G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 whats going on in Oakland? Beane has lost his marbles or he's on to something completely new
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 RJ Alvarez and Jesse Hahn to be the return.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Beane has lost his marbles or he's on to something completely new Totally possible. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he knows something about the guys he's trading and the guys he is getting back that others don't see. Either way, it looks like they are in a re-tool/rebuild phase but usually in Oakland those don't last long.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Beane has lost his marbles or he's on to something completely new Norris is nothing special, I'd rather have Navarro then him, big haul for oak.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Beane probably got pissed that they lost in the wildcard. Realized that they weren't going anywhere with out Lester and others. And decided to blow it up

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Wth??? Are you serious? He looks like a guy who crushes lefties and can't hit righties. So he's going to start 45 games for you with terrible defense and framing.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 It would be nice if the Jays got someone like RJ Alvarez in return for Navarro. I'm not holding my breath, though.

It would be nice if we got SOMETHING of value for Navarro. I mean there has to be a GM out there that will overvalue Navarro's batting average and RBIs right?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Good trade for Oakland. Hope that helps the Navarro market. Plus they've got Jaso + Vogt so eh.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Derek Norris was one of my favs in daily fantasy vs lefty pitching and he always was dirt cheap. I have a soft spot for him. I still like the trade for Oakland though.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Deteriorated? Kemp was the second best hitter in baseball in the second half of 2014. Keep reaching for that rainbow, mate, SD would be crazy to honour that deal, his hips are deteriorating, not to mention the shoulder, that seems to have healed though. Take off the LSD laced Kemp shades for a minute, would you still make that trade? We're talking 5 years of arthritic hips on that contract? I'd be running in the other direction.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 He went from superstar to below-average player with a bad shoulder and arthritic hips. This.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 - Derek Norris traded to Padres - Kemp to Padres deal appears to be done as well Wow...the Pads are dumn.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Ouch, lol. That's hard to see. I'd be pretty damn heartbroken if I was an A's fan right now. http://i.gyazo.com/03f6d0fda2a155a3e009ece22484b8b9.png

I'd be pretty damn heartbroken if I was an A's fan right now. until August when they are leading the division by 5 games. Long time A's fans have even stopped complaining in the off season as they just sit back and assume it's going to work out alright. I'll take back all my offered wagers that Nolin provides more value than Sanchez (even if Sanchez starts) as I think Nolin might be #9 on the depth chart now...at least when Griffin and Parker return.

Doesn't matter if it works or not, we're questioning the process not the results. Can you in your right mind tell me that lineup can compete next year?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Anyways if Scott Kazmir is available, Alex please is all I have to say
fireballW Verified Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Oakland usually does seem to come out on top one way or another. Maybe not this year, but a year or two down the road. I guess we'll find out. Just wish we'd see some of the smaller moves the Jays need to do happen.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Why are steamer projections referenced so much? Seems like such a waste of everyone's time including his. I'll start off by saying I am completely ignorant on the matter, but I just don't see it. His predictions seem to just be extrapolations of a player's past performance with a slap of regression. Pretty much all the studs on the Jays roster regress according to his predictions...

Pretty much all the studs on the Jays roster regress according to his predictions... That is exactly all it is. Take a guys lifetime stats. Predict he will hit that next year. You will do very well. Everything else is diminishing returns. Take a guys lifetime stats. Weight the previous year more. You will do a bit better. Take a guys lifetime stats. Weigght previous year. Use age and park factors. Now you can compete with the great minds in baseball. Any fancier and the returns are miniscule. However you can give your system a fancy name, give yourself a semi-aggressive nerd personality. Sell yourself to suits. Profit. The first simple steps of a projection system are to predict. After that it is mostly to market yourself to idiot suits.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 steamer isn't a person It would have been cool if Steamer was an actual name. Like, Steamer Jones, or something.
