jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Anyone hear anything if there is any talk about the Blue Jays having interest in Y. Tomas? No teams have been named.. mostly speculation on bidding potentially commanding upwards of $100M. But rumor has it RAJ is courting him for the Phillies, and the Red Sox are courting him.. but no confirmation.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Travis Snider has actually turned in a solid season. After a HR tonight his wRC+ is up to 116. Primed for a breakout? Pirates likely postseason bound with a young team and at the same time can develop players like Snider Jays try to buy their way to the postseason, but due to (what a surprise!) salary constraints have several holes/weaknesses Its elementary, my dear

He doesn't play vs. left handers, and he's still not a great OF defensively. Plus, Marte and Polanco are likely to be in that OF next year with McCutchen, meaning he won't get a lot of playing time. He's only been able to play due to injuries in the OF.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Fernando Rodney is awful. I laughed when the Mariners broadcasters said Rodney has been the best closer in baseball lol. They are such homers. Even when he threw that 3-2 change-up on Moss, they were like only Fernando Rodney has guts to make that pitch. With Chapman, Kimbrel, Doolittle, Holland, etc. around, how do you even get away with saying something like that? Doolittle is even in your own division!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Trout deserves it. I'd also say guys like V-Mart, Brantley, and Abreu will get votes. Interesting that Trout will get it after his worst full season, because omgz Aynjulz made da playawffz!!!1

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Papelbon suspended 7 games for adjusting his crotch.. I guess. Not even touching it with a ten-foot pole.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Doesn't every MLB player adjust their crotch? lol. Heck are they going to make spitting illegal next?
Vincent Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Doesn't every MLB player adjust their crotch? lol. Heck are they going to make spitting illegal next? He did it directly at the fans. Pretty low but not worth 7 games.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I enjoy posts like this from time to time: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/bryce-harper-craig-kimbrel-and-a-rare-moment-of-weakness/ Harper's swing is a thing of beauty, and the one foul ball he hits and is shown is like 90 grade bat speed.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 He did it directly at the fans. Pretty low but not worth 7 games. Firstly you don't due that kinda BS when theres kids around. He wasn't adjusting himself and it's obvious. Secondly MLB suspended him for bumping two umpires not the crotch thing which is fully justifiable.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Papelbon was thrown out for grabbing his cock and addressing the fans, while they boo'd him. He was suspended 7 games for abuse of the umpires after the fact. What an ******* LOL
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 MLBTR: Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette looks at the extraordinary preparation and conditioning that have contributed to Russell Martin‘s brilliant season. Brink spoke to Martin’s coaches and teammates about what he means to the club, with GM Neal Huntington stating that the club is going to do everything it can to re-sign its catcher. Perhaps most interesting, however, is the fact that Brink notes that the Pirates offered Martin a two-year, $17MM deal and a three-year, $21MM deal when signing him prior to the 2013 season. Martin explains to Brink that he didn’t want to sign for three years, because he felt he could improve his stock on a two-year pact, which he has done in dramatic fashion. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/pirates/2014/09/16/Money-in-the-bank-Pirates-catcher-Russell-Martin-s-exceptional-season/stories/201409160143

xposbrad Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Can't believe Baltimore can lock up the div title. It was just a few short years ago they were a lock for last place in the division and everyone here was making fun of them. How the tides turn, and the blue jays still miss the playoffs and no hope in the near future right now for anything changing that course.

Vincent Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 It's funny how hard we were bashing AA for not making trades but basically every team that made trades has been worse off
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 It's funny how hard we were bashing AA for not making trades but basically every team that made trades has been worse off Making a bigger acquisition at the time was still probably the right thing to do, but it wouldn't have worked out or helped our playoff chances enough to make a difference ultimately, so you're right in that sense. Yes, in retrospect, the Yankees wasted prospects trading for pickups that won't get them to the playoffs either. Some will say "at least they tried". Depends how you look at it I guess. YMMV All I know for sure is that I am VERY happy that we hung on to Hutch, Sanchez and Stroman

YMMV I think he didn't make trades because he didn't think they were worth-while. I think he was right that time. Unfortunately he can make all the right moves in the world from here on out and it won't make up for the awful Marlins trade (and a few others).
