Have you made a legitimate post in the last 3 years??

On rare occasions perhaps. Never made a post advocating acquiring Dayan Viciedo though, which some might consider a big win.

It's Viciedo over Smoak. Never did I say he was a good player ffs. You have a hard time with reading comprehension in this thread, that's ok and I do not mean to trash talk that.

#Dbacks have named Joe Carter as a Special Assistant to General Manager Dave Stewart. What a great hitter he was. Loved watching him play.

Man baseball was weird back then. I remember my dad loving Carter. And you look at his career numbers. Pretty crazy.

He was third in MVP voting in 1992. .264/.309/.498 34HR

McGwire was fourth .268/.385/.585 42HR

Or Frank Thomas was either: .323/.439/.536 24HR

well the slash line wasn't widely recognized until later in the '90s ...

in '92 being a "big RBI man" carried a lot of weight.

Fair enough, but McGwires numbers were still certainly better. Less RBI though, and that was probably the factor. Ignore the fact it was a team full of all stars on base all the time for him lol.

People still use the slash line?

Why wouldn't you? Sure, it's not adjusted for anything, but it gives you a great idea of the player's offensive composition.

So where do we sit money wise, damn cots switched formats and now I can't see 2015 updated payroll! Dumb f***s!

If payroll was suppose to go up ala beeston, how does AA think we have 5-6 mill left is that not less payroll then last year?

It doesn't include base running (stolen bases + actual base running), that's a big part of the picture you're not getting. Imagine evaluating Dee Gordon based on his slash line, you'd be an idiot if that's all you were using.

The majority of baseball fans still use slash line, almost exclusively. Only now is WAR starting to become somewhat mainstream. I'm sure he's aware of how stats like wOBA or wRC+ are more accurate indicators of offensive contribution.

Tldr; you're nitpicking.

His ERA was awful last year but it looks like he just had an unlucky year. Doesn't miss too many bats but the GB numbers look pretty good. Also has been durable the last few years FWIW. It'd be a decent pickup for a couple million.

However the one thing is I can't stand looking at him. Guy has to be one of the most ugly players in MLB. Those goggles..

is "he" referring to me? lol

"admin" said baseball was crazy in '92 when Joe Carter came third in MVP voting ahead of others with much better slash lines ... and I simply pointed out that the idea of the slash line wasn't really around in '92.

Either you or 43211234. What I'm saying is that you guys understand there are better way to evaluate offense other than the slash line.

ha, guess the deletion of my post happened while you were quoting it (cuz I figured that you were referring to the other guy) ... but, yeah, I think anybody who knows what a "slash line" is also knows that it ain't the be all and end all of evaluating offensive production.

Ugh f***, I was hoping they'd go after anyone else. Whatever, he's a decent fit. Groundball guy, gives up no homers, strong peripherals. Wish he wasn't so hideous.

And I really hope it's for less than "a couple million".

Well obviously you should never use one measure to complete on opinion on a player. While wRC+ will give you a much clearer and accurate representation of their true offensive worth, the triple slash line is still a great way to look at what type of player they are from a batting standpoint.

#BlueJays making a strong push to sign free-agent reliever Ronald Belisario, sources say. He's represented by Jim McNamara.

Cross Belisario off the list of potential Blue Jays then, if Morosi is reporting it.

He's easily linked 75+ players to the Blue Jays and I don't know if he's ever been right.

Why belisario? Because of CLOZUR MENTALUTY

He has 12 career saves, lol.

60.4 GB%, 0.54 HR/9 career numbers, had a .339 BABIP last year (50 points higher than his career average), strong periphs with a 3.22 SIERA (3.26 career)... if you can look past the grotesque face (easier said than done), he's definitely a guy. Liking the idea of signing him more by the minute. Good fit for the Jays.

If they sign him, I can see the words "I love you, you fat ugly bastard" being uttered at some point in a game day thread on this forum in 2015.

I suggested this earlier in the offseason, love this move if it gets done.

fk the pen will be a mess if this is AA's idea of signing a good player. I'm sure for every player there's a good stat to find if you dig deep enough, but we need a good reliever, or a guy who can close. Why is AA looking into garbage scraps like Belisario? Is it payroll? Man, sometimes I just don't get the way this club operates.

We have one of the better closers on the game already.

Some Jays lefty who lost velocity and his wife tweets like JP Arencibia 2013

2013-2014: 114 innings

(11.53 K, 3.95 BB, 0.47HR)/9, 53% GB, 2.63 FIP

VS

David Robertson

2013-2014: 130 innings

(11.92 K, 2.82 BB, 0.83 HR)/9, 48% GB, 2.65 FIP

Which of Belisario's stats make him a "garbage scrap" exactly? Where exactly is the digging being done? Your ass?

Belisario is actually okay and has some interesting things going for him. Great ground-ball rate and was fifth among relievers in zone% last year. With Russell Martin helping him out, I could see a 7/2 K/BB and 60% GB% next year. That's a decent reliever.

Team could use the bullpen depth. There's litterally nothing to complain about here.
