

While the Red Sox have a deep prospect pool, it's mostly pitching. The reason I am negative on the Sox has more to do with the lack of replacements for David Ortiz and Mike Napoli in the system, failed prospects (Bradley Jr., Middlebrooks) and an uncertain pitching staff for 2015. Even if they offer money, this is an organization that wouldn't pay up for Lester just two months ago, plus will likely be competing with an up and coming Cubs team with Theo Epstein for his services. Shields is a possibility, but that would be a huge mistake, as Shields is 2-9 with a 5.42 ERA career at Fenway, plus will be 33 next season. And Scherzer will be out of Boston's price and year range.
